Whitestone Golf Course
About
Long and susceptible to the wind, White Stone Golf Club rolls through an impressive Hill Country-like setting with huge oak trees, lots of rocks, and loads of native oaks, cacti, yucca, and wildflowers.
Bunkers are everywhere on this 7,100-yard Jeff Brauer design, and water comes into play on about seven holes. The key to scoring well is keeping the ball below the hole, avoiding nasty downhill putts on the extremely fast greens. White Stone's par 5s are tough, and average golfers should probably play them conservatively and be happy just getting there in three, since three out of four are fronted by hazards and require carries.
On the front nine, no. 1 tests you early -- it’s a 555-yarder with a creek that crosses the fairway and forces a layup on the second shot. No. 9 is nice as well, a 360-yarder that should be played with a short iron to lay up in front of the creek. This hole features a nice dip in the center of the green that requires knowing the correct pin placement.
White Stone Golf Club's back starts strong like the front, opening with a 580-yard par 5 with a sloping fairway that is cut by the creek on two occasions. No. 11 is the best par 3 on the golf course -- a 200-yarder that plays dow hill over a creek and into a creek surrounded by bunkers.

Decent Course
The course was overall in decent shape. There were 2 greens that were pretty rough, but most of them were pretty true. We had a golf cart run out of gas on Hole 7, which caused a bit of a log jam with other groups having to play through while waiting for a new cart. The young guy that brought the cart had no personality, no apology, and barely said a word. I would say the service industry is not the place for him. The remainder of the round was pretty slow due to this delay. I played White Stone a few years back and it was in much better shape then, but that happens to courses. If you are looking for a decent course to play at a good price, then I would recommend this course. If you are a scratch golfer or better than a 15 handicap, I would go elsewhere.
Good fairways and greens
Everything was very good except the bunkers of course
Course Neglected
The course has a great layout but has been neglected. Trash in carts, weeds around greens, bunkers unplayable, greens infested with ants. So sad because this has such great potential.
Enjoyable round
First, the bad: the sand traps are awful. But if you’re willing to trade that in for great fairways and greens and some chalkenging par 5s, look no further than Whitestone. Super value, too.
really good course
This is a great golf course for the money. Great views, challenging enough, and is enjoyable. If you're a regular guy/gal and enjoy the sport will not be disappointed. However, If you believe you should be on the Tour, this one is not for you.
Summary:
* Great value
* Relaxing views
* Nice staff
* Good pace of play
* Worth the dirve (pun intended)
Great course with its challenges
The course has a great layout. The bunkers are bad in that they have dirt rather tan sand. Your golf shoes leave no marks the bunkers are so hard. Greens were mostly in great shape except one on the back nine. This course was a jewel. Hope the staff keep it up a little better
Can’t always trust reviews
Yes I can agree that the sand traps were really dirt traps. However besides that it was a fun layout. Lots of gorgeous homes and nature to look at. The course had some difficult scenarios that required you to think which I enjoyed. I’d spend $16 any time to play again. I wouldn't spend $30 though. There are too many courses with better sand traps and greens to pass them up for this course at that price.
Stay out of the traps
The course was in decent shape. There was dirt on the greens from the mower but for the most part they rolled pretty well. The fairways were firm and it will be nice when they get some thicker turf. The main problem is the bunkers. They are terribly maintained. They are full of weeds rocks and hard dirt. There is.no sand. They might as well seed them# and let grass grow instead. It makes a fairly nice course seem like a goat ranch. But due to the hotel it was worth the cost. And play was quick. Less than 4 hours.
Layout of course will make you play at your best but the traps need work .
The traps where the only thing I was disappointed with they were just dirt.
Desperate need of TLC
They are letting this course go. The only thing getting attention are the greens. They are puttable. The reward for hitting the fairway is barren ground or a weed. The course is difficult enough without dealing with bad lies. The bunkers have never had sand since we've played there and are full of rocks. The rough is full of weeds. If something doesn't change quickly this is going to be a lost cause. The best thing about our round was the price.
Best Value in the Metroplex
This course is always in great shape, and was designed to make you think about risk/reward on every shot (Specifically 9&10).
Highly recommend and will continue to be a regular.
Good experience
We were looking for a place to play that wasn’t too expensive. This was a good deal. Course was in decent shape. Fairways were better than greens. Tee boxes were pretty barren. We were very disappointed in the sand traps. They were hardened clay and very weedy.
Overall a good experience and we will be back.
Great course
Every thing about this course was excellent the greens are in great condition and the course is well taken care of and the staff are very nice will play it again and again
Conditions not up to par
I like the layout, challenging par 5's.
The price and availability of tee times is a plus.
Most of the fairways are hard pan, except for the areas with standing water.
Greens are pretty slow and bumpy.
They have given up on the bunkers, they are unplayable.
