BlackHorse Golf Club - North Course
About
The environmentally friendly Blackhorse Golf Club in Cypress was designed by Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy, who teamed to build one of the best 36-hole, daily-fee facilities in Texas. Designed to maximize the natural setting, this beautiful complex is a perfect setting for golf with its huge variety of oaks, elms, and wetlands that provide habitat for a wide variety of bird species. Holes 4-6 on Blackhorse Golf Club's North Course generally get the best of high handicappers. Holes 4 and 5 route through massive trees and expansive wetlands, both playing over 400 yards. No. 6 is the North Course's signature: a 180-yarder that tees over the bend of the creek to an elevated green enhanced with railroad ties and framed by bunkers.

Blackhorse
have lived on this course for 12+ years and never played it. not sure what all the fuss is other than "status" but it's a good course and convenient to me. Staff was very friendly and helpful on the 16th although I will say that I went back on 4-18 late afternoon and the older gent in the pro shop was a total jerk, I almost left because of him. Greens are good, tee boxes are ok, the layout of holes in my opinion is awesome, cart paths are excellent. Overall a good course but really nothing to write home about nor is it worth paying more than $69 to play. I've played a couple of other courses that are just as nice if not better close by for $34 and well worth it.
Always tough
Good course with lots of deep and very soft bunkers. No Marshall though, which would have been nice to control some very rude jerks who yelled at us the minute they got on the tee box and then drove past us without asking permission. We were not playing slow but they had their agenda and made us feel uncomfortable.
Blackhorse Review
The greens were not in very good shape on the North Course. Directions to each hole were not clearly marked.... you had to do a lot of back tracking. Greens are hidden behind mogals and cart paths... not that I'm afraid to be challenged... but clearly couldn't get a sense of direction from the tee-box..... Especially on the second half of the "North" course. I'm thinking in Houston, as a general rule, golf courses are poorly designed and not well kept. This golf course was truly over priced even on Golf-Now.
The pro staff said the North Course was the better of the two courses.... I would hate to see the "South" Course. Pro-shop was extremely nice. Half-way house was a nice Set-up.
I have been playing golf for 40 years and find the Houston area has POORLY kept golf courses. Normally do not use Golf-now.... but glad I did.... would have been truly upset spending $80.00 for this Course... I still thought it was over priced at $59.00.
BlackHorse North
Nice layout; greens were in very good shape (faster than other public courses). In the 11:40 tee time, the other, single golfer did not show, so I was alone for the first five holes. The Starter should not never allow a lone golfer to play, knowing there was a foursome ahead and behind me. Luckily, I joined another single golfer and we played the remaining holes together, and enjoyed the experience of not being alone.
Eight bucks for a small bucket of range balls! Should have been no more than five bucks.
Except for the slow pace of play, the over-priced practice range balls, the course is worthy of your time. I will likely return to play the South course.
Greens
The greens were not in the best shape. They had weeds and were slow. Very surprising for this course and the cost. Fairways and tee boxes were in good shape. Sand traps were not maintained very well. This course is usually in better shape than I saw yesterday.
Great course, fished out 30 golf ball on 18 on. North side
Koudos on the course sup.
Played North course. Fairways are in great condition .Pace was too slow. Marshall needed badly to pick ip the pace.
Everything great I thought the small bucket of range balls for eight dollors was a little steep compared to other places
Ill be back
Course was in great condition for Feb-Mar. A really good round in all respects. Will be back
Course features were deep bunkers w/white sand
Played from the bunkers a lot. Course was challenging and interesting.
Fantastic course
Really enjoyed north course, front nine trees water bunkers, back nine open with bunkers and fairway slopes really enjoyed
Course in great shape
Greens are medium fast and very smooth. As good of greens as I have seen in quite some time. Fairways were great. Only drawback is driving range is chewed up - but that is always a challenge this time of year. CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK!!!
Rude staf in pro shop
I bought a round for me and my buddy the old guy in the pro shop tried to argue with me that I didn't buy 2 rounds. After I showed him email confirmation he still had the attitude of to bad so sad. He needs to understand I am the paying customer and I have proof of purchase. There was no reason for him to be a jerk. Will play here again but will advoid checking in with with this guy from now on.
Fantastic Course in the eyes of an East Coaster
Traveled to the Houston area for a wedding and after doing some research, decided to play here for my first taste of Texas golfing. I really enjoyed the differences in the grasses and course layout, immaculately maintained with fast greens and and thick rough. I did lose several balls in said rough including a ball that rolled off the back of one green so be warned.
I'm used to courses that have a lot more elevation changes but this course still has plenty of character and challenges of its own.
The staff was very attentive and gave me a great overview before the start of my round.
Excellent practice facilities as well and a top-notch clubhouse. This place isn't the cheapest but you certainly get your money's worth here. Would highly recommend to anyone local or just passing through.
