BlackHorse Golf Club - North Course
About
The environmentally friendly Blackhorse Golf Club in Cypress was designed by Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy, who teamed to build one of the best 36-hole, daily-fee facilities in Texas. Designed to maximize the natural setting, this beautiful complex is a perfect setting for golf with its huge variety of oaks, elms, and wetlands that provide habitat for a wide variety of bird species. Holes 4-6 on Blackhorse Golf Club's North Course generally get the best of high handicappers. Holes 4 and 5 route through massive trees and expansive wetlands, both playing over 400 yards. No. 6 is the North Course's signature: a 180-yarder that tees over the bend of the creek to an elevated green enhanced with railroad ties and framed by bunkers.

Best course on Northwest side of Houston
Course conditions were equivalent to a good private club. I played the south course, which required good tee shot placement. Course plays longer than it reads because par 5s are short, generally requiring layup second shots, and the fairways are soft, with little runout,
The course is a little pricey on weekends, but there's no other public access course on the northwest side that is well conditioned.
Black Horse North Course
Great course to play with a wide variety of challenges that changed hole to hole, from water to narrow fairways to a couple decent dog legs.
Thursday morning left plenty of space between tee times for our group, never ran up on another group, nor did we have others waiting on us.
Looking forward to our next round there.
Most Disrespectful Grounds-crew Ever
I want to preface this by saying that I have used GolfNow for several years now and never once felt the need to review a course after i played it. I would also like to say that Blackhorse is a great course on the surface that is well thought out and an excellent challenge from the back tees and forward. It should be an excellent experience. However, the reason for my first ever review (which I would have awarded 0 stars for if possible) is the shocking lack of respect my friend and I were shown by Blackhorse's ground crew.
From hole 8 to hole 15 there was only one shot during which we treated as if we even existed by their staff. The one instance I'm referring to was the 10th hole tee shot in front of the club-house. We waited for over 5 minutes on numerous tee boxes while their staff mowed down the middle of the fairways or worked in the bunkers well with in play while we stood and watched and waited for them to complete their work so we would not have to worry about hitting them. Once they finished and moved out of range we would then play our shot only to find the staff working on the greens and bunkers for our approach shot.
The two most disturbing acts of disrespect we were shown occurred on the 8th green and 13th green. On the 8th we were lining up to hit our putts when a mower came all the way to edge of the green to mow the rough around the bunkers as though we did not exist. After we watched in amazement for 2 minutes while he completed his mowing the mower in question excused himself to a very nearby try to relieve himself. He then immediately strolled to the water cooler that everyone uses to grab a drink at the 6th tee. After all this and a long ride between the 8th green and 9th tee, the very same mower I have cited this entire paragraph dropped his mower directly next to the 9th teebox and went the length of the 9th fairway right when we were free to hit our tee shot thanks to the lone gentleman mowing the course who ever noticed us on the 9th hole.
On top of this all on the 13th green I was blasted with sand by a member of the crew with a leaf blower working in the bunker while i attempted to line up and hit my putt while his SUPERVISOR watched unconcerned from the comfort of the shade.
I waited a day to write this to make sure I didn't write anything overly critical but something had to be said. It is the worst experience I have ever had on a golf course. I will not return to this golf course and certainly will not recommend it to anyone to play. I have never seen anything like this in my life.
Excellent condition
Fairways excellent and greens very true. Bunkers typical for Houston, when it's rained you think your playing off the cart path.
Solid
Course in good shape. Greens running a little slow. Rough very thick and very penal. Played in mid afternoon, as a twosome and finished in 3 and 1/2 hours. Nit picky, I know, but buy a few more rakes for the bunkers. Some very large bunkers would have one rake. That's probably why I was in a footprint in one of them.
Course is in great shape.
Keep your eye on the ball off if you hit it in the rough. The rough was deep (for Houston) and heavy, but very fair. Greens were great and we played under 4 hours. It was a great Sunday afternoon.
Wonderful time
Everything was perfect.......condition of course was perfect....pace was fast....weather was cooperating too... greens were aerated but were settling down.
overall 10
Blackhorse North Review
I played the North Course as a single. Very little traffic on the course . Course was in excellent shape overall. The greens were a little sandy and slow.
Like tournament conditions
I was pleasantly surprised at the condition of the course fairways sand traps and greens, it was like playing a country club and tournament conditions
Fantastic condition! Very fair with true greens!
Great course! Can't wait until our next visit to Houston!
Private club feel
This course is always in great condition, and has a private club feel to it. Green is perfect and you're spaced out so you never have to wait to play your shot. Why would anyone join a private club when there are public course this good and affordable?
West /cypress
Front nine was challenging and greens rolled well.
A great Saturday!
The North Course was in great condition. There was not one negative thing to say about this golf club. First class from start to finish! Thank you for a great round!
Great Condition
I played the north course. The front 9 is a great layout, the back 9 is
not as impressive. The holes are lined up alongside each other. The course is in great shape, fairways are nice and green and the greens are too.The bunkers are deep with soft sand in them. The day I played it was cart path only so that was the only downside. I got a great deal on Golfnow so I don't know if I would have paid full price with it being cart path only. It's one of the nicest
courses in Houston.
Jeckel & Hyde
We played the north course on Saturday afternoon. The front 9 is beautiful, fun layout with a different challenge on every hole. The back 9 is the exact opposite. No water, no trees, every hole looks the exact same with no fun. I enjoyed the round, but $60-80 dollars a round is extremely overpriced
Course in decent shape
The North course was in okay shape. The fairways and bunkers are great but the greens are average. Greens aren't as fast as they usually are and they're a little bumpy.
North Course
Course was in very good shape the greens were fast true and smooth I do recommend this course!
Great Course and great experience
Well work the extra few dollars, but a very good experience! Greens have spoiled me for the other public courses and the fairways are very well taken care of. Will return!
Nice
Enjoyed my round. Above average but not great. Mostly nice greens, very nice sand traps, and very good fairways. The course is rather straight fairly long. Pay attention to the signs on the cart path. You can get lost quick on the North course.
Could be much better
For $100 the course should be in much better condition. Lots of bald spots and weeds. Weeds in the greens. It is April and this course has a reputation that has been lost. This course should be pristine right now. But it appears they stop spending money on it.
