I like this golf course. It’s not great but pretty good and a fun layout

It is painfully obvious that the club spends all their maintenance dollars on their private course, Sterling CC. The abundance of weeds in the fairways says they don't use weed killers on this 18. The rough on this course is comprised of mostly weeds. Also what little grass actually exists in the fairways is mostly burnt out. It's a shame as this course has a great layout for this area. Houston National has great cart paths and decent greens but it stops there.

Lots of st Augustine grass on the course. Should have no place on a golf course. Weeds have taken over the fairways. Greens are good. Used to be a lot better. Not worth the money.

Overall a very good course to play. Understandably dry conditions but the greens were in excellent condition.

Have played this course a few times, the last time 3 years or so ago. The previous time the range was under construction. 3 years later it’s still looks like the moon’s surface. The layout is fun with interesting holes, but the fairways were crispy fried grass, and many tee boxes not any better. We had what seemed a reasonably wet spring and early summer - really expected better conditions. And no beverage cart on the non-member side on what was a very hot afternoon. If you don’t put a cart out then put some extra water stations out there! With the Golf Now Hot Deal the $65.00 I paid would be the high end of what they should be charging. Get the fairways in shape and then I would recommend going back!

The greens were in very good condition! The rest of the course had not been watered in months and was in horrible condition. Too bad because it is a very fun lay out.

Had my best round to date at HNGC. Being it’s the middle of August in Houston the tee boxes could use some love. However the fairways and greens were in great shape. Range amenities could use attention along with some water. Still had a great day and will return soon.

The front nine are in pretty good shape the 10-12 greens are in rough shape. Sand traps are in really bad shape and I would not recommend hitting out of them. The fair ways were pretty good and hitting out of the rough is challenging it’s very thick. This course challenges you if you miss fairways. As others have mentioned because the rough is thick you lose balls slightly left or right of the fairway. I lose 2 and they were maybe 5-9 yards right of the fairway.

Overall I’d play to again. I paid roughly 55 for the round which was a good value. Tee boxes are mostly in good shape staff was nice and helpful.

Greens were okay. However, the rest of the course was less than ideal. Bunkers were horrible and a lake in the middle of the par 5 12th hole. Serious drainage issues. The $92 weekend rate is not was overpriced IMO. You can tell they are putting all the money into the Members course.

The conditions have gotten really bad. Weeds around the fringe and rough way to long for non-tournament play, many dirt patches in the fairway. Some areas the rough is so low long it’s impossible to find your ball.

Easy to find each hole without needing a GPS, navigation map through the golf cart, they also have a car that goes around if you want to buy an extra drink or two while you play
