Vaaler Creek Golf Club
About
Conveniently located near downtown San Antonio not too far from Austin, Vaaler Creek Golf Club has a memorable layout of gently rolling hills dotted with creeks, ponds and lakes. The course begins with a challenging front nine and then eases up a bit on the back nine, but overall it is a formidable test. The greens are tricky and demanding, especially on the front nine where there are some severe slopes and undulations. The back nine greens are a bit flatter but they still require careful attention. The rolling, contoured fairways are lined with trees and there are deep bunkers strategically guarding the greens, but luckily there are only seventeen of them. Water hazards come into play throughout and there are also several doglegs and blind shots if there wasn’t enough to keep you on your toes.

AMAZING! MUST PLAY!
This course is an hour drive for me, but totally worth it. The fairways and greens were in immaculate shape. Love the layout. Paid 45 and TOTALLY worth it. Will definitely be back!
Worth the drive
Tee to green conditions were excellent for this time of year. Bunkers on some holes are undergoing renovations and are unplayable is the reason for 4 stars instead of 5. Pace of play was a bit slow due to weekend traffic. Cart girl was very friendly and efficient. Beautiful drive thru the hill country to get to this gem!
From all over Texas
Met my family from all over Texas to play a round of golf at VC. Challenging and an enjoyable time. Greens were hard to read and not too fast. Several bunkers were under repair due to recent rains. GPS units on carts would disable the cart when approaching what I am guessing were areas too close to the greens or to protected rough areas. No warning signs... so be aware of this. Fairways were plush. Enjoy!
anyday of golf is better than work
vaaler creek is a delight to play with a variety of shot making holes the course conditions are great the wintergrass is coming in well and the greens are rolling true, it was wet the day we were there and it was cart path only, no big deal, good management, only knock was the bunkers were out of play due to recent rains, yahoo i don't like em anyhow !!!
Course in Great Shape
Always great playing Vaaler Creek. The new winter seeding has taken and tee boxes, fairways and greens are emerald green. It's a must play course!
Great Little Gem
We played Vaaler Creek after playing some other courses in the San Antonio area over the weekend. I can honestly say Vaaler made the rest look average. Course was in great shape after just coming out of an overseed. The greens were a little sanded still but played good. Staff was friendly in the pro shop and grill area. The drive between the pro shop, driving range and hole 1 is a little long and one could get lost. I would definitely play there again.
Fun layout
Played this course a few times and it's always enjoyable, got behind a tournament today, but usually not too slow. Quirky layout with fairly undulating greens, but as usual the conditions were great.
Fun course
Great course with fun layout. Greens, fairways, tee boxes r all n perfect condition. Every hole is beautiful and interesting. Every green is a fun challenge. The GPS system makes it super fun to play! Wish it was closer to where we stay but worth the 50 minute drive.
Better Master the Greens!
You must putt well to do well. There are a few holes that require smart positioning. Tough layout that requires constant focus. Really enjoy this course!!
Course is in Incredible shape
Excellent course. It is in phenomenal shape. Would put this on list of courses to play again next time in the hill country.
Beautiful but Tough
This course is in great shape. Very impressed of condition with the Texas heat. Course is tough. Better be sure of your club and aim. No room for error. Saw some deer as well. Definitely a hidden gem.
Beautiful golf course
Well maintained, good grass everywhere, lots of water holes, do not recommend walking. Cart gps is best i have used, each hole has a paragraph "Tip" for first time players. Tell risks and reward on each hole. Beverage carts are frequent. Greens are fast, big and undulating. Huge bunkers. Visually beautiful course.
My first time experience was as good as it gets. This course is worth the drive, located off hwy 281 just south of Blanco ,Tx. 2 mi. off hwy in land development parcel. Play it once and you will want to come back. I played on Friday, pace of play was excellent.
Hidden Gem in the Hill Country
Outstanding golf right here in the Texas Hill Country. Minutes from Canyon Lake and right between Austin and San Antonio. Very challenging and in great condition always. GPS right in the cart.
Vaaler Effort
Vaaler Creek is in perfect condition from tee to green. You must be sure you yourself are willing to bring a valient effort as your skill and mind will be tested. Every hole is a new challenge - each one requires a well placed tee shot, approach, and putt. However, if you are like me an the ball does not always conceed to your desires, you can still enjoy making some great recovery shots! I trully enjoy the challenge Vaaler Creek presents.
Awesome.
If your wondering whether you should make the trip to go visit Valeer.... take my advice and go! You will not regret taking a tee time at this hidden gem. I would make the 50 mile trip again and again if I could. Staff was amazing, course was in excellent shape with fluffy fairways and greens that rolled true. Bring an extra sleeve of balls and a camera.
Outstanding course conditions!
Vaaler Creek GC has been a little gem tucked away in the beautiful Texas hill country for awhile now, although I've only known of its existence for a few years now. Even in these hot, dry conditions the greens rolled true, and the fairways were pristine. The design was challenging; many approaches were to greatly elevated targets and some landing areas off the tee seemed dauntingly narrow. Overall, Vaaler Creek was a challenging track worth every dollar in the modest green fee. It is also conveniently close to the Real Ale Brewery tap room- minutes away.
Get the greens back
Good layout but plays tough because of fairway slopes and firmness. The greens were aerated 4 weeks ago and they are still miserable to play on. The biggest complaint is the speed difference between greens - some slow some fast. The back nine has a tendency to be much slower than the front, in general.
Great course, great value
One one my favorite courses close to San Antonio. Always in great condition, plenty of availability, and if you choose the right tee time, great value and not overcrowded.
