Vaaler Creek Golf Club
About
Conveniently located near downtown San Antonio not too far from Austin, Vaaler Creek Golf Club has a memorable layout of gently rolling hills dotted with creeks, ponds and lakes. The course begins with a challenging front nine and then eases up a bit on the back nine, but overall it is a formidable test. The greens are tricky and demanding, especially on the front nine where there are some severe slopes and undulations. The back nine greens are a bit flatter but they still require careful attention. The rolling, contoured fairways are lined with trees and there are deep bunkers strategically guarding the greens, but luckily there are only seventeen of them. Water hazards come into play throughout and there are also several doglegs and blind shots if there wasn’t enough to keep you on your toes.

Nice course but slow pace of play
Played in January, so the course was not at its best, but tee boxes, fairways and greens were in good shape. Course offers a lot of Hot Deals on GolfNow so it was busy on an early Wednesday afternoon. Waited several minutes on most tees and in the fairway. Quit after 9 holes because it was too slow.
Nice Course
This is the 5th time I have played Vaaler and enjoyed playing it again. Course was in very good condition considering the time of the year.
Only issue I had was the amount of 5-somes on the course. They were relatively fast but still holding up a foursome. Martial said there was only one 5 some on the course but when we continued playing we ran into another 4 groups that had 5 people.
With this being a Sunday with a 1 pm tee off expect to have delays as the local golfers that belong to this club obviously get priority on what they want to do!
Nice course off beaten path
We have played Vaaler Creek three or four times now. It is a nice course with just about the right amount of difficulty. The most challenging hole for me is 18 because of the carry over the water to the green. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We have not used the food options as we always go into Blanco for BBQ. The only negative (and this is definitely not a show stopper) is that the practice range is quite a distance from the pro shop and from the first tee. All in all we really look forward to playing here once or twice a year. (we live in Austin)
Vaaler Delivers
It had been a while since I had made the trip up 281 to Vaaler Creek. The course always delivers great golf. The contrast looks wonderful. Conditions for January couldn’t be better. All the recent course renovations are now finished and look fantastic. The secret of such a great course is out because the pace can suffer a bit, but it’s well worth playing.

Beautiful course always enjoyable
Always in great condition love this course. Pace was extra slow today and no marshal to help but still enjoyed it.
Top Shelf Experience
This course is always amongst my top 2-3 public courses in the Hill Country. The course is in great shape. Golfers seem to “leave the course in better shape than they found it”, as there was not a single ball mark on any of the 18 greens and there were very few divots that didn’t contain replacement sand. There is sufficient challenge for golfers of all skill level given the distances from each set of tees, hazards, and general layout. Overall, a great experience.
Great design and fast true greens
Loved this place! Even though the much of the grass was dormant it was in great shape. We had a frost delay but everything was handled great. Lots of deer on the course. I drove 1 hour from Austin/Lakeway and was well worth it! Play this place.
A must-play course
This is a challenging, but fair course layout. The fairways are reasonably forgiving and we’re in great shape. The greens rolled true and were quick. This is one of my top two Hill Country favorite courses ... a must-play.
TOC QUALITY/Half the cost
I’ve played Vaaler many times. Today I hosted my golf buddy to his 74th bitty. First time he played.. He loved it.
Course is in great shape. Only one of the open to public courses in The area that offers on course beverage carts. Staff are extremely helpful and courteous.
This is my favorite course in the San Antonio area.
Worth the drive.
Challenging course
Always a challenge to play, but not extremely difficult. Do need to keep it in play to score well. Enjoy playing the course, always in good shape.
Great course in Texas hill country
Although a ways out of town, this course is worth the trip. Especially in an area with limited golf courses. Beautiful scenery and a few challenging holes.
