Vaaler Creek Golf Club

About
Conveniently located near downtown San Antonio not too far from Austin, Vaaler Creek Golf Club has a memorable layout of gently rolling hills dotted with creeks, ponds and lakes. The course begins with a challenging front nine and then eases up a bit on the back nine, but overall it is a formidable test. The greens are tricky and demanding, especially on the front nine where there are some severe slopes and undulations. The back nine greens are a bit flatter but they still require careful attention. The rolling, contoured fairways are lined with trees and there are deep bunkers strategically guarding the greens, but luckily there are only seventeen of them. Water hazards come into play throughout and there are also several doglegs and blind shots if there wasn’t enough to keep you on your toes.

greens have fungus, avoid playing this course
used to be a great course, greens had fungus all over them, tee boxes were terrible. i don't see these greens coming back any time soon, i would avoid playing for the price they charge. no prior warning about the greens and no discounted price.
Great course greens were terrible
I have been playing this course for years this is first time the greens were this bad large dead spots on most greens

Greens are unputtable
All of the greens have fungus issues and six or seven have 30 to 50% of the grass gone. Too bad. It’s a great layout. Hope they can save them.

Worst (unplayable) greens and tee boxes in Hill Country
Greens #2, 3, 12, 14, 17 are basically unplayable. Large bare areas and where there is grass it’s very patchy and bumpy. All greens have issues but these are the worst. Temp greens in the fairways would be better. Shame—used to be a great course. Tee boxes are also terrible—almost all are just dirt. Practice green, practice bunker and driving range are also in bad shape. Going downhill—fast! Save your money and play somewhere else. Spraying green die on dirt seems to be the superintendent’s solution.

Greens are bare and dying.
Over the last two months the greens have gone from pretty good to the worst I’ve ever seen. Most have huge (most of the surface) bare dirt spots and the patches of grass that are left are bumpy and diseased looking. Multiple greens appear to also have algae or fungus. The course has gone from one of the better Hill Country condition courses to by far the worst. Save your money and play somewhere else.

It could have been better.
I am a Viet Nam Disabled Vet. I was told that the cart that I used had some sort of technical advancement that a Disabled Flag was not necessary and that I could get close to the green but not too close. The alarm went off immediately when approached any green and I wasn't able to get closer to the greens than were other players without this cart enhancement. It made my day more painful than I wanted. OH well, I guess it could have been worse. I think there could have been more cold-water dispensers given the heat was hovering around 95 to 100 degrees. The course is well maintained but challenging. I won't come back unless my skills improve and management makes better offerings for disabled players.
Green conditions
The greens were in awful shape. A lot of bare spots and a very bumpy surface.
Golfing is always a good day!
We love this course. It is challenging but not impossible. Fairways conditions and course in general is nearly always great. This week the greens looked a little burnt or something, not sure what was up but also not usual for Vaaler.
We will be back soon!
Vaaler
Course is in great shape. As good as you’re going to find in the area anywhere remotely close to their price point. Director of Golf is awesome. Great course.
Good track
Challenging course. Well maintained. Evil breaks on greens. Slight ding for proximity of houses in reachable locations.
Fun, challenging, and great conditions
Played here about a year ago and it was in awesome shape. The course is somehow in better shape right now.
Perfect conditions and a true challenge. Lots of courses never give you the chance to hit certain clubs in your bag. This is not the case at Vaaler Creek.
Highly recommend this course if you can find a tee time.
Vaalar Creek: Very Solid - well conditioned
Vaalar Creek is very solid and greens are interesting and in fantastic shape. A handful of very good holes and some very basic ones. Greens make the course…very solid value and made for an enjoyable day at the links.
Beautiful Course
This course is in excellent condition. Lots of water hazards! Fun and challenging.
Excellent first 9 holes back 9 disappointing
First 9 great only saw a few people came up on #10 and was very disappointed to find 6 carts having a 9 hole league tournament we should have been told about this by club house or starter before we started
Great Course! No Cart Girl
Excellent course! However the only negative was there wasn’t a cart girl. It was a lost opportunity for the course to generate some revenue in my opinion . Definitely will be back , course was in awesome shape and well taken care of!
Great round - Great value
Fun tract with challenging greens. It’s in great shape and the staff was awesome.
