Four Mile Ranch Golf Club
About
Four Mile Ranch Golf Club sprawls across a stunning landscape of gently rolling hills. The layout closely follows the natural contours of the terrain and doesn't use any formal bunkers, in their place are white shale ridges called hogbacks. They can range anywhere in height from 3 to 30 feet and they're not even the golf course's only distinctive feature. The layout winds through natural rock outcropping and a number of mini canyons. It's as challenging as it is scenic, though, with several blind shots and intimidating greens, none of which are more daunting than that on the memorable par-5 sixth. This tough green is obscured by huge rocks, testing not only your skills but also your ability to strategize. Four Mile Ranch G.C. offers a golf experience like none other in the area.

Great course
This course is in great condition for this time of year. Beautiful scenery, fairly wide fairways and very challenging greens.
No club house
I like the course and have played the Four Mile about 10 times. Good condition for Mid March.
Can be a Jekyll and Hyde
Have played this course about a dozen times. Overall I like it for its layout and varied lengths, depending on which set of tees used. What I don't like is the number of blind approach shots on the par 3's and par 5's. 5-7 depending on where the pin is and where you are on the fairway. If you can't hit straight leave your driver in the bag. The greens vary from easy (bowl shaped) to ridiculously undulated (automatic 3 putt). Lastly, they have substituted large shale hills for fairway sand traps penalizing a good shot if you hit behind or on one of these things. I seriously doubt the designer intended this.
Play-able and fun
An interesting design, course should be played more than once to appreciate the design and unique greens/ layout. I and my partner will play again.
Too tricked up to be playable
This course is to tricked up to be playable. Blind tea shots, blind approach shots, can't see the par five greens from the tea, need to bulldoze it and start over!
Great Place to Play...Always Lots of Fun
For January in Colorado, the course is in great shape and very fun to play. The staff is very friendly and I will be back to play again and highly recommend to anyone to go play this fun course. The greens are very fun to putt on, so it will take additional rounds to get to know the course and greens. Well worth the trip and the price was right.
Diamond in The Rough & Sleeper
First let me say the only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because the clubhouse is not much more than a trailer house parked on a dusty parking lot, no restaurant/bar. But do not let that scare you away, just bring an ice chest with your favorite beverage and snacks. What it lacks in facilities is made up by a great course.
I was vacationing in the area for 2 weeks, played everyday from Denver to Canyon City. I played this course twice which speaks for itself. 36 holes on day one, and 36 on second trip
Fist time I played it was a bit put frustrated because there are so many blind shots off the tee and some approach shots. It is a very challenging course if you are not familiar with the layout. But the course and green are in great shape. Some do not like the greens because of the undulations and they are slick but will hold a iron shot like a lawn dart.
Having said that once you play it once, you know where to hit. It is not your typical country club traditional type course. Very much like Phoenix and Las Vegas Desert golf courses. Get off the fairways and you are in raw high desert rocks and sand.
Pace of play is excellent 3 hours or less each of the four rounds. Best of all is the price paid. I paid $40 for first 18, and $25 for second 18 with a cart.
Only negative thing I can say about the course is it is not for hackers. You do not have to be long as there are tee boxes for any age, but you must be able to hit it fairly straight and pick a landing area. If you are a Slicer or hooker it is going to be a long day loosing a lot of balls.
I will be back in July 2015. Cannot wait to play this course again and will play it at least two days.
Hope that helps.

Four Mile Ranch, always a great time and deal
For December, when it could be very windy and cold, the winds were moderate to light and the temperature was in the 50 to 60 degree range. Greens are still in great shape and although the fairways and rough are browning a little, still pretty lush. The drive from Colorado Springs is well worth it. Hope to play many more times this winter. The HOT DEAL on Golfnow made it an even better deal. And 3 dollar beers from the (modular) "Pro Shop"...can't beat that deal either! GO PLAAAAAAY!
Wonderful course
I would recommend and do recommend this course to everyone meet that golf. This course is probably one of the best courses in the area. I travel from the Springs to play and its worth every mile to get there. The course is always in such great shape year round. I love also that you can play this course in the middle of winter and it still is in perfect shape.
Only thing I would say is it would be nice to have an area to sit after a nice round of golf to have a beer or two with friends to talk about the round. Also even have a hot dog machine so on the turn some folks could grab a bite to eat.
Most fun I've had on a course in a while!
Course was in great shape! But be prepared for a) target golf to specific landing zones and b) blind approaches. I was blessed with 3 locals that knew the course well. Without them I would have been lost but with them-Tremendous! The course is a bit eclectic with lots of hard doglegs and REALLY undulating greens. The pro wasn't kidding when he said, "WE have a lot of dead elephants buried out here." There are some 4-foot humps in some of the greens! But the greens were receptive and FAST! I can't wait to come back! (Yes, the pro shop is tiny but who cares? They make up for it on the course!)
Mountain meets desert
The most enjoyable, unique and different course you might ever play. It's in the middle of nowhere. Parking lot is dirt, clubhouse is a trailer, driving range grass is nice but not where you hit to. The course is like a desert and mountain combination. Miss the fairway and you are in rocks, scrub, etc. Major green undulation with most looking like bowls. Many have 3 distinct sections - hit the right one and you are guaranteed a short putt - miss the proper section and it's like putt putt. Overall course condition was great! Incredible views and elevation changes. Our only complaint is we called the day before to ask specifically about green aeration. They said the greens were in great shape and would not be aerating for months. Only problem was they had aerated the week before. They rolled very true in most cases but some greens were effected but the holes. It's a very fun course and very unique.
Gem
I played this course 2x this week, it was my first time out there. I'm so glad, I didn't let the drive from co springs deter me. Hats off to the group of people that have this course going, thank you for putting the money into the grass rather than clubhouse! The greens, tees, fairways, rough are all perfect! Truest rolling greens I've ever played on, I was draining 10 footers with ease for two days straight. Each hole has its own character and every single hole is memorable, the second time around I felt as if I knew every hole already after only one round. The first time around will take awhile because of blind shots and shot determination, took me 6.5 hours to shoot a 76, but I made every shot matter which took a lot of excess driving back and forth to check things out. Second time around only took me 3.5 hours and I was able to beat the course putting up a 69, thanks greenskeeper for keeping things really tight. Anyways this is my new go to when I make my visits to Colorado Springs.
Worth the drive (50 min. From Co. springs Co.
Course is fairly new, It doesn't have a grill or bar and I didn't see a beverage cart, but the course is great, the greens are very challenging .Had a great time, and would definitely love to go again soon.
Review
I had the course to myselfin the afternoon. Great condition. Next time I will bring yellow balls that are easier to see against the white background.
Excellent Experience
The front 9 was fun. The back 9 was spectacular! The fairways were like carpet, the greens intensely undulating and made for some creative thinking . Highly recommend.
Don't let first impressions fool you....
This course is actually a fun track. I can see though how it would turn some people off. There are a decent amount of blind shots which if you have not played it before could really frustrate someone.
I was a single player which I like so I can focus more. Looking at it now I was soooo lucky to be paired with two players who knew the course very well. If not by the 6th hole I may have walked off.
There are a number of blind shots on this course, but once you figure out how to play the course it is very fun and you can score very well on it.
I would recommend this course to others, but if you have not played it before and not paired with someone who has, it may frustrate you or you may love it.
Me, having played it now and know, I really like it. If you drive the ball straight and get on the right elevation of the green you will have one of your better scoring days.
Staff:
Very nice and friendly. Rangers are very nice and will give you pointers if needed.
Facilites:
Not much to speak of honestly. No clubhouse, just a trailer that has a very tiny one person desk for check in. The carts seemed slow but they worked just fine.
The driving range, well you are hitting off grass. The range is actually a rocky desert. The balls are fairly old but work to stretch out. There are buckets you can try to hit which was fun. When you check in and get range balls you will handed a bucket and you fill it up outside the trailer. I will note there was ranges balls available at the range also when I played.
Course:
This is where the money is spent. The course was in excellent condition. There is pretty good elevation to the course, more so on the back 9. Views to be seen and elevation change that makes tee shots look really cool.
The greens and blind shots are what is interesting or frustrating on this course.
Greens, well lets just say this might be the first course I played you have 2-3-4 options on how to make your putt. The greens have multiple tiers and there is some serious elevation and slope difference. More so on the front 9. All the tiers are bowls and if you hit the right elevation you will typically have an easy putt. A few greens had 4' + rises in them.
The back 9 greens started to play closer to traditional greens, or so it seemed coming from the front greens.
Blind shots... actually will frustrate people I am sure. There is 4-5 holes that are completely blind or partial. Not like a tree blocking you out, but a 15-20 hill that the green is behind. There are markers, black and white candy striped that indicate the center of green location. Small wooden arms to point the if the green is left or right side of the green. Lucky the yardages play true so you hit, hope, pray your shot is right.
Kudos GolfNow
Initially there was some sort of Mix up in reservations...but GolfNow and Steve made things Right.
Course was in Excellent shape as usual, it was mid day, so a little warm but all in all...Perfect.
The Greens as usual, challenge you to be creative and think outside the box.
I'll be back.
Lots of blind shots.
This course was in immaculate condition. However don't expect to shot a good score if it's your first time playing. Half the holes have blind shots and 75% have extremely sloped greens. Staff was very friendly however there is no pro shop to speak of. I left my glove at home on accident and they only had mediums so I just played without one.
Fossil Trace on Steroids
I was very impressed by the incredible course conditions at Four Mile Ranch considering how dire the financial status appears to be around the project and the facilities.
The staff was very friendly and maintenance workers were very courteous when I played holes they were manicuring.
I can't wait to play the course for a second time because the blind shots and hidden greens AND the roller coaster structure of most of the greens added some scoring frustration to a fairly well designed and absolutely gorgeous course and setting.
One simply needs to know what most of the greens look like up close to make reasonable club and shot selections from long distances away.
