Decent track. Convenient
If you’re on SPI for vacation this is the closest course and a decent track. Coming into Spring 2021,the management is obviously upgrading the fairways etc.
Bartender dude in restaurant “”Divots” is the only real downer. Everyone else is very friendly. He’s costing them a lot of sales.
Lots of potential—for what that’s worth
Fairways are hard and shaggy but probably expected for this time of year. Greens need a lot more work. Was told they lost several of them last fall so I guess they need time to recover but that doesn’t explain all the old hole marks you can see on every green. Their driving range is an open field with poles sticking up from the ground...no landing areas cut and their range balls are all old lost/water balls with very few dimples left. Still they charge a premium fee for their use...$6 for a small warmup bucket! Most disappointing thing is pace of play. Course is amid a housing community that caters to “winter Texans” so most of the groups I saw were seniors, women, and couples. No one is moving too briskly and always seem to be bunched together for everyone’s shot instead of going to their own ball and being prepared to hit when it’s their turn. Slow is an understatement but not in the looking for lost balls/poor proficiency kind of way. Too much lallygagging and BSing in the fairways and on the greens. Saw multiple “Rangers” driving around but no one talking to the slow groups about keeping up their pace. I’d recommend the course for its layout after the greens come in a little better but would warn not to expect to play in four hours or less. Would NOT recommend as a practice facility. Bar and grill is affordable and what we ate was very good
Excellent, fun design with tee boxes for all levels, it seems. On course staff was very friendly and pro shop staff Robert and Shawn went above and beyond. We will be back!
Nice course fairly priced
Course plays well and is in reasonable condition. Front nine offer more interesting holes. Hard ground with thin winter grass offered a lot of roll. Windy conditions made you think about the right shot and right club. Will return.
Great experience given the time of year:)
The layout is a lot of fun, especially the front 9 starting off near the bay and following it along....hole #5 was a blast from the black tee box, even though it is under 370 as a par 4. The wet conditions made the greens slow at the end of the roll, but overall, the greens where fine. Pace of play was great (pre 8am tee time; 3.25 pace). Super friendly staff as well:). The back nine has a bit less character in layout than the front, but the experience is still quality.
Highly recommend this course.
The course was in very good shape and my wife and I had a pleasurable experience. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. We will definitely golf here again!
South Padre
Loved the course and the challenges offered. The front 9 seems to have more of a wind block than the back 9. The putting greens are excellent. The views on the course are breathtaking.
Greens!!!
Bouncy uneven greens.slooooowww greens are the worst
