BlackHorse Golf Club - South Course
About
The South Course at BlackHorse is known for the sand quarry that was ingeniously worked into the layout by the design team. Particularly on the back side, the wetlands and sand features come into play prominently and create a totally unique setting for golf.
Getting there : Take Hwy. 290 west to the Spring Cypress exit. Go south (left) under Hwy. 290 to Old Hempstead Hwy. Turn right and drive .5 mile. Turn left on House & Hahl Rd. Then left on Mound Rd. and right on Fry Rd. The entrance is on the right.

Possibly an unfair review
I played this course a week or so after the worst winter storm in Houston history, so that’s why the title states it may be unfair. I heard a ton of great things about this place. The layout is nice but the conditions were less than desirable. The fairways and rough were mostly hard pan and didn’t make for great contact. That said, the greens were in pretty good condition and held lines and shots pretty well. Was not impressed overall, but I probably should give it another shot in a couple months before I write it off completely.
Very Nice course
well laid out and moderately challenging, definitely easier than its North brethren which is also a great course
The course was good. We found an issue with finding snacks throughout the course. We also noticed some of the water hazards full of plastic debris.
Some bare spots
COVID-19 guidelines being adhered to. Course in fair winter conditions. Bunch of bare spots on fairways. Greens running little slow. Cart girl came around once per 9. Since no water on course she’s a welcoming sight. Only got to 12 holes before my back locked up but 12 is better then 0.
Blackhorse South is in Good Shape
The south course along with its sister course is really green right now for late January, The course is in great shape from tee to green with the exception that the greens putted really slow in comparison to other local courses but they really held shots well. Had to fix divots on every green that I hit. Cart girl was visible at least 4 times during the round and the pace was excellent.
Christmas Eve round
The lady at check-in was wonderful and very informative & helpful for a 1st time visit. It was a tough day for golf with really cold weather & 20-25mph winds. Undeterred, I played the South course and found it to be challenging yet fair and really a lot of fun to play. The greens were fabulous, especially for the time of year. Can’t wait for a return visit once it’s a little warmer and less windy.
BlackHorse Firsttimer
Average to below average condition...greens nice, grass thin, tee boxes were poor with very little grass. Not as well conditioned as advertised. Golf Club of Houston much better for very comparable price.

Tough but good
Course was in excellent condition. Weather was great, we never had to wait to play a shot and the group behind us never had to wait for us. Some hard holes, challenging tee shots and tricky pin positions but a good day out.
Tough south course very fun!
Had a great time, great golf course, and super friendly staff
Needs refund of some form
We did not get to finish as thurderatorma rolled in and play had to be halted twice for lightning. We only played front nine

Perfect Weather
Couldn't pick up a better day for golf. Greens were the best part of the course...They are in great shape..Unfortunately and due to the Covid-19 the Bunkers were not raked in the morning. Everything else just fantastic.
Too many leaves
The south source is too hard toI find your ball when not in the fairway. The leaves were ridiculously everywhere and very difficult track.

Worth the Money
Played in super wet conditions and course was still a treat. South course does not drain well, buy the course conditions, greens, layout, and amenities make this one of the better public courses in the Houston metro area.
