New golf carts
They are doing everything they can to improve this golf course.
Buying new golf carts, new generation and really smart, TOO smart and program was not ready for use.
Bad experience having to go in reverse through many holes, even when on the cart paths.
Went through 3 carts to see one world, we finally had enough and quit playing
Maybe we are trying to get to smart, similar to driverless cars
A Gem in the Desert
The course has improved dramatically since last year, great staff, challenging set up, greens are no longer like pudding, the fairways lush and the rough thick… really no drawbacks, clubhouse and restaurant- 5 Stars
Disappointed
Staff not welcoming, no education or instruction on course, any current issues. GBS system was a surprise and was terrible. Cart was stopped multiple times, once right on the concrete path. Had to go in reverse several yards every time.
Finally a real golf course
I didn't start playing golf until covid lockdowns. I have played every course in the city of El Paso, Tx. Sonoma Ranch is by far the best course I have ever played. Every employee was kind, considerate and knowledgeable about their facility. We will continue to come to play here!
I haven't played there in over 5 years and now I know why.
Sanoma
Staff was friendly, Course was amazing, and environment was spectacular
9 hole sand box
An absolute disaster - on the first tee, not on line or in the pro-shop, I learned that the back nine was closed and that the greens were severely sanded - read unplayable!
More sand on recently aereated greens than in the bunkers.
Leaving after 9 holes and stopped by the pro-shop to politely notice my disappointment and the young lady there just shock her shoulders.
The course was unplayable and should have been have been closed.
That neither GolfNow or the course gave me advance notice is a disgrace.
I called TeeOff to ask for my money back but, guess what, theg went home at 5PM EST, just after 3 PM in Las Cruces, NM!
Besides that, the overall course conditions were significantly better a year ago; most rundown municipal courses are in better condition than this place.
Overall very unfortunate, because it is an interesting layout!!
New owners or management is obviously needed!
Having reached mature age and played a lot of golf all over America and the world, this us fr we most ticked off I gave ever been and I have never left any comments if this nature, but this experience deserve it!!!
Great course to play working on conditions
Much better than some recent reviews indicate. New owners putting in a lot of effort to restore conditions.
Tee boxes mostly acceptable, some a little threadbare. Fairways generally playable w/ a few bad spots and sprinkler leaks. Bunkers iffy, but standard for the area. Greens excellent condition.
Take recent negative reviews w/ skepticism. Well worth playing and a bargain at $40.
I question the layout somewhat. Some easier short holes to begin w/ then, particularly on the back nine some real brutes.
New management hasn’t figured it out yet
This course use to be very friendly and accommodating to everyone that came in. It’s gone under new management a few months ago and has since gone down hill. I use to play in a golf league at this course for multiple years, but the course condition and faculty changes have made me uninterested in even hitting on the range. I know I’m not the only one in the area that feels the new employees are trying to drive away to old regulars for new customers. It’s unfortunate to say the least. This course use to be one I would brag about, but except for a few months out of the whole year, it’s not worth the hot deals they offer on this app.
Skip if you can.
Course is in bad shape, muddy, dead grass, and dirt. Carts are old and slow. Can’t practice before the round given that the range had only 3 mats and someone from the pro shop had the audacity to tell me “no hitting from the grass” and to use the mats even though there weren’t any. Won’t be returning.
Review
Surprised charge was still what it was considering course conditions. Disclosed cart path only but fairways were a disaster most holes. Will be awhile before going back.
Unfortunate.
Unfortunately the previous owners let the course really decline before it was taken by new owners. I realize the condition is not the fault of the present owners and they are working to improve it, but for the time being it is not a good course to play as it was wet and muddy yesterday and cart path only due to seeding, I understand that. On the back nice we had to wait and work around sprinklers that came on, I am sure they had to do this for seeding. It is unfortunate at this time. and hopefully temporary,
Course is too wet and muddy.
Not sure what management is doing, but the course is way too wet and muddy. Charging full price for a round with a course under its current conditions is ridiculous. The sprinklers even came out while we were playing and we had to play around them. Pin placement on the greens is terrible as well. I won't be going back until they fix this course's issues.
Terrible Experience
Do yourself a favor and don’t book a tee time at this golf course. For starters, they don’t make it clear it was cart path only when you book the tee time. The Fairways are in terrible shape. The grass is so thick your ball gets lost on the fairway. The sprinklers are programmed to water throughout the day, so expect to get showered as you tee off, hitting your second shot, or trying to putt. The worst part is that when I turned around midway through the first hole and asked for my money back, they wouldn’t do it. Worst experience I’ve had in years.
