Whitestone Golf Course
About
Long and susceptible to the wind, White Stone Golf Club rolls through an impressive Hill Country-like setting with huge oak trees, lots of rocks, and loads of native oaks, cacti, yucca, and wildflowers.
Bunkers are everywhere on this 7,100-yard Jeff Brauer design, and water comes into play on about seven holes. The key to scoring well is keeping the ball below the hole, avoiding nasty downhill putts on the extremely fast greens. White Stone's par 5s are tough, and average golfers should probably play them conservatively and be happy just getting there in three, since three out of four are fronted by hazards and require carries.
On the front nine, no. 1 tests you early -- it’s a 555-yarder with a creek that crosses the fairway and forces a layup on the second shot. No. 9 is nice as well, a 360-yarder that should be played with a short iron to lay up in front of the creek. This hole features a nice dip in the center of the green that requires knowing the correct pin placement.
White Stone Golf Club's back starts strong like the front, opening with a 580-yard par 5 with a sloping fairway that is cut by the creek on two occasions. No. 11 is the best par 3 on the golf course -- a 200-yarder that plays dow hill over a creek and into a creek surrounded by bunkers.

Course was good except for the bunkers! Most were unplayable greens in good shape
Overpriced
Course was a mixed bag really. Fairways were watered heavy to keep grass on them, greens were full of debris and dirt that made putting impossible, and this course is not even making an effort in the sand traps. Each bunker had several large rocks and no sand in them, so even hitting into a bunker and trying to play it would gouge your club possibly break them....
I showed up for my tee time and was told that two groups just went an played ahead of me just because, even though we were there in the cart and ready a full 15 minutes ahead of the tee time! Once we did get to the tee box we had to sort out which of the four full carts was actually next since everyone was just trying to beat the rush!
I was charged a premium rate for a very sub-par condition course and feel taken advantage of, I will not return to this course again anytime soon.
Great course
This is a great course for a great value we paid 20 bucks and the fairways would clean the greens were clean beautiful course definitely coming back
Whitestone Golf Course
The course was in excellent condition except for the sand traps. They need some serious work. It was not crowded, and my round took less than 3 hours!
WS is earning a roster spot
Played here on and off for over 11+ yrs. Been out numerous times over that span and we have normally seen the course in BRUTALLY bad shape thru the hot months or dry periods. So for that reason we always avoided it except in Spring after wet months. Not now. They are turning things around. It's in great shape right now and they are obviously working on the turf conditions as I have witnessed in the few times I have gone out in recent months. This summer I have actually seen mower lines(ON ACTUAL GRASS) in fairways that have always notoriously been bare and rock hard. To have good grassy lies in the fairway for iron shots at WS is like an entirely new experience from years past. I have seen sprinklers going late in the evenings on hot days and turf from tee to green is showing the benefit. The greens are superb right now too as they aerified them early last month I believe. Very smooth and they have a lot of grab. Bunkers are still wrist breakers but who cares...Just don't hit it into those. It's 100% obvious to the longtime once, maybe twice per year, WS patron that they are trying really hard to maintain and improve the course. I hope they can keep it going and sustain it because it is still one of my favorite layouts and always peaceful. Especially on the back 9. I will definitely play it more often and spend my golfing $ there if they can keep it up. Way to go WS.
Good
I enjoyed this course, will probably be back. There's one par 4 on the back that has a ridiculous dog leg left. They lay it out as if you need to play to an "island" type fairway to the right, then cross over a valley of trees to more fairway/green. You can easily cut the corner straight to the green (probably only need a decent 5 iron to do so). My playing partners laid up to the island fairway and paid the price for doing so, I'm glad I cut the corner, keep that in mind if you play here. Go for it, it's easier than you think and there's a LOT of fairway on the other side of the trees. Overall, a high quality course for the price.
Good Value
My son was in town from Spring, TX. and we were able to get an early Saturday morning Tee-time. The course was in good shape. Fairways were very good and the greens were returning from aeration. Due to that fact, I can only give the greens about 3 1/2 stars on the day we played. I've played this course a few times and it is always in good shape. I would recommend anyone to play Whitestone.
Quit due to pace of play
this course needs to improve on multiple levels. first off, the pace of play was terrible. I quit after 3.25 hours of play which only got me to the 11th tee box. I understand it was a Saturday, but a 6 plus hour round of golf is not enjoyable for anyone. the course needs some work as well, the bunkers were unplayable. some even had grass growing through them. I will not play here again in the near future until I hear things have changed.
Not a Great Experience
We were disappointed that the greens had just been sanded and we were neither told about it nor offered a discount. Also, there were no coolers on the carts. We like to keep our drinks cold and keep our towels cold and wet. They did have soft side coolers in the bar but they only held 4 drinks. The course is set in a sort of a valley so there is no breeze and it was about 95 degrees that day. For what we paid, I don' think it was much of a value. There are other courses closer to us which offer better value.
Give it a try, but do NOT get into the bunkers.
The staff is very friendly and helpful.
Tee boxes, fairways, greens are in excellent condition, the rough is challenging.
Bunkers are awful: there are more rocks in them than sand.
Great Course
We played after a lot of rain, but the course handled it well. I love this course, it is challenging, but not unfair. It is also always in good shape. Will be back soon!
Not Right Now
They've punched the greens. Long way from recovered. I wouldn't return for at least a month. Not enough sand applied to fill holes. Putts jump. Impossible scoring. Punched in mid June? We should have waited till end of July
Good experience
Course is improving. A bit to go, but better. While I am not a fan of being in a sand trap, I feel they should be in good shape. While at any course there are times when they must be pristine, I am also a realist and know the traps have another level. FYI. I want to get a club membership, but the receivership status concerns me. Anyway it was a good day!
Rate Increased
Made reservations to play and was given a tee time and price quote. When arriving at the course they said the rate would be $15 more per player. No thanks. Tried to talk with someone in charge but to no avail. This is not how you run a golf course.
AbAverage erage
The course layout is nice and challenging. It's a pretty course. But... the sand traps are not sand, they're dirt traps and the greens are super slow and in rough condition.
Nice course to play number 10 is a crazy design sand traps are dirt traps didn't even try to hit out of them
Need to play more than once
There are a number of hidden shots yo landing areas. There could be better signage in a number of areas for next tee etc. I think second visit would be a much better experience than first
Amenities
For a Memorial Day weekend there wasn't "a good atmosphere of a good time" shall I say. Need to have someone selling beverages on the course. Maybe some music playing outside on the patio. Called next day about playing in there tournament and the lady had no info on it besides the tournament started at 1:00. Great layout, easy course, granite I didn't play well for the first time out there. Sand traps needed good sand in the bunkers. Looked like they were getting them ready for sand. I hope. Easy off the tee. Tough to play after that. Which I like. But it had great views. Nice homes around the course. Could be a really fun place to go monthly and take guest to
fair price and nice layout
Nice track. fair, lots of trees, slight rolling hills..worth the money
