Houston National Golf Club
About
Houston National Golf Club, located in the northwestern part of the city, definitely follows the old adage that "everything is bigger in Texas." This whopping course stretches to 7,337 yards from the back tees. It is a lengthy golf course no doubt, but it doesn't just favor those who can hit long. The layout has a unique links design, so long hitters will be pleased but they will have to be careful of the numerous pot bunkers and other strategically placed hazards waiting treacherously throughout. The golf course has an interesting character that sets it apart from others nearby thanks to a landscape of rolling hills and hardly any trees, a surprise since there is no shortage of trees in the area. Houston National Golf Club's wide-open links design also subjects golfers to the strong prevailing winds, making several of the holes especially tricky.

Greens
All the greens were in super condition!
They were fast and very fair.
That, of course…pun intended, is just like I’ve found them to be over the many years I have played them.
Not worth the money
Paid $60 on a hot deal and even that is too high. Course is in rough shape. Fairways are cow pasture like and the rough is some of the worst I’ve seen in Houston. 100 different types of weeds/grass. Only redeeming quality was the greens. Not a whole lot of weeds on the greens so the ball rollled relatively well despite being slow. Plenty of other courses in Houston that offer more value. Will not be returning.
Good value for the money
Their new golf carts are outstanding. Comfortable and clean. They even have phone charging plates built in. The built in GPS works great.
Much better now
I have played last two years and the conditions of the course improved. Much appreciated.
Houston National is Going Down
They were mowing the Course while we were playing. The Bunkers were never raked and full of weeds. They do not allow Golf Carts on the parking lot. Everyone was complaining about it. The Greens were rolling good !!!
Golf
Course was good greens were very good
Man at desk needs to be friendlier
Wonderful layout, friendly staff, mixed conditions
The course layout is fantastic, difficult and penalizing the way I like it. Makes you think and work your way around. The staff was friendly and helpful. Conditions were mixed - most importantly the greens are fantastic, which is all that really matters. The fairways had a ton of weeds and need a lot of work, but finding a fair lie if you move the ball is very easy. The bunkers look like they haven't had sand added or been raked in months, with weeds growing up in them, but hey, they're hazards and you're not supposed to hit it there anyway. This course has a ton of potential, if a bit of TLC were given to the fairways.
Greens Great. Everything Else Terrible.
Bad grass. Bad maintenance. Slow pace of play. A legitimate and course acceptable 5 some played in front of us backing up the entire course.
Houston National
Well maintained course. Pace of play a bit slow, but that's on the golfers. What I didn't care for was the unfriendliness of the staff. The clubhouse staff was just "present", the starter was hostile...not a smile to be found, not a thank you for coming to be heard.
Rude Pro Shop Staff ruined golf
The staff in the pro shop are the worst ever. Just because I used a Hot Deal, he made me feel like I was stealing from him personally and the Course. If the staff don’t want to honor the hot deal price. they shouldn’t offer it.
Course and Golf cart
Fairway’s has lots of weeds in it and the golf cart died in the tunnel after the 18th hole. So, we had to take our bags and walk back.
Rough Shape
Course was in rough shape all around. Bare patches, native grasses and weeds all around. Miss a fairway and don’t plan a recovery shot. Not worth the $89 I paid.
Pure neglect
I'm not sure why they've completely neglected this course but charging almost 100 is price gouging to say the least. There's soo many other options in the area that actually mow grass and rake their bunkers.
I've complained about the bunkers being unplayable for months and not 1 bunker in all 18 holes is playable which absolutely disgusts me. They look like the course has been closed for over a year with weeds actually growing in the bunkers, I mean absolute neglect. But to be overcharged was the icing on the cake and why I'm compelled for a next day review. The only saving grace, the greens roll good, not great. You would not have 1 member on your private course and I'm more than sure they have sand in bunkers and raked daily which is normal. Our group lost or had a very hard time finding balls in play, just off the fairway. The grass in some areas that are bone dry hasn't been mowed in months. The rough probably hasn't been mowed in several weeks and the crab grass is everywhere because of the neglect, just collecting money.
The Houston national side is a disgrace and someone needs to be removed. I'll stop by to practice as range and practice area is good. I'm sorry but someone needs to be fired
