Hard Rock Golf Club Riviera Maya
About
The Hard Rock Golf Club Riviera Maya (formerly known as The Golf Club at Playacar) offers the perfect combination of natural beauty and the work of man. This magnificient golf course, carved out of the dense Mayan Jungle is only a few hundred yards away from the crystal-clear, turquoise ocean and the fine white sands of the Mexican Caribbean Sea.
The intelligent architectural design of the golf course has converted Playa del Carmen into one of the most popular tourism destinations in all of Mexico.

Nice Course but Very Tight
It took about 5 hours to play on a Monday at noon. The course is narrow and with the exception of the par 3's and a couple of par 4's you don't see the green from the tee box. So it is more about hitting to a spot and then hitting to the green. Greens are small but roll very well. It's a beautiful course and there is plenty of wildlife to catch your eye. For the most part, the people were all nice and the beer cart came around enough to keep us satisfied.
Want to play again
Great course. Pouring rain when arrived. Started after the rain and course was in better shape than should have been. Will definetly come back.
A few fairways were still recovering from all the rain they had. The overall conditions were still very good
I played with a good friend of mine and hooked up with another player from Canada. The three of us had a great time. There were a lot of laughs throughout the round. The all-inclusive fee provided us with all the food and beverages we wanted in the restaurant /bar and on the course. Will look forward to playing here again.
the course was nice However check if carts are path only, if so pass as it is hard to walk
The course was nice made sure you check if it is cart part only. It is very hard walk
Invitingly beautiful course
The course has been slowly drying out following the huge amount of rain in the area but other then the 90 degree rule it played well. Lots of wildlife and even 3 deer. Looking forward to getting to know the course better and dropping several shots.
Hard, fun, beautiful ... but bring your own clubs.
This was the hardest course i have ever played. The fairways were super tight and bunkers are everywhere, but if you like a challenging course it is a very fun course to play. The course could have been in better condition but it mostly had to do with a lot of rain and flooding a few days before, but the course is beautiful. The main complaint I have is that the rental clubs for this course are awful. The only option they have are some three year old Callaways that had dents in the heads of the woods, no hybrid club, no descent wedge (just the wedge that came with the irons), and they only had the big headed "super game improvement" model of iron. I can understand having these for rentals at your local municipal course but to not have more options at an expensive resort course is inexcusable, especially since the course is so difficult.
Great deal. Everything included.
The course was is good condition and a very nice course design and layout. Play was fast. The greens fees covered transportation to and from our resort to the golf course. We received complementary range balls and golf cart. Also included in the price was all your food and drink while you are there. Incredible. The food cart staff even took out order and brought us fresh cheeseburgers out on the course.
Very challenging course
Great very challenging course if you like playing target golf this one is for you not a grip-it-and-rip-it course! Bring some balls with you if the jungle doesn’t get them the water will the banks of the water hazards are sloped and will eat the balls up. The all inclusive part is nice also, Coors Light all day long!
JUNGLE!
Good course. Long and tight front 9 is a challenge. Back 9 shortens up but is still tight. Greens are small. All inclusive drinks and food is nice feature, but I had the course to myself and only saw the cart 3 times (with a tip each time).
Tough, but good value
PROS: $95 at 1:00 pm got you range balls, round of golf, food and drink on course, and in club house. Lovely club house, nice course. Very challenging as it is cut into the jungle, narrow fairways, lots of sand and water. Bring lots of balls. Stay at the Riu Yucatan or one of the resorts near it, and you can walk to course. Very safe area. Victor ran the drink cart. Great English and great service...You can use the range for $10 if you don't want to play.
CONS: Bad range balls. If you need to buy balls at clubhouse, (for round) they are $20 US cash for a dozen top flight x-out balls. Inside staff is a little snooty. Outside guys are good, but not a lot of English spoken. The course is re-doing the hole numbers, so that is a little confusing. Played, 10-17, then 9, 1-8, then 18...strange
A must Golf Resort
Stunning holes with risk reward in play. Narrow but fair with par 4's that looked short and easy can jump up and bite you.
One of the nicest courses I have played in from Canada to Mexico.
Great golf at Playcar
I had a great day of golf at Playcar. Booking though Golf Now was flawless I just had to make arrangments with the course for a pick up at my resort which was included in my green fee's.The course was in great shape fast greens it was tight but not suffocating the only complaint is the sand traps where a little inconsistent. My green fee was all inclusive which was ride to and from, drinks before during and after and food if you wanted. I would totally play here again and again next time in Playa Del Carmen
I would sum it up as okay. I will also play it again due to the convenience.
All aspects of the course are great except the greens need some attention. I have played here many times in the past and the course seemed to have declined slightly. For the high price of the green fees, I expect better. When I booked my tee time, I booked it for 1:00 - when I got to the course, they said "no can do", it would be 1:22. I showed the very polite young lady at the desk my documents confirming my 1:00 tee time but that didn't seem to matter - my tee time would be 1:22. Okay, so I think...... everything here is on Mexican time, I want to play golf, I like the course, so I just roll with it. As it turned out, the players I got paired up with also had 1:00 tee times but were told 2:17 was their newly assigned tee time. We all just laughed about it and decided we would just make the best of it. In the end, the starter got us off at 1:00, we finished before dark and had a great day on the links.
Nice course with good service
A nice course with a few challenging holes. Few people are playing the golf courses in Mexico so you can go at your own pace. Good finish on greens and fairways even though we had a bit of rain. Carts with rain cover for the bags was a great plus.
Unfortunately the courses in Playa del Carmen are all quite expensive and no one is playing... if the would lower the green fees they would have a more lively course.
This course is long and tight.
I booked this course on Golfnow.com and had no problems. Everything was great. We played 5 days at 1pm and got in all rounds before dark. The course is long and narrow with tight grass fairways and short second cut with mounds, then jungle. So if you hit your ball off target there is a good chance it will bounce into the jungle. Fun stuff. Wind also comes into play lots of time and can be differnt on each hole. Bunkers could use more sand but still ok. I would say this course is better than the average course and well kept with good staff.
Friendly staff and great value!
We booked on line with Golfnow.com and played this course for $100 each. My husband forgot his golf shoes and that was quickly remedied! Victor, on the beverage cart, was friendly and prompt - he got around to us at least 6 times with beer, water and sandwiches. After the game we went in for a drink, which was still covered by our wrist bands. A great deal for what we paid, and we loved the golf course!
Great condition, food and drinks included is fantastic
Golf course is in great shape. However it is very difficult. I am a 3 handicap golfer and shot a 79. For a resort course, fairways are very narrow and greens are very small. For an average golfer not recommended. Actually, I will never play this golf course again. But great value for the money new played at 1pm and included golf, cart, and all the food and drinks for 190$ us for 2 people.
Fantastic Mexican Golf Experience
Outstanding value for a challenging & picturesque course!
The price was all inclusive: transfer to/from resort, range, golf, food & drinks!
I would definitely play here again if given the opportunity. Very challenging especially being one of my first rounds for the year. Brought plenty of golf balls and like a previous reviewer mentioned, once its in the jungle, its gone!
I had seen the beverage cart numerous times throughout the round providing numerous cervasas and sandwiches.
Good Time!
I don't understand.....you said you thought it was a great deal and the course was well maintained. But because you shot a 79, as a 3 handicap, on a course you haven't played before, with an extremely difficult rating of 74.7 and a 142 slope, you're unhappy with your whole experience? What did you think you would shoot?!
You may deter people from playing a fantastic course who actually don't feel the need to post their score.....
To anonymous commentor and for clarication,
Yes it is a great value if you pay $95. It is not worth $200. yes golf course is pristine like every other golf courses in Cancun. Playacar is not my cup of tea. It is not fun to play the golf course. If we talk about another golf course, such as Riviera Cancun Golf club, this is worth the money to play and I will always come back to play here. It is fantastic and fun to play. All I was trying to do is let people know that it is not the best golf course in Cancun and I don't think you will be missing out on anything special. I don"t want other golfer to be disappointed like me. Just being honest cause I played some beautiful golf courses which were enjoyable and wanting to come back.
Did you read your own review, great condition, lunch and drinks included, $95 a person?! Yes the course is difficult but your review could stop some golfers from enjoying the best golf value in the Riviera Maya-Cancun location. I love the course and I'm a higher handicap then you.
