BlackHorse Golf Club - South Course
About
The South Course at BlackHorse is known for the sand quarry that was ingeniously worked into the layout by the design team. Particularly on the back side, the wetlands and sand features come into play prominently and create a totally unique setting for golf.
Getting there : Take Hwy. 290 west to the Spring Cypress exit. Go south (left) under Hwy. 290 to Old Hempstead Hwy. Turn right and drive .5 mile. Turn left on House & Hahl Rd. Then left on Mound Rd. and right on Fry Rd. The entrance is on the right.

Horrible Greens
Not sure why Black Horse South is charging so much to play (Especially on weekend)....We found a great deal on Golnow to play in the heat of Texas and found the worst green conditions ever....Must of Holes were cart path only ....It was just like playing in bowling waters ...Not coming back during this summer
What Happened to BH South Course?
Fairways either burnt or completely saturated, greens rough and patchy, tee boxes overgrown, dont miss the fairway at all because they cut the rough and dont collect the clippings or blow the rough so your ball WILL be lost, bunkers are a disaster (weeds growing out of the bunkers on several holes), pace of play 4h 45min at 11am on a Sunday which isn't horrible, no marshall in sight and all this for a whopping $150. I understand you have had bad weather and a few tough breaks this year, DONT JUST PASS THE COST ON THE CUSTOMER WITHOUT A HEADS UP!!
Grass really needed to be cut. If ball didn't land in fairway, it was pretty much lost. Everything outside of fairway was tall and/or thick.
Poor condition and expensive
The greens, fairways and tee boxes were in poor shape. The grass and weeds were not mowed around the south course. I understand this course was closed due to flooding recently, but it shouldn’t have been opened to the public, especially at full price, in the condition it was in.
I paid over $500 for 4 of us to play. It was embarrassing, because 3 of the players were from out of town and they expected a top notch course.
Was Actually the North Course
Upon arrival for my scheduled tee time, I was informed that I would be playing the North Course instead of the South Course, which I originally booked. I understand this was due to flooding, although it was surprising that bookings were still being accepted for the South Course.
The North Course was in fair condition, considering the significant rain from the prior week. However, there were heavy mosquito presence, areas with standing water, and mostly unplayable bunkers. I have played both courses in the past, and they are usually in better shape. Given the circumstances, I was a bit disappointed, especially considering the price, and the fact that range balls were not included.
Need a guy to cut the grass?
Pristine weather on a Sunday morning... lost two balls in short grass; fairways looked the same as deep rough on other local courses. Actual missed fairways meant you were looking for your ball in inch-high grass. Just a miserable experience, can imagine why they're bleeding members
Rough Shape
Blackhorse South is one of my favorite courses in town and I'll certainly be back at some point. But the condition of the course was as bad as I've ever seen it. They certainly gets some leeway because there was a hurricane two weeks ago. So I understand some of the brush and downed trees. But the bunkers were shockingly bad. Some were full of debris and all of them looked like they hadn't been raked or maintained in quite a while. Even more surprising was the lack of mowing. I can understand the rough being grown out but I had multiple balls in the fairway that were absolutely buried. That seemed a little unfair. If it had not been a prepaid discounted round I would've been very unpleased. As it was, it was merely disappointing.
Very good course
Played the South course ,Overall course is in good condition , fairways and greens are good . Staff is friendly and pace of play was good . They charge 128 dollars and still do not include range balls . Similar course in Other states will charge around 70 dollars .
The Perfect Golf Club
This course is perfect to say the least and challenging. The pace of play was great. We finished 12 minutes under recommended time. The course conditions were immaculate. Hole 16 pulled my card this time, but I’ll give it another go next round.
Nice track and Facility South Course
First time. Course nice! Bunkers most terrible. Other than that staff great, greens good, fairways fair. Recommend.
Blackhorse south course is great, but overpriced unless you get a discounted round.
Great layout, well manicures but overpriced unless you use GolfNow.
Also the GPS controlled golf carts are a pain!
Gravel in Sand Traps
Course was great. Played in 3:30. But gravel mixed in with the sand in the bunkers is just unacceptable given the price of clubs. There was also a lot of maintenance going on around the course during prime playing time. I did grab a cheap rate, but this could have been so much better.
Gravel in the bunkers
Disappointed in the course of this level with gravel in the bunkers
Great Course
This course is in great shape. They're doing a lot of trimming of trees since tornados. Only negative thing I can say is in the heat of the summer they don't have a refreshment cart going around and there is only like three water coolers on course and in the afternoon the water is warm
Potential to be a 5
The course and pace was excellent for a Saturday afternoon round. Course super needs to address the areas around the greens and fairways. Most are in need of repair or more year round attention to detail. There shouldn’t be muddy weed areas and stay branches scattered throughout the course under trees. Will play again
