Four Mile Ranch Golf Club
About
Four Mile Ranch Golf Club sprawls across a stunning landscape of gently rolling hills. The layout closely follows the natural contours of the terrain and doesn't use any formal bunkers, in their place are white shale ridges called hogbacks. They can range anywhere in height from 3 to 30 feet and they're not even the golf course's only distinctive feature. The layout winds through natural rock outcropping and a number of mini canyons. It's as challenging as it is scenic, though, with several blind shots and intimidating greens, none of which are more daunting than that on the memorable par-5 sixth. This tough green is obscured by huge rocks, testing not only your skills but also your ability to strategize. Four Mile Ranch G.C. offers a golf experience like none other in the area.

Blind Golf
Had a great time playing some holes where I could not see 30 yards from the green. Greens were slow, which was totally necessary, because some had 5 foot hills in the middle. Very unique and fun.
Great course and cool staff
Great views. Great course and cool staff made this a great day of golf.
Fun course... but always windy.
Expect wind.. a lot of wind. Cool layout. Fun course. The greens were in good condition but a pretty slow. The tee boxes were trash. Uncut, like tee it up out of the rough, even on par 3s. Everything else was solid!
Would have been very good except I got called to a family emergency only played nine
4 mile ranch
Great layout and pace was great. Due to Covid however bring your own food and drink as there’s nothing available as far as refreshments
This is a fantastic course and worth the trip from Denver
Loved this course, so much fun and Jim Engh simply does not get enough credit for this and the other fantastic courses he has created in Colorado, especially with everyone on a minimalist mindset of course creation recently. Lot's of interesting twists and turns, love the greens rolling all over place and just make sure you are on the right tier or life will be interesting.
Tons of fun!
Very unique design makes for a super fun round of golf! I should have hit irons off the tee the majority of the time. Off the fairway and into the surrounding desert landscape means lost balls or horrible lies on rocky, hard dirt. Bowl greens make for a lot of excitement.
Always fun; worth the drive
This course is a gem. Great pace, conditioning, layout, scenery, and value. Have played it at least a dozen times and almost always face a shot or a putt that I haven't encountered before.
Some call the course gimmicky because of roller-coaster greens, doglegs into canyons and a couple of blind shots, but I think it's a blast. Architect Jim Engh knew what he was doing. There's more room off the tee than it appears, and pin placement can alter strategy--some hole locations are challenging; others are easy to access via backstops and lateral banks.
Pace is almost always great. This round had as much waiting as I've encountered, as they had shoe-horned some players into a back-nine start and had to work them back into first-tee traffic, but I still finished in 3.5 hours on a Saturday.
My only quibble with this round was that my cart was missing the pin-rotation guide, which makes a difference! They have adjusted for winter (and/or Covid) by pre-cutting 3 hole locations on each green, with covers over each day's unused holes. Haven't noticed that in the past.
The course is all about the golf--no restaurant or locker room, and just a trailer for a shop. All the better for Covid conditions. Bring your own beverages and snacks.
This round was a rare near-windless day in Canon City. Afternoon rounds at Four Mile can be windy, but the views near sunset on the back nine are spectacular.
Course is scoreable, but it isn't for players who struggle to get the ball airborne. For moderate-to-good players, it's well worth the one-hour drive from Colorado Springs and maybe even the two-hour drive from Denver, especially when the weather is iffy up north.
A great day at Four Mile
If you haven't played Four Mile you are missing out on a really fun and challenging course. This course will eat your lunch including desert unless you are on your game. With the layout, it feels like you are at altitude because you hit off of tee boxes on the side of the hill down into the valley below on a number of holes. Out of bounds is: "a lost ball don't waste your time looking" on a number of holes but that is part of the fun and the challenge. Many of the greens are very challenging "bowls" that will make your shot onto the green more important than the average course. The holes with the "bowl" effect will really test your ability to read a green as well. Bottom line: this course is a great change of pace if you are used to playing on the courses in Pueblo or Colorado Springs....this course plays like a Mountain Course but is conveniently located close to Pueblo and even Colorado Springs. If you are up for a challenge you will be hard pressed to find a better course in the immediate area.
Crazy fun
If you’ve never played here, do yourself a favor and go. It’s unique in so many ways. The staff was awesome the morning we went, offering a bucket of balls and a yardage book. While the driving range is dreadful, the rest of the course is in good shape and so much fun to play. The greens were true but slow on the day we went. To get this course at its finest, catch it on a day where the greens are slick. Can’t wait to visit again!
fun, desert course
we enjoyed the four mile ranch course. The staff was friendly. They could have provided a little more information at check-in since we were first timers. (ie where the first tee is or any of the other policies) The starter got us a yardage book, which was helpful. The sprinklers on the course turned on unexpectedly a couple of times, but it was hot the day we played, so it was refreshing. Glad we checked out the course, and would come back if we're in the area another time!
Nice course!
Desert type course with several blind shots into the greens. Weather was perfect and pace of play was good. Really enjoyed playing this course!
Unique Layout; Challenging Greens
We travel from Denver to Canon City every year to play this hidden gem. The course has a very unique layout..... It winds through the foothills, and has a number of blind shots. Stunning views. The greens are very challenging, especially if you land in the wrong quadrant. Very undulating, with severe breaks. No clubhouse or restaurant (just a trailer), so bring your own food. Good value. Would highly recommend to intermediate or advanced golfers (not beginners).
