The Golf Club at Dove Mountain - Wild Burro/Saguaro
About
Nestled in the desert foothills of the Tortolita Mountain Range, the 27 holes at The Golf Club at Dove Mountain feature dramatic elevation changes and stunning views. The three nines were all designed by Jack Nicklaus and are played in three different 18-hole combinations. The Wild Burro/Saguaro golf course combines Nicklaus' favorite nine, Wild Burro, with the front nine of the Accenture Match Play Championship. The golf course features intricately contoured greens and carefully placed fairway bunkers. The course plays through canyons and desert washes covered in centuries-old Saguaro cacti. The third, fourth and fifth holes on the Wild Burro nine are notably challenging with the third featuring an "island green" standing amidst sand and cacti.

#3 on Saguaro Photo submitted by timstaley on 10/25/2012
Need Multiple Rounds
I remember the Match Play a while back being played here so decided I would play it as part of my recent trip to Tucson (my first visit to the area). I played Saguaro/Wild Burro and really enjoyed the layout. My problem came with the difficulty of the green complexes. If you did not leave your ball in the correct location, you were in for a world of trouble, whether it was very difficult chips or tough putts up and down hills in the green. Course was in excellent shape, but definitely need 4-5 rounds at the course in order to really play it well.
This course has well planned bunkers
The course plays long with many carry overs. The bunkers are well planned, rolling fairways and greens.
Inspirational
My husband and I had the good fortune to essentially have this gorgeous golf course to ourselves on a sunny January day. The conditions were outstanding. We were able to take our time and enjoy this challenging layout and the wildlife. We found Dove Mountain to be quite inspirational!
Premium Golf Facility- Greens Brutally Difficult
Played as a single, and was rewarded by the starter with a clear path on Saguaro to start. No one in front of me and I flew around, which he said I would. I'm an 8 handicap, generally, and found the tee to green layout interesting and fair. Tees were green and well tended, fairways well kept, as well. Cart was loaded with water and a working gps system that was accurate. Greens on Saguaro were in good shape but insanely difficult. Pins were tucked tight on most holes. Breathing on the ball sent it flying ten feet past the hole because of the slopes. Reviews from the PGA Match Play events from a few years ago quote pros saying the greens were tricky and bordering on unfair. I would agree. I like fast greens. These were fast and undulated beyond a reasonable level. Impossible to stop some putts near the hole regardless of touch. But I wasn't playing to score, so it didn't impact my enjoyment. Back nine, played Burro, again with no one in front. Greens were very, very sandy, and played more difficult than Saguaro. But all that said, I had a fantastic time and enjoyed the lush course conditions and the views. Finished in 2:50 and didn't really push it. Practice facility was top notch. Multiple targets, signage and a huge bin of premium practice balls. I would play again, difficulty of greens notwithstanding.
great conditions
Nice conditions as always
Fast greens
2 some played in 3hrs 20mins
got out early
First Impressions
After reading many comments about this course I finally had the opportunity to play it. The course is quite long, I played from the Yellow Tees and it measure almost 6,400 yds. Adding a stiff breeze which seemed to be on over the 50T of the holes against it made the first visit quite a challenge. However the course and the greens were in excellent condition and I will certainly return in the future, since I now have a better idea of how to play the course. Many of the holes require some knowledge on the proper way to attack them.
Challenging awesome and beautiful
This place makes me happy! The conditions are always perfect, the greens are super smooth and firm but not way to fast, I golf all over on expensive courses and this place rates at the top in every category
Love love this place
I just Love this place. The golf staff are awesome and so friendly. The course is so beautiful with the desert outlay & many saguaro cactus!! I have To play everytime I’m in town!!
Extremely nice
Played terrible and didn’t Care. This course is gorgeous. Most comfortable seats in a golf cart ever and the weather and views were perfect.
Dove Mtn Dog
Course and Staff were way ‘beloiw par’. Which usually would be a good thing. Rude ‘golf pro’ at checkin seemed to be upset that we had used a Golf Now discounted rate. Why should he care?
Then the course was choked up with elderly couples. We waited 15 minutes on most tee boxes! Add to that no refreshment cart and you wonder- what happend to Dove Mtn?
Overpriced and Understaffed! Play elsewhere.
Arrogant Staff
If you want to be treated like a free loader, and NON MEMBER, this is the course for you!
The asst golf pro Matt insisted i buy overpriced slacks rather than allow me to play in new blue jeans. I hadnt seen any dress code during the booking process.
My plea for an exception fell on DEAF ears.
The course parking lot was EMPTY. It was a Wednesday.. And he wasnt botherred in the least that nothing in the golf shop would fit me. He didnt care one bit. Very dismissive. Even annoyed.
He wont be working there this summer. And the lot will be even emptier with this kind of ‘welcome’.
Good target golf
Course is good with many bunkers. There is a lot of constructions within the course area making it a bit unpleasant. Great desert vistas.
VRS good course
I wished I could play Tortolita / Saguaro ...!
Unfortunately the Saguaro was occupied by members so I had to play Wild Burro which is not so good as the other ones ...! I came here to play Tortolita / Saguaro ...!!
But overall I was satisfied with the 18 holes I played.
Hopefully at my next visit it will work ...!!??
Dove Mt
Course conditions very good, setting & views are wonderful, course plays long for average hitters
Outstanding staff
Great conditions
Greens were a little beat up though
Overall a perfect day
