Whitestone Golf Course
About
Long and susceptible to the wind, White Stone Golf Club rolls through an impressive Hill Country-like setting with huge oak trees, lots of rocks, and loads of native oaks, cacti, yucca, and wildflowers.
Bunkers are everywhere on this 7,100-yard Jeff Brauer design, and water comes into play on about seven holes. The key to scoring well is keeping the ball below the hole, avoiding nasty downhill putts on the extremely fast greens. White Stone's par 5s are tough, and average golfers should probably play them conservatively and be happy just getting there in three, since three out of four are fronted by hazards and require carries.
On the front nine, no. 1 tests you early -- it’s a 555-yarder with a creek that crosses the fairway and forces a layup on the second shot. No. 9 is nice as well, a 360-yarder that should be played with a short iron to lay up in front of the creek. This hole features a nice dip in the center of the green that requires knowing the correct pin placement.
White Stone Golf Club's back starts strong like the front, opening with a 580-yard par 5 with a sloping fairway that is cut by the creek on two occasions. No. 11 is the best par 3 on the golf course -- a 200-yarder that plays dow hill over a creek and into a creek surrounded by bunkers.

Issues with course
On a par 3 we park just off the cart path because th breaks on the cart didn’t work. The Marshall was a complete jerk over this. We had two wells on the grass to stop the cart from rolling off. The tee boxes trash and the bunkers were the worst i have ever seen totally unplayable mostly rocks. The entire course has gone down hill but don’t park on the side if the cart path cause that’s a problem. Don’t waste money here until the get better staff carts and fix the bunkers and tee boxes
Was great except for the rain
Great day just ,the
Weather wasn’t working for us
Disappointed
I have been coming to Whitestone on and off for the past few years and this is sadly the worst I have seen the conditions here.
Nearly all of the teeboxes are fine and the greens were in generally great shape as usual but everything in between the tee and green was not up to par with what I’ve grown to love about this course. The fairways and rough had a significant number of areas with no grass and in some cases areas where the grass had been dug up and sectioned off with construction tarp as I’m guessing they are replacing that areas grass. In some spots in the fairway and just off the lies we’re unplayable and it was 20-30 feet to the nearest point where conditions were okay.
The bunkers were atrocious and nearly unplayable, lots of washout and inconsistent amounts of dirt at the bottom.
This is not how the course has played over the past few years and it seems that there was some trouble coming out of winter but at this point in the season I expected much better. Disappointing for a $60 round.
Tough course for high hanicap
The course is beautiful and maintained immaculate. Lots of bunkers and wind the day we played. The greens are all super fast but the scenery is wonderful.
Poor course management
The course is money hungry with very poor course conditions. They stacked 8 min tee times all day to grab money instead of caring about pace of play or golfer experience. There were several holes that took over 30 minutes to play. Several of which had 5 groups on one hole. 1 on the green. 1 in the fairway. 3 groups waiting at the tee to hit. Unbelievably horrid course management. Multiple holes were under construction with black tapping blocking off fairways. Yes. The middle of the fairway. With zero warning that it was going on. Rounds like that should honestly cost around $10 because you get zero value out of your round. The course didn’t look look like it had been watered in 6 months either. Fairways were basically rough. Not cut or groomed at all. Just terrible experience all around. The course used to be gorgeous and one of the best around. Now it’s basically a weekend duffer 30+ handicap golfer on course where good golfers suffer
Slowwwwww
Took over 5.5 hours to play. Tee time at 1126 was pushed back 1/2 hour and it didn’t get any better. Need more marshalls on course to prevent that. Only reason everything isn’t 5 stars is bc of this. I didn’t pay what I paid to play a 5.5 hour round
Better and better
Great customer service. Course continues to get better. Greens are firm and fast just the way a real golfer likes them.
Way…….too……slow
11:26 tee time, went off around 1155. 2:55 to play front nine, finished around 5:20. Didn’t see a Marshall until 14th tee. He gave a lame excuse that a “big group went off this morning and took 5.5 hours instead of 4-4.5 hours, & it slowed down the whole day”…so where the F was he in the morning to speed them along?Course was in great shape compared to others I played , and I will definitely go back. They include range balls & a cleaning towel & tees with your green fee, which is great. Just get better at keeping people moving so we aren’t at the course for 6-7 hours
The problems continue...
After a 40 minute drive to the course, we arrived at 2:20 p.m. to find a full parking lot and golf bags waiting everywhere. Went to check in for our 3:18 tee time and was told that we were delayed by an hour due to a tournament that had gone off that morning and was ALLOWED to take 6 hours to finish. We tried to call other nearby courses to see if we could get on somewhere else, but no luck.... So we waited. Finally, at around 4:35 p.m., we got carts and were able to start our round. Things were going well until we made it to hole 7 and found 4 foursomes waiting at the tee box - another delay. This one took 30 minutes to clear up... As we waited, we looked over to the 9th green and saw a group of 9 on the green - literally running and screaming around the green.... we had found the cause of our 30 minute wait at 7.... Long story short, we did not get to finish our round.
The greenskeepers at Whitestone are not the problem. Coming out of winter, the course looked very cleaned up. The fairways and bunkers still need some love, but the greens were rolling fast. Conditions are up to par.
What plagues Whitestone is the way it is being run (or lack thereof). Every tee time we've booked at Whitestone has had some kind of problem. From delays, to no carts, to no range balls, pace of play issues - you name it, we've experienced it here every time.
It's a shame that a course with so much potential has these type of problems. For now, we will be removing this course from our regular play rotation list. Hopefully the issues get resolved and we can add it back in the future.
Golf carts and pace of play
They somehow lost keys to the golf carts. Our tee time was pushed back 45 min while we waited on a cart. Following that, the holes were so packed it took us and the group ahead 6 hours to finish the round.
Waste..cow pasture with lots of cows
First off, I should have known the pace of play was going to be a nightmare when there was 4 groups deep stacked up on the first hole. Finally teed off 20 minutes behind schedule to just sit around hole after hole wasting away a Saturday. After 3.5 hours we finally finished the 9th hole. We had an enough and decided to leave.
Course conditions- greens were fast, best part of the course. The fairways and tee boxes were hard packed dirt.. where is the grass? The layout was less than par with nothing too challenging.
With that said, I would never go back. Spend your money on a course that values the product they are selling and the pace of play. Whitestone clearly does not.
Superfast greens
Played this course many times throughout many years. The new ownership has done a lot of good maintenance and improvements. On this particular visit everything was very good except the starter was rude. The inside staff was great.
