Four Mile Ranch Golf Club sprawls across a stunning landscape of gently rolling hills. The layout closely follows the natural contours of the terrain and doesn't use any formal bunkers, in their place are white shale ridges called hogbacks. They can range anywhere in height from 3 to 30 feet and they're not even the golf course's only distinctive feature. The layout winds through natural rock outcropping and a number of mini canyons. It's as challenging as it is scenic, though, with several blind shots and intimidating greens, none of which are more daunting than that on the memorable par-5 sixth. This tough green is obscured by huge rocks, testing not only your skills but also your ability to strategize. Four Mile Ranch G.C. offers a golf experience like none other in the area.

Why no improvements

We have played Four Mile each summer for the last 5 years. Rates during summer are $60+ a player. Rarely a cart girl. NO marshals. No driving range most of this summer. Worst of all? No club house nor any foreseeable plans to build one.

Why are there no improvements over the years. The potential for the course to be a Colorado staple is phenomenal. Minus so many blind greens that handcuff higher handicap players.

Novice Challenge

Took my long time players, father and Uncle to first time round at FM. We loved the play, the course, and the challenge. The course conditions were good, considering southern Colorado dry conds. Pace was good, price for winter, great, parking an issue, as you cant take carts to your vehicle. We liked the carts with lunch box/cooler, and a ball/club washer...cool! Thx Four Mile. We'll be back.

Clown show

A beautiful day for golf on an extremely fun course was marred by incredibly slow play. On the second hole, we noticed eight people on the fourth tee box. At first we figured it was a backup … and then all eight left the box together. A ranger told us that several senior couples were actually slowing play, and that the EIGHTSOME knew they needed to keep pace or split into foursomes. The round took forever, waiting on the tee box and fairway. The one consistent factor was the EIGHTSOME. As far as the ranger, there was no sign of him the rest of the day. When the EIGHTSOME was on the 16th green, there were no players on 17 or 18. So - shocker! - the EIGHTSOME seemed to be slowing up play. The round took 5 hours, 15 minutes and one in our group had to leave early. This horrible experience was completely avoidable had the clown show been shut down right away. Ridiculous.

Great course

My Son and l were visiting my Daughter in the Fountain. We usually play at Desert Hawk when we’re down there because it’s not crowded. I found 4 Mile on Golf Now. It was an easy hour drive.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The course was amazing. So many little quirks. Luckily we were paired with two regulars. I highly recommend playing with someone who knows the course. Lots of blind shots to greens that have big swells. Hit the ball in the right place and it rolls down to the pin. Miss your spots and a four putt is possible. We’ll play there every time we’re down there.

Can’t wait to play it again !

Hilly, desert course but fun

Overall, a very nice course. Greens were surprisingly slow and pins were placed nicely. The tee boxes could be cut shorter though. A fun course but tough to walk.

Transition happening. . .

Booked this for my wife & I for 2:10 TT. No monitoring or starter to control play. Several groups went off early as “it’s open now”. We played behind a 4some with beginners and waited every hole and almost every shot. Great views but very gimmicky. Multiple holes are blind and some have “aiming posts”. One hole ok, five is a bit much. No marshals and even though there is an 18 hole booklet with hole layouts it is very hard to determine where to hit it on several blind holes. Beautiful course but way to gimmicky for my tastes. Also there are no real facilities. Pro shop is in a trailer, no water on course, bathrooms on course are port a potty’s, and there are no weather cover stations at all. This is Colorado and the storms do roll through and did while we played. There seems to be an ownership issue at this point in time so things seem in flux. Overall fun but you’d need to play this course several times in order to know how to play it.

Hidden gem!

Keep it in the fairway. Once we knew to drive up and see where to place the ball things went much better.

Great Couse

This is a Jim Engh designed course. Uses the natural contours of the land very well and has great views from some of the tees. No bunkers on entire course , but there are a few holes that are completely blind. Hle 15 made Golf Digest best public holes in America.
