About
The Hard Rock Golf Club Riviera Maya (formerly known as The Golf Club at Playacar) offers the perfect combination of natural beauty and the work of man. This magnificient golf course, carved out of the dense Mayan Jungle is only a few hundred yards away from the crystal-clear, turquoise ocean and the fine white sands of the Mexican Caribbean Sea.
The intelligent architectural design of the golf course has converted Playa del Carmen into one of the most popular tourism destinations in all of Mexico.

Course will eat you up
Very hard for amateurs. Beautiful course however. If you are a precise hitter of the ball, I recommend it. If not, you will be losing balls left and right.
warm and windy but had a great time
I found a hot deal and got it for 48.00usd couldnt beat the price so i booked it. It was a very windy day but a nice warm afternoon. Teed off at 12:39 as a single and brought my wife to ride along was 35.00usd extra for her to ride but the great thing about it you tee times include drinks from the snack cart all you can eat n drink from bar and restaurant. This course was tough narrow fairways so if you cant control your shots bring extra balls. Greens are small and narrow at times.it can get very windy so will need to hit your longer clubs but some holes the yardage may be deceiving meaning i hit a 5 iron 230 no wind. ball may also travel further because of the warm weather. pace of play may get slow at times but was not bad.
Hard Rockin good time
We used www.golfnow.com to book the "hot deal" and it still included an "all inclusive" bracelet. We got food before our game, as much water and beer and snacks on the course as we wanted, drinks and a full meal in the restaurant after the game. I couldn't believe that ALL of that was included. I think we could have gotten a free shuttle to and from our resort also if we had booked with more time. I booked the hot deal within 45 minutes of our tee time, on a whim. The course was a bit dried out and out of shape and the greens were slow but who really cares when you're golfing in Mexico on vacation. Watch out for the Mexican raccoons, they will steal all your stuff throughout the course. Lots of cool iguanas to look at. Way too much water hazards for my liking so make sure you bring lots of balls. Our rental clubs were $50 USD each which is pretty good considering the cobras and callaways were in great shape. The pro shop is quite expensive so bring your glove and other accessories or pay a hefty fee. All in all we had a wonderful time
Nice track
Nice course with some difficulty depending on which tees you play. Whites are good for the shorter hitter and the blues are also good for a longer hitter.
The all inclusive is a nice touch, cart girl very nice and showed up every 4 holes with fresh ice and cocktails.
Nice course a little tricky playing for the first time and played a lot longer than the yardage on the card
Hard Rock - Rocks!
This was a great deal for Mexico golf. We did a package that included a round of golf, on course drinks, food and practice balls.
Vacation golf
This course did not meet my expectations, as the staff was not helpful or friendly. Took a long time to get checked in and a long time to get rental clubs and cart. They they just told me that I needed to go directly to hole #10, with no warm up and never have hit King Corral clubs. I play Taylor Made clubs and did not like the King Corral clubs. The course was not in very good shape as the greens look like they had just been top dressed with sand. The carts do not have GPS units and since they sent me out by myself I had no idea where to hit off the tee. I am a single digit handicap and have played much better courses around the world for less money. I suggest you play Riviera Maya Golf Club. Played there two days before and it is in excellent condition.
Rolls like tha name goes
prepared to be rocked and rolled, this course will give you some easy birdies and take you on a ride for some double or triple bogies if you let her...
staff will do everything to prepare you for the round and sounds to come...pure enjoyment
Regretted coming here
Upon arrival they tried to charge me $220 for the round and I pulled out my confirmation email that said $146.95, which didnt say about tax being included or not but giving them the benefit of the doubt, adding tax comes to $170. They told me it would be $220 about 10 times and they talked to the manager who again told me $220 (through text message with the staff) - YET THE CONFIRMATION EMAIL SAID $146.95, which i booked through the hard rock website. So after sending him the email and wasting 30 minutes they finally gave it to me at $170. I also pulled up the tee times for the day and they all said $146.95. The problem was that this place is not owned by Hard Rock so its some random company that runs the course, its not even near the actual resort. Also, i like to get logo balls at the courses I play at, which they had a sleeve for $18 (insane even for vacation prices), and single balls for $3, but the single balls were literally written on with a stencil and a permanent marker. The sleeve balls were actual logo balls and the singles were the course marking up range balls and selling them at $3 a pop. This place is a joke of a course management wise.
Conditions were okay, i was happy playing. The course was in reasonable condition, all the greens were nice. Starter and on-course staff were great, very friendly, no complaints there. Food was pretty bad and a very poor snack selection. Minimal beer selection on the course too.
After my round my pre-scheduled transport wasnt going to be there for THREE more hours (no clue how they think a round takes 6 hours in a cart with nobody on the course). Again, the front desk told me nobody could take me back to my hotel until my schedule time, in three hours, but she said i could pay for a taxi. So i said, "you guys want me sitting in your bar drinking free booze for three hours?" sure enough, a van was there in 5 minutes to take me back. These people are just scammers and have no concept of customer service. Even from the start they had poor attitudes, which is the first time I have experienced this in Mexico becasue EVERYONE wants your business and is extremely friendly.
So to sum up. Play somewhere else.
Not the best
Played 36 holes, in a hot and humid weather. Layout is quite challenging with lots of hazards and sharp doglegs. Tee ground and and greens were aerated and full of sand...in bad shape. Front desk staff were not friendly but others were. Wish carts had gps and ice boxes. First nine is short but back nine is much longer.
worth the money
course was in good condition. A few greens would need some treatment.
Played the course with golfnow for 95 $. Was one of the most interesting courses we played in this area. Rank it behind my favorite Iberostar el paraiso but before el camaleon.
No GPS, but all drinks at the course are included.
Stay on the fairway and have fun.
Small Greens
I played a few time now. This course get better every time I play it. Course layout is good, but very small greens and hard, needed to go in with high lofted clubs to stop.
Loved this course
The course is fun to play. Tight fairways with water and traps to test your skills ..All inclusive food and drinks are great . Conditions were good and got a great price on golf now
Good Value. Transportation Warning
I booked a 1:05pm tee time ($96US) at 10:00am on the same day after calling the course to confirm that transportation is indeed included as stated on golfnow.com because there is a note saying to contact the course 48 hrs ahead. Although it doesn't say transportation will not be included if you do not. I was in fact told yes transportation will be included and I would need to book online and then call back once the reservation was in the system to confirm transportation. I did as told and received my confirmation which did in fact state transportation included. However, once I called back the very same person now tried to tell me that transportation must be confirmed 24 or 48 hours ahead of your tee time, depending on which moment I asked her. After about 15 min of back and forth she offered to call the transportation person to see if they could pick me up. I was ready to cancel regardless because of the sour taste in my mouth after dealing with the rude and aggressive operator. I let her call anyway and she came back and said they would in fact include transportation. I do believe this was only because there happened to be 2 other golfers playing at the same course around the same time.
I must say this was a very frustrating procedure which began with me calling the course to clarify my question to avoid any problems prior to booking.
Once I arrived I was paired up with 2 other singles, we were rushed towards the first tee with no instructions only to be chased down in the first fairway to be told that it was cart path only. This made for a long day but in fairness it was pretty wet.
The golf course is fairly narrow with a lot of blind shots, dog legs and even a double dog leg par 5 which played close to 560 yds fro the white tees. Greens are very small and seem sparse but do roll true but speed can be inconsistent. The white tees do play close to 6300 yds with 2 sets of tees behind those and 1 in front, so there are lots of options.
Food and drinks are included, alcohol too, with a good selection of beer. We saw the cart girl at least 4 times to restock our cupholders. A meal is included as well but the kitchen closes at 5:30 which we didn't get to take advantage of.
I will play this course next time I'm back provided I can get it under $100 and book 48 hrs ahead to ensure a headache free transfer.
difficult but fair
I enjoyed the course but would advise to be selective about tees you play from.Lots of doglegs need to position ball for second shot because skme holes play long being at sea level. Looking foreward to next round
Challenging but fun.
While I certainly wouldn't pay the full sticker price of $180.00 to play the course I thought that the $90.00 "hot deal" on golfnow.Com was excellent value. That included range balls, all food and beverages plus cart. At the $90.00 rate that's a great deal.
Staff were very friendly and food in the clubhouse was excellent.
The course ranges from many short par 4's of 360 +/- to some big 440 yard par 4's which make long accurate driVing a must.
Would play it again for the all inclusive price but wouldn't want to go over $120.00 US as there's just not all that much memorable about the course itself.
New Logo, Same Great Course
Playacar or Hard Rock, this course is challenging and enjoyable. The fairways are narrow, and the greens not overly large, with lots of bunker protection. Not crowded so good pace of play.
Lots of wildlife including birds, iguanas, agoutis, coatimundis, and even a few deer.
Free shuttle to/from local resorts and all inclusive food and drink are really nice touches that make the course a good value. We'll be back!
