BlackHorse Golf Club - North Course
About
The environmentally friendly Blackhorse Golf Club in Cypress was designed by Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy, who teamed to build one of the best 36-hole, daily-fee facilities in Texas. Designed to maximize the natural setting, this beautiful complex is a perfect setting for golf with its huge variety of oaks, elms, and wetlands that provide habitat for a wide variety of bird species. Holes 4-6 on Blackhorse Golf Club's North Course generally get the best of high handicappers. Holes 4 and 5 route through massive trees and expansive wetlands, both playing over 400 yards. No. 6 is the North Course's signature: a 180-yarder that tees over the bend of the creek to an elevated green enhanced with railroad ties and framed by bunkers.

Good Course for the money
I enjoy playing Blackhorse North. Course is in great condition, sand traps are in great shape ( I should know because I was in most of them). Staff People are very friendly.
Great Service, needs maintenance
I'm a member. Due to heavy play and rain throughout the Spring and early Winter, the greens, fairways, and bunkers are not in the best shape. Its like playing in a mud pit at times. The greens are pimpled with ball marks. Where the bunkers are better than they were in the Summer, overall they need more fresh, loose, sand (frequent rain makes this difficult to maintain).
My advise to the Head Greens Keeper is to fill in the low spots in the course and perform more frequent greens and bunker maintenance. Give the courses time to "heal" through Winter and Early Spring. Make the fairways plush again.
I know this sounds negative and is meant to be advice for improvement.
Another beautiful sunny day!
Other than boxes checked above; the side door (wooden) is in much need of a refinish!
Sunny afternoon of Golf!
We came in right after a tournament which can be problematic. But not today!
Pace of play, course conditions, friendliness of staff all good!
Good layout, average conditions
As an 'out of town' golfer, I enjoyed the layout of both the North and South courses but I found the conditions to be very average. Greens were fast and rolled true but many of the fairways/tee boxes were a bit scraggly. Decent range but annoying that it closed precisely at 2pm. Signage from South to North could be better. The clubhouse is well stocked and the staff is very friendly. Food in the clubhouse was good as well. $99 seems to be kindof average for 'top end' courses in Houston and that's how I would describe Black Horse...average. Nice property but average.
Bumped
Got bumped from 1240 tee time to 1345 due to overrun of competition
Staff organized south course alternate round
But south is inferior
Slow
Jk
No Marshals play was slow at the turn we could see the group backing it up. Three holes open in front of them.
Overall nice course, but poor path and fairway signage
Nice staff, good amenities, clean facilities, and overall decent courses. However, for the north course the signage to hole 6 is really poor. How about some signs, don't cost much. Most of the courses tees are not marked very well either. Sand traps are often more salt pan or ponds than real traps. The real problem, however, is that the lay out for a lot of the fairways and holes is such that one has to guess where they are. There is often little to no visual difference between fairway or rough, no half way markings, and even the location of the greens are sometimes guesswork. If you go with carts or people moving, guess again, may be on a nearby parallel fairway. The score cards do show the fairway layout, but so small that the pics are more or less worthless. Also, carts do not have any GPS in them, so good luck guessing where you need to go. Ends up just being annoying.
Nice layout, less than desirable condition, poor starter and marshals.
Starter suggesting two players behind four players rather than pairing two player groups.. The course is full of four player groups.Marshals asking if four players ahead of us are on pace when a two player and one player group is complaining about waiting!
Pace of Play Very Slow
The Marshall’s do not seem to enforce a reasonable pace of play. Groups hitting 4-5 balls per player off the tee box and the Marshall finally appeared on the 18th hole.
Fran’s Round
Good day. Course a little dry. Greens in good shape.
No marshall
For the money you pay to play here you would think they would have a Marshall to enforce pace of play. Back nine was way to backed up. Also had a group of 4 join a group of 3. Making it a 7, and stood on the green. Another note is the loudness of the people in the patio at the restaurant, like on hold 9,16,17, and 18 you could literally hear them screaming, they were pretty sauced up from day drinking. Just think if you spend the money to play here you should be able to play without the loudness and slow play on the back. Course was fantastic but I won’t be back.
Very slow pace of play
They need Marshalls on the course to help move people along. On the last hole a 4some and 3some joined up to play in front of us. Seriously! Nice course but a bit over priced
