Houston National Golf Club
About
Houston National Golf Club, located in the northwestern part of the city, definitely follows the old adage that "everything is bigger in Texas." This whopping course stretches to 7,337 yards from the back tees. It is a lengthy golf course no doubt, but it doesn't just favor those who can hit long. The layout has a unique links design, so long hitters will be pleased but they will have to be careful of the numerous pot bunkers and other strategically placed hazards waiting treacherously throughout. The golf course has an interesting character that sets it apart from others nearby thanks to a landscape of rolling hills and hardly any trees, a surprise since there is no shortage of trees in the area. Houston National Golf Club's wide-open links design also subjects golfers to the strong prevailing winds, making several of the holes especially tricky.

Rough
Very poor condition. Hitting out of weeds on the fringe of the greens. Used to be one of my favorite courses now it seems they’ve abandoned it maintenance wise
Good greens. Overall good quality
Nice course overall.
The greens were very well maintained and in general the course is rather forgiving for med level players.
I like the play + beer&burger combo
No roll
We had some rain so the course was longer than usual. Longer second shots made my score go up a bit next time hopefully it is dryer. Aside from that is was a great round. Course was just wet.
Nice course
Besides the crab grass protecting all the greens the course was in decent shape for the time of year. Fairways could have been a little more maintained but overall a pleasant experience.
Shape
This is the best shape I've seen it in years, grass growing in the fairways now. The greens were slower than they usually are, but in great condition. There are still the bare spots where people enter and exit the fairways, I would love to see them use either crushed granite or mulch these areas. Then have designated entries and exits from the fairways, this course has always had these issues. But the layout and playability of the course has always been a favorite of mine, I hope that they can and are willing to keep getting it in good shape, great course for the money. I'll definitely keep coming back, thank you.
Very good course
Good lay out. Pretty challenging for first timer. Surprisingly, course was not busy on a weekday.
Bad shape
Had to switch carts twice on the front 9 they were in such bad shape.
Weeds/rough was so high you would lose a ball 3 foot off the fairway.
Back 9 had 3 carts waiting at every hole. Had to stop at hole 13 because pace of play was so horrendous. Course is worth about $25 a round.
Needs Some Work
This course has the potential to be excellent, but it's just not quite there. The range has zero grass on it and you have to hit off of mats and no distance measurements to the targets are given. The course itself is very challenging with small, elevated greens in great condition. The fairways are pretty beat up though, not much grass to hit off of. With a little TLC this course be one of the best, but as it is, I only give it 3 stars.
Houston National
Hot deals rate, great pace, decent course conditions. Patio at club is nice. Good food
Almost
It’s ALMOST a good course. the layout is unique and tough but forgiving. It just needs some help. the grass is super patchy and the cart paths are brutal but the greens are DIALED right now with the exception of a few. A little love and this course would be a gem.
Need marshalls. One foursome held up entire course
Tough course
A course you need to play several times before you can expect to score. Great layout but with cartpath only it's a grueling experience.Greens are sublime and rolled at close to 12. I will be back but not for cartpath only.
Great Greens
The greens were excellent and very fair as usual!
Course, especially the fairways were nice and dry, (even though we had some rain just two days before.
Public side of houston national
Bunkers are trash not taken care of fairways are medeoker greens are in great condition fast greens over all it is still great coarse to play
Saturday morning solo round
Course was in good shape. It was a bit windy and a little chilly but all in all a fun round. The round comes with a free beer and lunch
Gas golf carts?
This is the first time in playing golf since 1983 that a course had gasoline driven golf carts instead of electric ones, it was a jew experience! No a bad one but new one!
