Vaaler Creek Golf Club
About
Conveniently located near downtown San Antonio not too far from Austin, Vaaler Creek Golf Club has a memorable layout of gently rolling hills dotted with creeks, ponds and lakes. The course begins with a challenging front nine and then eases up a bit on the back nine, but overall it is a formidable test. The greens are tricky and demanding, especially on the front nine where there are some severe slopes and undulations. The back nine greens are a bit flatter but they still require careful attention. The rolling, contoured fairways are lined with trees and there are deep bunkers strategically guarding the greens, but luckily there are only seventeen of them. Water hazards come into play throughout and there are also several doglegs and blind shots if there wasn’t enough to keep you on your toes.

Golf at Vaaler Creek
To be fair we did follow the slowest group in the Scramble tournament so it was slow for 8 holes. Once we they were gone it was a breeze. I love the course the ride out and we did get a "special". Certainly in the top 5 of favorite courses to play.!
Great Texas Hill Country course
One of the best kept courses in the area. Beautiful surroundings. Lush fairways. Challenging layout. Always makes for a enjoyable round.
3rd time playing in 3 straight weeks and I’ve not had a GPS in the cart that works. Come on guys - if you offer the ability make sure they all work. Sucks!
Good course but punched greens
Overall a good course but recently punched/extensively works on the greens. Paid full price and wasn’t told about the greens. It was impossible to putt in this condition with overgrown grass and punch marks on every single green. I understand the course needs maintenance but that should have been known when booking.
Great course, great value
Course was in fantastic condition, weather was hot but it is August in Texas! Several scenic vistas with a creek running through the property. Excellent value for the money. Will definitely play again!
A Definite
Will be returning to this one, ranks up there with one of the most fun I’ve played in a while. Just be ready to plan and place your shots in order to prep for the next t one. One green was in bad shape but they told us when checking in, other than that the fairways and greens were in perfect shape.
If you have a Hill Country Passbook it's an excellent value.
Vaaler Creek is one of my favorite courses. Always in good shape. Not too challenging not to ease. Always feel good when I get done.
Always great!
One of the best courses in the San Antonio area. Always in pristine condition. Well worth the one-hour drive.
Lost a little bit of pristine
Vaaler has always been a gem tucked deep in the hill country. However this time around, I was a tiny bit disappointed at how some of the tee boxes were in bad shape, and one of the greens was overtaken by a fungus or something, with huge sandy patches because the grass was pretty much dead. The fairways were immaculate and the rough was pretty fluffy and tough to play out of, especially with all the recent rain we've been having. From a player's perspective, the course plays tough, each hole is unique, the greens are tricky, shot shaping is required, and get ready to use most if not all your clubs in the bag. Luckily I was able to break 100, this time. Can't wait to return and hopefully break 90 next.
Thank you for taking the time to review and leave your feedback of your recent round with us. We would like to apologize for any inconvenience you experienced at the course with us.
