Labor Day golf outing
The new G2 putting greens were in excellent playing conditions. This is the Best course in the RGV with outstanding staff.
Poor Maintenance
Course has temporary greens that we weren’t told about till we got to the tee box so you are putting in the middle of the fairway. Every tee box was in poor condition. They were working on hole 6 and had the tee box moved up to where it was a 30 yard par 3. We weren’t able to get a refund on the back 9 and the bar tender was very moody to us. Wouldn’t recommend playing here for a while till the course is done being worked on.
All the greens were being fixed and hole 12 was unplayable
Temp Greens
This course has 18 temporary greens and should be closed for play or offered at discount rate! No notice was posted at the counter and was even told that temp status is on line. I would not have booked if I saw this temp green on GolfNow!
Staff was very friendly and helpful, tee boxes were not great, fairways were mostly good, but there were temporary greens that we did not know about since they are re-doing their greens, overall not bad and would recommend if the greens were not temporary or at a low price.
No aerification notice….
Playing green in middle of fairway at the regular price? That’s a huge NO-NO!
Nice people but…..
First of all, let’s preface this with we were all hit hard by the freeze this year and the entire island is still recovering. I get it. However, when we arrived and checked in, they were very nice. Check in was quick and they loaded our bags onto the carts and even had ice in the cart ice chests for us….a definite plus. Mosquitoes were horrid but that is expected as all of the rain is making it The Hunger Games for them. Pros, it was a decent layout with wide open fairways. Sand bunkers were in decent shape as well.l and the scenery was nice. Golf carts were nice with no mechanical issues or bumpy rides.
Now the cons, they did not tell us they were using temporary greens until we pulled up to the first hole and the starter advised us. It would have been nice to know before we booked it and at least, before we paid. Price was slightly reduced but still about what we generally pay at better courses during the week. The temporary greens were definitely not rolled. It felt like you were putting in your front yard or a pasture that had just been mowed. Definitely a lot of members and residence skipping around everywhere which interrupted the flow of the round. Furthermore, judging distances is not normally a problem for me based on yardage markers and paces, but there was no way to know yardages to these very small slightly mowed areas. I normally use my app for GPS yardage but that does no good with temp greens. Overall, the course just needs a lot of work but they are very nice people at this location. I would return after further reviews and evaluation of the golf course by others to determine if they get this course in better shape. It’s hard to say if I would recommend another course as this is the only one in South Padre we have played.
Nice course watch for 4 hole players
Nice course; you will encounter retirees playing 3-4 random holes from time to time.
Great coarse!
Greens were great staff was very friendly piece of play was perfect
Play it! It is a fun course
It's a good layout, fair and fun. It was smacked by the Feb winter vortex and the course has recovered nicely. There are tough spots on the course grounds, but it's April. I am going to play it again this week.
The Pro Shop staff, Sean is exceptional in terms of his Customer Service, even to a tourist!
Decent and improving track
Getting a lot of play, and a lot of slow players recently.
Good news is that the ownership is plowing a lot if those green fees back into improvements.
Going to 10-11 minute intervals would help some, but still enjoyable round of golf with up to 5 different tee boxes to pick from
Best in south Texas
I just moved from Los Angeles and this is now one of my favorite courses.
Decent track. Convenient
If you’re on SPI for vacation this is the closest course and a decent track. Coming into Spring 2021,the management is obviously upgrading the fairways etc.
Bartender dude in restaurant “”Divots” is the only real downer. Everyone else is very friendly. He’s costing them a lot of sales.
