Challenging par-3, #8 Photo submitted by ConnieBlack on 05/26/2014
Great Course
They have had a lot of rain so was muddy. Sure not typical. Staff and range were incredible!
Healing Nicely
I knocked the pace of play because it was cart path only. However, it is the course saving grace. It was devastated by Hurricane Beryl this summer.
Most courses would have rushed back to open, but the Wilderness is keeping the carts off the course to allow it to heal.
Its present state is still 99% better than most courses in the Greater Houston area.
Great course
Despite the challenges left by Beryl the course plays well and the greens are in great shape.
Well worth the trip!
While looking for courses to play during my visit to Houston for the holidays, I kept seeing the same places pop up that I have played on other visits and the ones I hadn’t were far too rich for my taste. When I heard about The Wilderness I was intrigued and when the wife mentioned it was one she had looked at to book for me as a gift I knew I should go for it. I made the trip down and played 9 at another local course before hitting the Wilderness. This course was breath taking from the moment I drove in, it is beautifully crafted into the landscape. The staff was very helpful and the starter was a stand up guy! I was expecting to have to be paired up but they were happy to let me out as a single. While I def didn’t play my best I had a ton of fun hacking around the course, the front nine was great but I feel like the course architecture really shines on the Back-9. I can’t wait to get a chance to come back and play here just a beautiful course all around.
Alot of divots and holes on the geens!
Course is in good condition fairways coming around. The greens are in good shape they just need to be taken care of not enough accountability on them as far as fixing divot marks and some holes look like putters were smashed into the ground and greens weren't repaired. It's alot of money to play and you have to putt and the greens aren't taken care of.
Great Course
Had a great time with some buddies on my first round out there. Everything was top notch and the course was a perfect blend of challenging and attackable. We will definitely be back soon!
A little overpriced for course conditions
Cart path only since the hurricane. Lots of fairways still in poor condition. I would think they could discount the green fee until conditions improve.
This place is the hidden gem of south Texas
First time to play this coarse. To start the guys in the pro shop were up front and honest. Told us they are recovering from storm damage and the fairways have some bald spots. It was. Cart path only so play was a little slow but we still turned it in 4 1/2 hours. Greens are fast but will hold mid iron shots. These greens have more break than any in Houston in my opinion. This place just turned into my new favorite. Can’t wait to play iit again. If you can’t keep it in the fairway off the tee you will struggle. Worth the drive for sure
Course will be great!
Even with extensive damage from the hurricane and recovery will underway, the course is in decent shape and has a wonderful track. Once fully recovered, it's sure to be an amazing course.
Well kept and challenging course
The course was beautiful and well kept. It was quite challenging and enjoyable to play. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Thank you for your feedback! We understand your concerns regarding the Cart Path Only conditions. Unfortunately, the fairways suffered significant damage from Hurricane Beryl, as the course held water for over 10 days. We’re pleased to share that the course has drastically improved, and we have reopened hole #9 as a par 4.
To accommodate our golfers during this time, we offered a discount for the first month after reopening and provided bounce-back cards to customers who paid during this period. If you didn’t receive any of these offerings, please reach out to me at molvera@kempersports.com, and I’ll be happy to assist you.
We appreciate your understanding and hope to welcome you back soon!
