Tapati-NO :(

So sad to see this course in such rough shape, the greens specifically. This course used to be one of the best in the surrounding area, definitely can’t say the same anymore. I know it’s still technically a “resort”, but this course doesn’t warrant “resort prices” anymore, it is very much overpriced. 2 weeks ago, our cart couldn’t go up any hill without severely jerking because the battery was dying. Then, a couple days ago we had a random grey cart with no more GPS on the carts so that was disappointing as well. On a positive note, the hill country views are still picturesque & that’s pretty much what you’re paying for nowadays.

Tapatio New Management

I have played Tapatio since 2017 and had not been back since the fall of 2024. I was disappointed in the golf course condition. I realize this is early spring 2025 and precipitation is sadly lacking. Nonetheless, I will continue to support my community’s golf course.

They should be embarrassed

I just moved to San Antonio and kept hearing nothing but great things about this track. $114 round after GN fee, standard rate for a respectable course, but the greens were HAMMERED. 45% of each green was dead dirt covered in fertilizer sand, 45% crabgrass and 10% grass. The course layout was a lot of fun. If the greens were pure I would come back again and again. But just wasting money with those green conditions. Greens keeper and course pro should be ashamed of themselves.

Course is in bad shape.

Definitely do not play for the money. Greens are in horrible shape. Just simply not worth the money. When this course is in good shape it’s one of my favorites

Fooled

We booked online and we had previously played this course, probably 5-6 years ago. Tees and fairways are average. Pace of play was fine. However, the greens were absolutely terrible. The review that said they were fine has much lower expectations than we did. We have played four other courses in the San Antonio area. Tapatio was $105 each, and the others ranged from $55-$65. None of the others had greens as poor as Tapatio. Even with low expectations these greens would not be considered acceptable. We were fooled by our past experience. After the round we went into the pro shop to let them know that we were not pleased, and especially that there was no fore warning about the condition. The young man we spoke to to had all the excuses. Greens are older, poa has crept in, but really no apologies. Would suggest avoiding this golf course until it becomes properly maintained from tee to green.

Excellent value and amenities

I was scared by the previous reviews, got to the course and realized some people just don't like to be happy. This course is fantastic! Sure, greens are NOT perfect, but they weren't terrible either. Playable for sure. Layout is fun. Some holes have blind tee shots but the carts have GPS and let you know where the group ahead is. My wife and I finished our round in 3:15. And that was with us having 3 foursomes in front of us. The people who played here knew how to play and moved as such. It was a lovely experience to see a full golf course flow smoothly. They have a good chip/pitching section and driving range. Overall golf was a lot of fun.

I want to touch on some of the reviews I read about the starter - the starter was great. He did his job perfectly - which was keep pace of play moving and organize groups accordingly. He did exactly that. He even came up to us during warm up and ASKED US if we wanted to start early. I say that because I read reviews of people saying the starter FORCED them to go.... not true at all. It was a kind gesture to come up and say "hey, tee box is open and there's no groups going out if you wan to head out now, you can". I loved it.

Lastly, this is a resort so it comes with all the bells and whistles - restaurant, bar, multiple areas to relax and watch other hackers golf. It was a lot of fun.

This was our first time golfing here but we will definitely come back. If you've golfed in the San Antonio area, just know this is NOT La Cantera , and is priced as such, but will be soon - you can feel it. It has more Quarry vibes for around the same price and a lot faster pace of play. It blows Hill Country Hyatt out of the water for sure - even pre construction.

Greens are terrible

Man I was so excited to place this course, it’s a beautiful location, a great resort and clubhouse, but man the course overall is in pretty bad shape. The greens are just about not playable, the tee boxes are not much better. I’ve never played here but the guy we played with said he played here 2 years ago and it was in the same shape. Just feel like a resort course could do a much better job, ball cleaners all were bone dry, and never once saw a beverage cart.

Greens are bad

I know it’s winter but greens are terrible. Would recommend going somewhere else specially if you’re paying full price. Only played the front 9 but layout was pretty basic.

Much better courses for cheaper in San Antonio area

Greens are absolutely awful. $115 for a round at this course is a joke. Winter takes a toll on a course, but this place has the worst greens within 50 miles. Go elsewhere

Stay away for now

They are charging over a hundred dollars for a course with some of the worst greens around. Layout of the course is still one of my favorites, but the greens simply aren’t puttable. Tee boxes are mostly fair quality as well as fairways. Mats on the range have needed replacing for awhile. I heard that Troon has recently bought it, so hopefully it turns around. I would stay away for at least 6 months.

Hill Country Golf

The course layout, staff, amenities were great. Currently, since we are in the middle of winter, it’s very brown. The greens need a lot of work. I am sure with Spring coming and water the course will look fabulous. Definitely a must play, especially if you get a HOT DEAL through Golf Now. The course is hilly, in a canyon, surrounded by the lower hill country of Texas. The holes are very close to each other, with the back 9 surrounding the front 9. Good walking course.

Tapatio Resort Golf Course...Not Ready for Prime Time

I understand that Tapatio Gold Coyrse has had some problems getting qualified staff to manage and maintain the course over rhe past three months, but I played it in early January, and it was in no better shape than all of the local public golf courses. The fairways were not well maintained, but the greens and tee boxes were in horrible shape, not worth the $95 price tag. I've been told by knowledgeable friends that the course has been in great condition as recently as late September, but something has changed. The layout is outstanding, so this was a bit disappointing. For the same price, a person can play The Quarry and get an excellent course. I will wait until spring to play Tapatio again...but ask about the greens and fairways before making a tee time this winter.

Small course, poor green conditions, expensive based on course conditions and rate

Small golf course. Holes fit into small place, greens in bad condition, same tee box used for two different holes. Very friendly staff.

Based on course conditions, very expensive at $115 round rate

Meh

Got a bit rushed by the starter, making us tee off 20 minutes early, so we didn't get a full range session in. Course was in good shape, except the greens. They need some work, which is surprising with the decent weather, the price they charge, and no cold weather yet.

Overpriced.

First time playing today 12/28/24. Greens looked to have been scalped. Just mud in some places on a few greens, layout was very picturesque and fairways were beautiful. Overall for paying 115 dollars I’d expect to have atleast decent greens to play on.
