Vaaler Creek Golf Club

About
Conveniently located near downtown San Antonio not too far from Austin, Vaaler Creek Golf Club has a memorable layout of gently rolling hills dotted with creeks, ponds and lakes. The course begins with a challenging front nine and then eases up a bit on the back nine, but overall it is a formidable test. The greens are tricky and demanding, especially on the front nine where there are some severe slopes and undulations. The back nine greens are a bit flatter but they still require careful attention. The rolling, contoured fairways are lined with trees and there are deep bunkers strategically guarding the greens, but luckily there are only seventeen of them. Water hazards come into play throughout and there are also several doglegs and blind shots if there wasn’t enough to keep you on your toes.

Hidden Gem
Overall, love the course. In great shape before the dog days of Summer get into full swing. Carts are nice, greens, fairways in good shape. Some water on the course that will lead you to make a decision then live with the results. Not far from me, but could be a drive for others to the Blanco area. Would definitely go back. Rates are more than the muni’s, but They are within reason in comparison to other courses. Definitely going back.
Fun course
The course was in very good shape. It provided challenges for experienced players but was a good course for beginners as well. A few of the tee boxes were dry and a bit unlevel but not manageable. Our cart quit working after 15 holes and we called staff and they promptly replaced it. I would golf here again.
Amazing Central Texas coarse
We had a great time. Fairways and greens in amazing shape. Laid back
Best course in area
Trust me, you won’t find a better course! Prices to play, fairways are well kept, greens are nice, and staff is awesome! By far my most favorite course.
My Favorite Course
Had another wonderful time out at Vaaler Creek yesterday, even though I didn't score my best. The fairways were impeccable as always and the greens were simply wonderful. They putted a little slower than normal, but overall they were truly great. Pace of play was pretty good throughout the day. Had what I felt like was a very slow foursome in front of me on the first nine, but we still played that in 2:10. Managed to get by them and several other groups and finished my round in about 3 1/2 hours.
Awesome conditions
Course has never been in a better condition. Lush fairways and great greens. My favorite course!
Course in Great Shape, But the Pro Shop Needs Work
I’ve played Vaaler Creek Golf Club several times and keep coming back for one reason — the course is absolutely beautiful and consistently in fantastic condition. The fairways are lush, the greens roll true, and the layout is fun yet challenging. It’s a hidden gem in the Hill Country that’s well worth the drive.
That said, the experience is always somewhat dampened by the rude attitude in the pro shop. Every time I check in, I’m met with short, dismissive responses and zero enthusiasm. It’s not just an off day — it seems to be the norm. Customer service should match the quality of the course, and unfortunately, it doesn’t here.
Still, if you can overlook the unwelcoming front desk, you’ll find one of the better public golf experiences in the area. Just don’t expect a warm welcome when you walk in the door.
Great getaway
Played by myself on a trip to wineries. Was paired with a great group of guys. The course is in great shape and greens were immaculate. Will play here on my next trip.
Many tee boxes for varying skill levels.
Course is in Great shape!
Big change from last summer to this summer. The course is in immaculate condition. Tee box need a little work but greens and fairways are top notch.
Great course, need the marshalls to get after the slow groups to speed up
Love playing at Vaaler Creek, great course layout and really challenging greens. Starting on hole #12 we back up w/ 4 groups on this par 3 and it never got any better. All remaining holes were slow play which is unusual for this course.
Great course and layout - But Np Cartgirl
Loved the layout and the staff was very friendly. Greens were fast but well maintained as well as the tee boxes. There was a tournament ahead of us that slowed our pace down drastically. Nothing we could have done though about it. The wait would not have felt as long if a cart girl came by to check in and see if we needed anything. After the front nine, grabbed a sandwich at the grill. Sandwich was AMAZING!!!!! Definitely will come back, but maybe when there is no tournament. Hopefully there would be a cart girl next time.
Time will tell
One of my favorite hill country courses. Some of the funnest green complexes but unfortunately they don’t keep the greens cut close enough for the beautiful undulations to really come into play. Your ball can literally come to rest on a slope. During the winter this course is special with it being completely over seeded from tee to green. With spring here, the poa annua grass has taken over large portions of the greens and I think this will lead to horrible green conditions when it dies off and leaves huge voids of grass. That’s what happened last summer and they were pretty much unplayable. Anyway, play it now while it’s green and decent!
This course keeps you on your toes
First time playing this course. Easy check in but a little confusing finding the 1st hole. 4pm tee time so about the time we got to the turn the grill was closed and food cart was no longer coming around. They provided tees and towels in the cart but towel was dirty. Beautiful course and really enjoyed each hole. Each hole definitely had its up and downs.
THIS IS AN AMAZING COURSE
We moved to the area about 5 months ago and have been visiting course in the area to get a feel for what is out here, and I have to say that this course is going in the books as one of the good ones. The course layout is challanging and makes you have to think about where you are going to hit and what you are going to hit. You will not be able to take driver off all of the tees and be sucessful, and you will need to think about the next shot before you hit. The greens roll true and you have to look at the slope to make your putt, a few of the pin placements had me putting 30 or 40 degrees off the true line to make a putt, it was challanging but alot of fun.
We were at the course ontime and made our way to the pro shop to check-in, the gentleman that was helpful in getting us oriented to the layout and how to get to the first tee, over the bridge and down the residental street 300 yards to the well marked path between two houses that is the first green. We were 3 minutes past our tee time and the starter was sure to let us know that, he was a bit rude and abrasive in his posture and attitude when it came time to let us know that we were behind, I will own my part always, we were late and will take the hit of missing the first hole to catch our group that was already at the green, he didn't need to be nasty to make his point.
Once on the course we had a great time, the other twosome was awesome, friendly and members of the course so were able to recommend shots. I genuinely had a great time playing. On course there are clean restrooms, plenty of ice cold water and ball/club washing stations.
Pace of play was good, we were pushed slightly by the group behind us and only waited on the group ahead once we got to 16 and followed them in to 18.
I really have nothing bad to say about the course other than the starter being a bit abrasive, but again I was behind, so ultimately the fault is mine.
Terribly slow
Beautiful course , challenging,
Had a 1:30pm tee time on Saturday. After 9 holes which took 3 hrs. Our group rolls up to #10 and there are three groups waiting to start the back 9. The manger did give our group a free round which was extremely nice. I was very disappointed.
Challenging and fun!
Enjoyed the challenge of narrow fairways and elevation changes. Grounds well maintained, and staff was attentive and checked on us several times along the way. Appreciated their kindness!! Last two holes over water were exhilarating!! Thank you!!
