Vaaler Creek Golf Club
About
Conveniently located near downtown San Antonio not too far from Austin, Vaaler Creek Golf Club has a memorable layout of gently rolling hills dotted with creeks, ponds and lakes. The course begins with a challenging front nine and then eases up a bit on the back nine, but overall it is a formidable test. The greens are tricky and demanding, especially on the front nine where there are some severe slopes and undulations. The back nine greens are a bit flatter but they still require careful attention. The rolling, contoured fairways are lined with trees and there are deep bunkers strategically guarding the greens, but luckily there are only seventeen of them. Water hazards come into play throughout and there are also several doglegs and blind shots if there wasn’t enough to keep you on your toes.

First Visit
My husband and I were on vacation in San Antonio and decided to drive up to Vaaler Creek near Blanco for a round. The course was in good condition, considering the dry winter. The course layout was comfortably challenging with the water crossings being the prime enemy to a good round. Greens were smooth and moderately fast. Amenities like lunch seemed to be lacking, possibly due to it being a winter Monday, That was not a big issue for us. Would play this course again if we return to the area.
Great Course plenty of challenge
Enjoyed the round. Course was challenging but fun to play. In great condition for winter .
Always Good
We always like to play here. The conditions have always been good. The one thing that is frustrating is the tee boxes. They have no colors to identify the tee boxes so you always have to count from the back tee box what box you are on. Probably not an issue for those who play here every day. Not sure why they can’t dab a bit of blue or white or red paint on the appropriate rocks.
Winter Texan golf
Played 18 holes in 3 hours. Greens are firm but putt true. A must play north up 281.
No longer the gem it was
Used to come here and could play in 3 hours tops. Now it seems the secret is out. Course was in great shape for winter and staff was friendly. I might come back if I can figure out when to shorten the round from 5 hours on a wends.
expensive separate carts
We wanted separate carts as one had a possible exposure recently. We thought $20 extra was a little steep for a weekday on top of the $70 each already paid.
The best thing about the day was having a leisurely hour drive home thru Hill Country (on devil's Backbone on hwy 32) rather than thru some metropolitan rush hour.
Blanco Golf
The greens were excellent exept one green. The course is fun and challenging.
Worth the Drive
I live in Georgetown so the course is a pretty good distance. Bur t it is worth the drive. Excellent conditions and a fairly challenging course. I hope to get back there at least one more time this year. Really enjoyed playing there.
Great greens. Outrageous green fees.
If you don’t mind spending $80 to play around, the golf course is for you. The greens are almost always in fantastic shape. The course is usually moving at a good pace.
Unfortunately they’re closed on Tuesdays.
Grandpa and Grandson Time
Grandson and I have a great time playing Vaaler. Vaaler is fun and challenging!
great course!
Very spread out, would be hard to walk. Have to use street to travel to hole 1. Could use better signage. Driving range not close.
Great experience though! Helped that I played with someone familiar with course.
Plan to return soon!
This course is usually in good shape. It was very windy when I played so the course can be a bit unforgiving and narrow. I’d recommended checking that before. Some of the greens and tee boxes were pretty eaten up but on most other holes they were seemingly fine. The fairways were in great condition
