Country Club of Silver Springs Shores
About
Opened in 1969, the Country Club at Silver Springs Shores has been host to a variety of mini-tour and U.S. Open Section qualifying events. It is known for having some of the fastest and most severe greens in the area. Desmond Muirhead, a longtime associate of Jack Nicklaus, designed the golf course, giving it a different character on the front and back nines. The first half of the golf course is a traditional parkland layout that mixes native trees and wide-open meadows. The back nine is a true Florida-style golf course with water coming into play on six holes. Country Club at Silver Springs Shores finishes with one of its toughest water holes, a par 5 starts with an intimidating tee shot past a massive lake that wraps around the landing area. Many locals consider Silver Springs Shores to be one of the best public golf courses in the Ocala area.

Golfer Reviews
Challenging Course
This course is in great shape and offers a nice challenge. The course has plenty to offer; elevation changes, dog legs in both directions, and lots of water hazards on the back nine. I was able to stick the greens without any issues; however, the undulation of the greens provided many difficult puts. Had a great day of golf and will definitely be back to play the Country Club of Silver Springs Shores.
Better than expected, but...
This course was better than expected based on previous comments. Staff was as friendly as could be and course conditions were good relative to most other courses in the area. Here are my observations: (1) The bunkers are almost unplayable. Too much sand and worse, according to one employee, is that they have started "fluffing them up" meaning the sand has been raked up in some fashion that essentially means every ball that goes into the bunker gets plugged. There is virtually no way to get out of a bunker cleanly, so my experience is that every bunker comes with at least a 2 stroke penalty (and I'm a decent bunker player, by the way). (2) These greens are really tricky! Very sloped (many of them "domed") and have as much grain to them as any I've seen. Unless you hit the green in the correct quadrant, a 3 putt is a real possibility. I would play here again but only with the Golf Now deal pricing. There is a fine line between "challenging" and "fun to play." This course is challenging and the only fun part was the price we were paying.
Good shape for the fall season
Always a fun but challenging course. Fairways in decent shape and roughs are mowed. Green a little slow but true.
Have played this course 20 to 30 times, The greens are in excellent shape and the fairways and tee boxes in reasonably good shape. The surrounds , in particular the cart paths are not in good shape. The course is very good value for the money, and I would have no hesitation recommending it.
Good test of golf
Very good all around, but please repair some of the cart paths!
Bravo
When I moved to Ocala last November. Silver Springs Shores was one of the first courses that I played. Although I really liked the course layout. Up and down the course was a mess. After hearing many good things about how well the course was doing this year. I decided it was time to check it out. Boy, was I pleased. After only paying for a $22 hot deal. I found the course overall to be in excellent shape. The greens were outstanding. The fairways over-all were very good. The rough was so-so. And still a little too much crab grass mixed into the playing turf. But nothing obscenely disruptive. Even saw my first Ocala alligator. I'm not sure I'd pay $40 or $50 to play here. But I think if they continue to improve the course; I could get there.
Great Course
It's a little worn around the edges but the pace of play combined with challenging greens and a cool layout make this place a hidden gem. Well known to local golfers to provide great value.
