Country Club of Silver Springs Shores
About
Opened in 1969, the Country Club at Silver Springs Shores has been host to a variety of mini-tour and U.S. Open Section qualifying events. It is known for having some of the fastest and most severe greens in the area. Desmond Muirhead, a longtime associate of Jack Nicklaus, designed the golf course, giving it a different character on the front and back nines. The first half of the golf course is a traditional parkland layout that mixes native trees and wide-open meadows. The back nine is a true Florida-style golf course with water coming into play on six holes. Country Club at Silver Springs Shores finishes with one of its toughest water holes, a par 5 starts with an intimidating tee shot past a massive lake that wraps around the landing area. Many locals consider Silver Springs Shores to be one of the best public golf courses in the Ocala area.

Pretty good course.
Greens were beautiful, but fairways were hard as a patio grass. Neat course with a good balance of hazards
Pace of play
Played Saturday morning and they had tee times 6 minutes apart. Had to wait about 10 minutes on every hole! The condition of this costs are declining rapidly
Bring your own TP
I hate to start a review about a golf course with a comment about bathrooms but honestly they are horrible. They should just invest in some port a potty’s. The 2 bathrooms are falling apart. No toilet paper or paper towels. One had a nest where an animal was living in the wall. It’s a long course. Nature will call. How hard is it to maintain four bathrooms?
On another note the course itself was in great shape. The tee boxes, fairways and greens were in great shape.
Only the greens are nice.
It was hardly recognize the country club, The restrooms in the golf shop, Drive range, Drive range balls, Course Restroom are horrible conditions.
Must play
Great course. Super greens. Just a great course to play.
GREAT COURSE FOR THE MONEY
JUST LOVE REVIEWING COURSES ALWAYS TRY TO BE OBJECTIVE TRIED THIS COURSE FOR THE FIRST TIME, DROVE OVER ONE HOUR TO GET HERE I THINK YOU SHOULD TAKE A CHANCE AND PLAY HERE FRIENDLY STAFF ,GREAT LAYOUT OK THE BATHROOMS ON THE COURSE ARE NOT THE HILTON BUT YOU COULD LIVE WITH THEM ,GREENS WERE PERFECT, FAIRWAYS HAD A THIN LAYER OF GRASS ON THEM JUST OVER ALL I LOVED THIS COURSE GO TRY IT IT WILL BE A NICE DAY OH BY THE WAY THE RESTAURANT WAS GOOD
Great Day of Golf
Course was very good considering the amount of rain the day before. Greens were soft most of the bunkers had standing water, but overall a good. Look forward to our next outing here when it is a bit dryer.
Good and bad
Course layout I liked a lot. I thought the greens were in excellent conditions along with the traps and fairways weren't half bad either, when I could find them. Booking people every six minutes is ridiculous and that leads to people on top of each other and more than a few anxious moments with fellow golfers. And if you're going to keep scheduling like that add more ball washers out on the course and FIX the men's restroom with all those extra greens fees.
Used to be a Gem, not now
The course has a great layout, not difficult at all. Fairways had very thin grass, no sign of over seeding, greens were very good, just slow. I have to say that Wil the greens keeper is top of his game, does what he can with the money he is given, he is a very hard worker. Had a 1:30 tee time, had to wait 30 minutes for a golf cart, this is not the first time this has happened. This happens almost daily during snow bird season. Once we got the cart, the 1st tee was backed up and we had to wait for 4 groups ahead of us. The play was extremely slow. No marshall or starter in the afternoons, They book groups 6 minutes apart....so this leads to very slow play. The facilities are run down, the bathrooms on the golf course are very dirty and not clean, seems like they just don't care. Management puts very little money into any improvements on this golf course. We finished at 6:45, and had to
hurry to beat the last bit of daylight.
Best value for the money in the area
This course is in excellent condition. The greens and fairways have grass that is actually green as compared to the brown sparse grass we’ve found at many courses in the area. Should they bring their clubhouse up to date with some renovations, this would be a solid 9 out of 10. Highly recommend playing here for the conditions!
Worth the drive
Decent course. Plays longer than the card says. Some good challenging holes...uphill, downhill, long, etc. No rakes in bunkers...don't know why because they don't ensure you get one with the cart. Cart paths are pretty bad. Greens are good with very few being flat. And they play slow. Bunkers have decent sand in them. Cart girl came around twice. Tee boxes are decent. Some holes are pretty short (#4 is a short par 5....too short). There isn't a "Bad" hole.
Rakes needed
Had a great day with some friends. A good day. Everytime I play this course, I enjoy it more and more. At one time this course was pretty run down. But management is constantly making progress. And the course is showing constant improvement. And it's a good course layout. The only real complaints that I have are 2. 1st. Rakes on golf carts is the dumbest idea in golf ever. And on top of that, all your carts don't have rakes. Buy some rakes & put them in the bunkers. And lastly, spread t-times out. 6 minutes is too close.
