The Golf Club at Dove Mountain - Wild Burro/Saguaro
About
Nestled in the desert foothills of the Tortolita Mountain Range, the 27 holes at The Golf Club at Dove Mountain feature dramatic elevation changes and stunning views. The three nines were all designed by Jack Nicklaus and are played in three different 18-hole combinations. The Wild Burro/Saguaro golf course combines Nicklaus' favorite nine, Wild Burro, with the front nine of the Accenture Match Play Championship. The golf course features intricately contoured greens and carefully placed fairway bunkers. The course plays through canyons and desert washes covered in centuries-old Saguaro cacti. The third, fourth and fifth holes on the Wild Burro nine are notably challenging with the third featuring an "island green" standing amidst sand and cacti.

#3 on Saguaro Photo submitted by timstaley on 10/25/2012
Great Except for Bees on Saguaro course
I've played this course numerous times and enjoy it but recently have found bees near the greens on hole 5 and all around the tee area (numerous drains) and greens on hole 6, (again, drains, but they also like the flag hole) which caused me to skip it even for chipping up. Again, this was not a one time occurrence. Please make play safe for golfers, but be kind to the bees!
Lovely course with friendly starters.
Hot Slow Day
The course had heavy use today and play was pretty slow. Two out of our group stopped after 9 holes due to hot weather and pace of play. We only got to play the Wild Burro course twice as they were over seeding one course and the other was so backed up it wasn't funny. I would love to come back and try my luck again hoping for a better experience.
Fall Golf at Dove Mountain
Beautiful course. Very challenging. Generally good condition. Bunkers are ungroomed and very hard packed. Greens are excellent. For some reason 2nd 9 was cart path only. A much better idea would have been to reverse the 9s so the walking would have been in the cool of the morning instead of 100 degree mid-day. The course is up and down the Mountain so it was very strenuous. Not recommended for those not in good shape.
Poor course conditions.
Imagine ordering a kobe steak from a nice restaurant just for the chef not to care, burn it and add too much salt. That was my experience. Disappointing course conditions for the money. Bare spots all over and spongy, inconsistent greens, even cart gps had the wrong pin placements. Seems like they are just waiting for overseeding to cater to the winter crowds, if there are any. SMH. I'll be happy to return to the Phx muni courses again where they actually care for their courses year around. I'd rather play at Encanto.
The Golf Club at Dove Mountain
Excellent course. Great course layout. Friendly staff.
Courses in very poor condition
I have played these courses in back years, when they were beautiful, unfortunately that is not the current case. Fortunately bought summer deal rounds at $38, would not go back even at that price. Maybe the lack of rain this year has created some of the problem, but in general, poorly groomed, and shabby looking. Hopefully after over seeding takes place, perhaps by November conditions will improve.
Maybe when over seeded it will be better in the winter months. I have played these courses a few times in the past and have never seen it so run down and shabby. Not worth more then the $38 summer specials!!
Parched
Proof positive we need rain in Tucson. I have played the course 6-8 times over the last 5 years. Never seen it this dry. Not even close.
I really hope we get some rain so they can green it up before they loose some of the fairways.
That said, it’s a beautiful track.
Excellent Track - one of the best in Arizona
Overall in great condition but greens a bit longer than expected so putts a bit slow. Shot a 79, fair track.
Holding up through summer.
It’s been a dry hot summer yet the course is holding up pretty well. Now coming to reseeding time so improvements may be on hold till rye grass is growing. One nine, Saguaro, already being readied.
Bunkers have sand, don’t get raked as much as to my liking (daily?) Greens soft, and slower than normal, but most likely due to summer needs. They roll smooth and are consistent. Just take a bit of getting used to, winter should see them tighten up and gain speed.
Overall, layout remains interesting and will always provide golfers adequate challenge.
Not worth the Mobey
For tge money we expected good fairways, however too many bare spots. Too many other courses in Tucson in better shape for less money.
Avoid!
I’m not one to write reviews but I would save your money and play elsewhere. I was really looking forward to this course on my golf trip. However, for a course of this “caliber” at the Ritz Carlton I would expect fairways to be green...not brown and looking like a pasture. Many fringes around the green are just dirt and weeds. The few bunkers I played out of were awful and baked - however it’s my fault for hitting into them, then deciding to play out of it as it was clearly like hitting out of concrete. I’ve played 12 courses on my trip and this was easily this worse shape/condition course I’ve played. Not a well maintained course at all...there really is no excuse. Disappointing and have already recommended people not to play. Time to step it up! The course has potential but not run well.
