The Golf Club at Dove Mountain - Wild Burro/Saguaro
About
Nestled in the desert foothills of the Tortolita Mountain Range, the 27 holes at The Golf Club at Dove Mountain feature dramatic elevation changes and stunning views. The three nines were all designed by Jack Nicklaus and are played in three different 18-hole combinations. The Wild Burro/Saguaro golf course combines Nicklaus' favorite nine, Wild Burro, with the front nine of the Accenture Match Play Championship. The golf course features intricately contoured greens and carefully placed fairway bunkers. The course plays through canyons and desert washes covered in centuries-old Saguaro cacti. The third, fourth and fifth holes on the Wild Burro nine are notably challenging with the third featuring an "island green" standing amidst sand and cacti.

#3 on Saguaro Photo submitted by timstaley on 10/25/2012
venues are beautifull.
greeted quickly by bag staff. had to wait at the front counter while the desk staff worked on some computer booking issue. finally told us we were prepaid and go out. I had to come back in to see if we had a single joining us, they said we did but he was early and probably already gone. no starter o tell us to go and the group in front of us were quite slow and a marshal would have been a good thing to have monitoring . when we went to the back nine, a very slow twosome had gone in front of us even though wenhadn't stopped at the turn. no bag staff around when we finished. carried out bags out. not happy.
Always an enjoyable challenge
I always enjoy playing where the pros played during the Accenture Match play. Of course there are many tees from which to choose as to match the challenge you wish to take on. The course is in great shape, and not too difficult even if it is Cart Path Only on one of the Nines. The practice balls are always a great warm up, and the GPS matches my Garmin. Just stay out of the desert and yo will be fine. Even the bunkers are fun to play from.
Always fun to play
The greens can be crazy and you have to make good approach shots but even just after overseeing, this still played well. Greens were true but a little slow. But you have to love the tee deck combo offering to set most players up for the right experience.
Perfection
What a jem, fairways and greens perfect, greens very fast and firm, beauty all around, please play this course!
Very good for $70 - greens are challenging due to contour and ongulation
Best condition course in Tucson !! Super friendly staff, good range and amazing course conditions with great views!
Beware of overseeding conditions
If you go in October and can’t drive on the fairways, I’d skip this course as we had to walk way too much from the cart to the ball. I’d rather have just walked the course with the amount of extra steps needed to go for the path to the cart and then back again. So many holes didn’t have direct access to the fairway so you have to walk forward and backwards to the cart with each swing. Made the round longer and tiresome after 18 holes. The beauty of the course is spectacular- I’d love to play again when I can drive on the fairways.
Good, Not Great
Greens and fairways excellent. Couple of green side bunkers in need of sand. Patchy turf around some greens. Skeleton staff and halfway house closed at 1:30. Could have used a ranger to push foursome in front of us, luckily there let us play through at turn.
Challenging course not for everyone
Beautiful layout with a mixture of different challenges on each hole. Can be difficult even from forward tees.
Disappointing experience
While the course is outstanding the greens were terrible. Rolling as slow as possible. Really ruined what could have been a good experience. Also the range was closed and the starter rushed us past the practice green to the first tee box. My hunch is the practice green didn’t simulate the real greens at all. Had a great GN rate which specifically stated unlimited practice balls. During the overseeding season lots of courses had the range closed. We chose this course due to the range being open and GN stating it was open. Very disappointed to learn that wasn’t the case. At 59, it’s important for me to get a few swings in to loosen up prior to heading to the first tee. Without that ability to loosen my back, etc...that carries thru the whole day. The golf course is beautiful, the overall experience was disappointing
wonderful views
with the beautiful views, hard to keep your mind on the shot at hand. course is difficult (it did host PGA events), but using proper tees, can be played by average golfer. Wild Burro was just reseeded, and we had no other golfers on that 9 with us! was amazing; pristine course. but, cart-path only made for good exercise.
The driving range was closed. One course was cart path only. They got us out early but we stacked to close with other groups.
Cart path only
It would have been nice to know one of the 9s was cart path only before I made the reservation. Since it’s such a pain to cancel a reservation with u guys we went ahead and played. They let us play the front 9 twice to avoid the cart path only. I actually was 6 strokes better the second time thru. This course is tuff on us old guys as the hole course is a hilly mountain course and the cart paths are not close to the greens and are often either up or down which means u have climb hills at least one way at altitude. I’m 70 and the rest of the guys are older.
Superior
Excellent experience in a phenomenal setting. First class course, facility and staff enhances every aspect of an avid golfer’s expectations.
Great challenge
If you cant work the ball. Leave the driver in the bag. This is a shot makers golf course. A great exercise in discipline. You really need to know your yardages and be brave enough to exercise some restraint. Great mental exercise!
Nice that the give 2 bottles of water on the course, but water bottles or jugs would be better. Very clean, nice layout.
Good public course
Greens have issues - bare spots
Fairways are dry. Pace was pretty slow
Cart lady was not very friendly. This course should be better than that!
Awesome golf experience
This place has it all. Singular golf experience in the most Unique desert setting.
Desert course Played from the Copper tees
Good tough course. Considering the heat and actual air temp, course was in great shape. Yes, there were a couple of areas that had been burnt up by the sun, but minimal. Did not affect the play. Shot an 87.
Dove Mtn
Golf course & greens in excellent condition for the heat conditions. Best course played behind WeKoPa (Saguaro) & Grayhawk (Talon). Pro shop staff very personable & engagingl. Definitely on my return to play list!!
