Conveniently located near downtown San Antonio not too far from Austin, Vaaler Creek Golf Club has a memorable layout of gently rolling hills dotted with creeks, ponds and lakes. The course begins with a challenging front nine and then eases up a bit on the back nine, but overall it is a formidable test. The greens are tricky and demanding, especially on the front nine where there are some severe slopes and undulations. The back nine greens are a bit flatter but they still require careful attention. The rolling, contoured fairways are lined with trees and there are deep bunkers strategically guarding the greens, but luckily there are only seventeen of them. Water hazards come into play throughout and there are also several doglegs and blind shots if there wasn’t enough to keep you on your toes.

Great course

Very nice course. Really well maintained. Challenging holes for all levels of golfers. Courtesy warm up range balls were provided which was nice. Can’t wait to play there again and get a better score.

Need Better Signs!!!

This is a great place to play !!!!

But please add some LARGER SIGNS!

The Sign Pointing you to the Clubhouse off the main road in is located behind a tree!!!

Also the signs pointing you to the driving range (which is not close to the clubhouse) and 1st tee box and 9th tee box are so small and far apart you can miss them!

Again the staff and course are great!

Incredible course

We played 9 days after the course was aerated and sanded. We were offered a discount without asking. Exceptionally well maintained and manicured. Awesome layout, really fun to play. We were first off at 0730 as a 2-some. Played in 3 hours. On par with the Marriot TPC course in San Antonio. Will play here again-often.

The only complaint I had was the greens. They had been recently sanded and were very difficult to putt on. It would have been nice to know that before scheduling a foursome to play.

Wow

What a fun course! Highly recommend! Large greens with multiple tiers and rolling at good pace. Deep bunkers that you don’t want to be in. And just absolutely beautiful.

But the highlight for me was the staff. It can be a confusing place to find you way around if it’s your first time (it was for me). They immediately walked out from the clubhouse with me and made sure I knew where I was going. Once I got to the starter, he was super friendly and gave me all the tips he could think of for the course. The 3 I got paired with where all fun people to golf with. 10/10 would recommend.

Great shape slow pace

Course was in great shape however the group of 6 playing ahead of us slowed us down to a crawl. Several chances for them to have allowed our twosome to play through however they all had their private carts so they are residents and couldn’t be bothered to maintain course rules and keep pace or allow groups to play through. Has been a common theme every time I have played this course.
