About
Conveniently located near downtown San Antonio not too far from Austin, Vaaler Creek Golf Club has a memorable layout of gently rolling hills dotted with creeks, ponds and lakes. The course begins with a challenging front nine and then eases up a bit on the back nine, but overall it is a formidable test. The greens are tricky and demanding, especially on the front nine where there are some severe slopes and undulations. The back nine greens are a bit flatter but they still require careful attention. The rolling, contoured fairways are lined with trees and there are deep bunkers strategically guarding the greens, but luckily there are only seventeen of them. Water hazards come into play throughout and there are also several doglegs and blind shots if there wasn’t enough to keep you on your toes.

Worthy course, for now
Overall positive, but constructive criticisms follow:
- many of the pins were placed in extreme locations.
- the greens seemed slower than normal.
- too many tee boxes were rough and/or crowned.
Practice range and practice putting green are good. The starter is friendly and engaging. The cart person is delightful. Sad to see so many homes being built on the course; in time, it will be just another course in the middle of a neighborhood.
Very fun course!
My first time at Vaaler Creek. It is a very fun layout and I had an excellent experience. The course wasn't in perfect condition, but it was okay and playable. Greens could have been faster. I will go back and play again.
Excellent course and perfectly priced.
Favorite course! Greens, fairways and tee’s are always green and in good playing condition. Definitely recommend to anyone.
Course conditions
I play a lot of municipal and public such as this course. This by far exceeds all others in fairway grass( many courses don’t have much) and conditions of greens. Amazing for this time of year and the lack of rainfall. The superintendent has done an outstanding job!!! Can’t wait to visit again!
Greens are harder than you think but fun to play.

As Expected
This course was a good value. Great Hill Country layout. It could use some better maintenance. Excellent carts. Would not hesitate to play multiple times.
6hr 20min round, was brutal. Course layout is great, amenities are great. Love this golf course, but pace of play that day was poor
Great course
6hr 15 min round, due to a girls high school tournament. Course set up way to difficult for their level of play. Poorly marshalled, and poorly planned. Great course under normal circumstance.
Great course; overpriced for greens overgrown by Poa grass
I have always enjoyed playing at Vaaler Creek. It’s a well-designed course with a challenging layout. As an experienced golfer in San Antonio, it is very frustrating, however, to see courses in the area charge full price for greens overgrown by Poa grass. Something needs to be done about this from a legal standpoint because it happens every spring. Unless you enjoy paying $90 to three-putt 8 times, save your money until May.
Disappointed o
First of all, keep in mind that mid March may not be best time to evaluate course. Played in a TXGA womens tour so many of the complaints will be directed at them. Area appears to be really suffering from drought. . Good shots often end up in hazard as rough simply does not hold. Greens are dealing with two types of grass, bumpy.Bunkers good.
Not sure what rate the TXGA got but $70 per round too much. But if club can get it, go for it.
