About

Holes 18
Type Public
Par 72
Length 7174 yards
Slope 139
Rating 74.2

Located just 15 minutes northeast of downtown Austin, ShadowGlen Golf Course is considered by locals to be one of the area's hidden gems. At 7,174 yards from the back tees, it is a long, tough course that will test even the most seasoned players. Some consider it to be the most difficult public golf course in Texas. The layout has a links design that is mostly flat but there are a few hilly spots that can cause some trouble, especially the holes that were designed with steep drops. The narrow fairways require accuracy and the well manicured greens play fast and are often bordered by strategically placed bunkers or contoured mounding. There are also water hazards coming into play throughout, including the wandering creek that cuts across the golf course.

Same ol slow play

As always, Shadowglen refuses to use course marshals to speed up play. Another 5 hour round and no marshal seen on a Saturday. Multiple times we had to wait as the group in front of us teed off

Marshalls

Aren't Marshall's supposed to inform a group of players to keep up with pace? Seems like the group in front of group been taking their time, and actually removed my group's player's ball....from the green after shooting from the driver line.... (Par 4). It really pushed me and my friend off.

Poor communication

Little did I know, there was a 60 man tournament that was set to tee 10 minutes before the public. Would’ve liked a heads up from the course. Also wet like a marsh on half the fairways

Wet, Wet, Wet and slow greens

Due to overseeing, the course was extremely wet. The greens on the front side were very wet and slow. Overall, they were very slow and you had to pound the ball. I fear my next put on a real green! Some of the fairways were similarly wet. The ball did not roll at all.

I realize this is a short term condition but there was no warning about this, it really affected the overall experience, and my scores in the rating.

Second time playing and enjoying

Great course, challenging and fun at the same time, greens were in great shape for mid October. Tee boxes could’ve used a little trimming.

Mediocre

Not bad. Not good. But it was golf and that made it fun. Course was wet and sloppy. Not intuitive and no yardage book made it tough to know lay up spots.

Ethan, sorry you did not have the best experience. We are growing in our winter rye grass so we have to water more the usual for the next week. We have plans to mark the course better this winter. Hope you come back and give us another shot.

Great course conditions, no Marshall.

Overall the course was in great condition, a couple muddy spots but what else can you expect in mid October. Tee time was for 2:46pm and couldn’t finish hole 18 due to slow pace of play with no one to enforce slow playing. Apparently the Marshall generally leaves around 4, so I was told. But we finished playing around 7pm. Not to mention it was 90° with zero cart girl making her rounds after passing us on the first hole. Come early and prepared, you’ll enjoy the course much more with the nice greens.

Last Time Playing here

Typically I am extremely generous with my ratings and acclaim given to golf courses. Here's a stark reality for ShadowGlen.

70 dollars to play on a Saturday morning that had crabgrass all over the fairway, Unmanicured holes whether it be the transition from fairway to rough or tee box to fairway. The tee boxes had 4 inch grass. bald and dead spots all over the holes, and a terrible water irrigation system that just caused extremely soggy and mushy fairways.

If they lowered the cost to 40-50$$ it would definitely soften the blow.

It's pretty obvious this course (and most others) use Austins increasingly golf popularity to put up overpriced tee times. Typically you need to book 3-4 days in advanced just to get a tee time you're looking for and each course in Austin will fill up completely.

Advice: If youre going to leverage the bustle of Austin, increasing golf interest, and sheer reservation tee time scarcity to charge higher tee time prices, atleast put the work in to try to make the course look better than a Muni in North Dakota during the winter.

Excellent golf today

Thoroughly enjoyed the round. Shot a little over my norm. Still really nice conditions and pace of play. Did not have to wait on a single tee all day.

Nice course/ opportunities

I enjoy playing this course. I am new to golf and it is conveniently located. There are some opportunities with drainages specifically at Hole 2 behind the bunkers. There is an area with stagnant water and weeds that look like they need to be managed.

Nice course in great condition

Given the heat and drought conditions, the course was in really good shape. The greens were rolling true and the fairways weren't rock hard like some other area courses. As it was Monday and very hot, the course wasn't crowded and I played quickly as a solo. The more I play this course, the more I like it.

Good Value, Good Course

Course Condition: Solid - it was end of August. Most TX courses are dirt around now. I was happy w conditions.

Pace was great. Not much pressure on course, but highs were 100d today. Still, even in this heat, a lot of TX courses are packed and slow.

Good beer selection but clubhouse diner was sub-par. Friendly people, but this isn’t where you hang out w golf friends.
