BlackHorse Golf Club - North Course
About
The environmentally friendly Blackhorse Golf Club in Cypress was designed by Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy, who teamed to build one of the best 36-hole, daily-fee facilities in Texas. Designed to maximize the natural setting, this beautiful complex is a perfect setting for golf with its huge variety of oaks, elms, and wetlands that provide habitat for a wide variety of bird species. Holes 4-6 on Blackhorse Golf Club's North Course generally get the best of high handicappers. Holes 4 and 5 route through massive trees and expansive wetlands, both playing over 400 yards. No. 6 is the North Course's signature: a 180-yarder that tees over the bend of the creek to an elevated green enhanced with railroad ties and framed by bunkers.

This course has fantastic greens
The greens on the course are challenging and in great shape
Excellent Course
Greens Rolling Perfect around this season.. Pace of play was good..
One of the Best Public Courses in Houston
Fun course to play and always in great condition. Only negative was that there was a tournament on the course which made for a 5 hour round and had to finish the last hole in darkness.
Blackhorse Rd 2
The North course is more beautiful, but the South has it own unique holes. Always relaxing when golfing around the Blackhorse Area in Cypress, TX
Very good course
Blackhorse North - excellent, challenging layout. Course condition was very good. Pace of play was a bit slow - Marshall spoke to the laggard group on ~ hole 14 and things sped up considerably - but there should have been more monitoring on pace of play earlier. However, we did complete the round in ~ 4 hrs 20 minutes on a Sunday morning, so not horrible. Overall, one of the best courses in the Houston area that is open to the public. Although a bit pricey, I would strongly recommend this course.
One of Houston's best daily fees
Together with the South Course, Blackhorse Golf Club is undoubtedly one of the best daily fee venues in the Houston area. Conditioning, interest, clubhouse, food -- they all rank well. Best of all, the two courses -- though done by the same design team from Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy -- are very different. Some players prefer one or the other, but I like them both, depending on my mood. The North Course has a really good stretch of holes on the front nine that works around a lake and creek; and a terrific finishing stretch, including a good risk-reward par 5 that finishes below the upper deck of the clubhouse.
Beautiful Golf Course
I always heard great things about Blackhorse and finally got the Luxury to play here. Beautiful area to relax, I can see why people think highly of this course now.
quick play but lots of mosquitoes
course was in very good condition - greens rolled fairly fast & true. I was paired up in a threesome - we got in 18 in ~3 hrs. Mosquitoes were a little thick at times - next time I'll be more prepared with bug spray.
Excellent value
Very good course and club. Strongly recommend playing.
Nice course!
Great course, nice folks, great parking and clubhouse.
Course was long and wide, nice grass, no issue with fairways...Grass was a little long in some places....but very nice and will go back many times! I loved it!
Great course
Wonderful fairways and tee boxes. The greens were quite slow but didn't seem to have been punched or sanded recently and the rain had eroded the sand in the bunkers but there is nothing they can do about it. Other than that the course has a great layout and is in great shape
great lay out, but
loved the course but where was the beer cart? did not see the beer cart at all the whole round.
Nice layout. Big,deep bunkers.
This is a very good course. Course was in good shape. We had a threesome & played in about 3/12 hrs. We got a great deal on Golf Now.com. $30 on a holiday weekend. I will play this course again.
Great Course
Great course and I always love playing it. I like the way its designed to where if you would like to challenge yourself you can take some risky shots that will bring you great rewards, but you can also play safe and still bring a decent game out of it. I've played several times and each time the course has ALWAYS been in GREAT shape. You never know what you're going to get with the staff though, there are times when I've gone and run into the most friendly and helpful people around and then there are times when I've run into to staff that have made me rethink about spending my money. (mostly at the clubhouse) Once out on the course the cart girls are ALWAYS friendly, helpful, accommodating and are around quite often but not annoying nor ever "in the way"..If they don't have something on their cart they will grab it from the clubhouse for you the next time they see you (which usually isn't too long)...Overall I would say if you get a chance, then you must get out to play this course, it is worth it
Solid Houston Course
The course was in great shape and was challenging with deep dense rough. For a mid single digit handicapper it was a good challenge however for a high teens handicapper it proved to be fairly difficult when fairways were missed.
Best course on Northwest side of Houston
Course conditions were equivalent to a good private club. I played the south course, which required good tee shot placement. Course plays longer than it reads because par 5s are short, generally requiring layup second shots, and the fairways are soft, with little runout,
The course is a little pricey on weekends, but there's no other public access course on the northwest side that is well conditioned.
Black Horse North Course
Great course to play with a wide variety of challenges that changed hole to hole, from water to narrow fairways to a couple decent dog legs.
Thursday morning left plenty of space between tee times for our group, never ran up on another group, nor did we have others waiting on us.
Looking forward to our next round there.
Most Disrespectful Grounds-crew Ever
I want to preface this by saying that I have used GolfNow for several years now and never once felt the need to review a course after i played it. I would also like to say that Blackhorse is a great course on the surface that is well thought out and an excellent challenge from the back tees and forward. It should be an excellent experience. However, the reason for my first ever review (which I would have awarded 0 stars for if possible) is the shocking lack of respect my friend and I were shown by Blackhorse's ground crew.
From hole 8 to hole 15 there was only one shot during which we treated as if we even existed by their staff. The one instance I'm referring to was the 10th hole tee shot in front of the club-house. We waited for over 5 minutes on numerous tee boxes while their staff mowed down the middle of the fairways or worked in the bunkers well with in play while we stood and watched and waited for them to complete their work so we would not have to worry about hitting them. Once they finished and moved out of range we would then play our shot only to find the staff working on the greens and bunkers for our approach shot.
The two most disturbing acts of disrespect we were shown occurred on the 8th green and 13th green. On the 8th we were lining up to hit our putts when a mower came all the way to edge of the green to mow the rough around the bunkers as though we did not exist. After we watched in amazement for 2 minutes while he completed his mowing the mower in question excused himself to a very nearby try to relieve himself. He then immediately strolled to the water cooler that everyone uses to grab a drink at the 6th tee. After all this and a long ride between the 8th green and 9th tee, the very same mower I have cited this entire paragraph dropped his mower directly next to the 9th teebox and went the length of the 9th fairway right when we were free to hit our tee shot thanks to the lone gentleman mowing the course who ever noticed us on the 9th hole.
On top of this all on the 13th green I was blasted with sand by a member of the crew with a leaf blower working in the bunker while i attempted to line up and hit my putt while his SUPERVISOR watched unconcerned from the comfort of the shade.
I waited a day to write this to make sure I didn't write anything overly critical but something had to be said. It is the worst experience I have ever had on a golf course. I will not return to this golf course and certainly will not recommend it to anyone to play. I have never seen anything like this in my life.
Excellent condition
Fairways excellent and greens very true. Bunkers typical for Houston, when it's rained you think your playing off the cart path.
