Country Club of Silver Springs Shores
About
Opened in 1969, the Country Club at Silver Springs Shores has been host to a variety of mini-tour and U.S. Open Section qualifying events. It is known for having some of the fastest and most severe greens in the area. Desmond Muirhead, a longtime associate of Jack Nicklaus, designed the golf course, giving it a different character on the front and back nines. The first half of the golf course is a traditional parkland layout that mixes native trees and wide-open meadows. The back nine is a true Florida-style golf course with water coming into play on six holes. Country Club at Silver Springs Shores finishes with one of its toughest water holes, a par 5 starts with an intimidating tee shot past a massive lake that wraps around the landing area. Many locals consider Silver Springs Shores to be one of the best public golf courses in the Ocala area.

Great lay out
The course was in great shape. This course is a good course to play if you want to be challenged.
Only the front 9 was open
We were informed at the clubhouse before our round that only the front 9 was open, the back 9 was closed for maintenance. We have played this course many times, and this never was the case before. Some spots in the fairways could use mowing, but the tee boxes and greens were in good shape. The sand in the bunkers was like concrete, very hard-packed and difficult to play a proper sand shot out unless you picked the ball clean off the surface. Also, the cart paths are virtually useless, needing repair or replacement. Under current conditions I would not recommend this course to a friend.
Do not play
I took a customer to play for a golf outing. I believed the reviews that said this was a 3-4 start course. I couldn't have been more disappointed and embarrassed for choosing this course.
Everything including the parking lot, clubhouse, landscape, cart paths, driving range (the grass was 2ft tallon this 'driving range'), rough, fairways, and greens need a tremendous amount of work.
It was hard to tell, in many places, if this course was being abandoned or maintained.
The pace of play was great because there were a total of 5 people I saw on the entire course (including myself and my customer).
Do not play this course...country club ha... For any more than $5-$10
Surprising!!
A really nice layout that is challenging. Everybody was really nice and welcoming!
I enjoyed the course a lot!
Fun Course
Good shape. Great greens. Will definitely play again. Staff not very friendly.
good 2 go
sivler springs never lets you down the best greens in the ocala area and the fairways are just fine. It is a good layout and you can play a good round there just stay below the hole! Enjoy its worth the ride
Great place to play
I've played this course about 10-15 times a year for the past twenty years. Great place to play a round with your friends. The course is spread out, so if you're awful, you won't hit any buildings or homes. Greens were okay, fairways needed a some attention. Staff was friendly. They offered us to start early if we wanted (showed up about an hour early to warm up). Driving range needs to be redone. Golf carts were older but still worked fine for us. Overall a course I try and play at least once a month. If you're a higher handicap, this is the place for you.
great layout
friendly starter who explained the course very well.
fairways had not been cut recently and the rough was iffy, probably due to lack of water. The greens overall were good with just a few bare patches.
We will play it again.
Fun In Spite of The Staff
Play this course because it has a nice lay out and the greens (except #9...will tell you about that in a minute) were really good. The carts were old as all the other reviews said, however, the one I took got me around the course with no problems. The cart paths were also old, rough, etc. as all the other reviews said, however, that didn't deter from a great day of golf in my opinion. Now the staff....that was a different story. Old guys who don't seem too happy about anything (and I'm over 60 years old). I arrived about 20 minutes before my tee time and it wasn't busy at all (Wednesday morning). The guy in shop seemed uninterested in anything except collecting my money. As I was paying he radioed the starter and told him to hold the twosome on #1 because he would be sending a single (me) down to join them. I immediately told him that I wanted to warm up and putt a little before I started my round...that's why I arrived 20 minutes early. He sighed and grabbed the radio and told the starter I wasn't ready yet so send that twosome out. I then started looking for a hat or shirt in the shop and the counter guy told me to make sure not to miss my tee time because they were busy that morning. OK, so I won't spend any money in your shop so I went outside and started my round. The starter was OK but definitely not friendly...he just wanted to see my receipt and get my cart number. I really enjoyed the first 8 holes then on hole #9 the front right portion of the green was a mess! Completely heavily sanded over...very little grass and guess where they had the pin flag? Yep...front, right red flag right in the middle of that screwed up area. 80 percent of that green was good EXCEPT where they put the flag that morning. I saw a marshal on the next hole and asked him if anyone in front of me had said anything about #9's pin placement. He almost totally ignored me and then said a red flag/front pin placement on that green is always tough. I said yeah I agree especially when you have to putt through a sand trap. I'm happy I played the course. The back nine is more challenging with more water hazards and forced carries over trouble to hit the fairways or greens on the two par 3s. Go play this course if you're in the area but don't expect any friendly/happy/helpful staff while you're there!
Must play.
If you are looking for a really good course in the area I highly recommend this one. Course is challenging with a good amount of water but still very fun. We will be going back.
Nice course getting better
Course is in nice shape couple of greens not great but you can putt them played in 3 1/2hrs
Cart issue
I had a golf cart that had major issues and would not run properly went to the clubhouse to exchange it after nine and they are closed early because of Easter the back nine took forever with the cart having so many issues
Good course and layout
Although the course was good as well as the lay out, goof carts are in poor condition as well as the paths, otherwise very enjoyable
What a Shame
What a shame to see such a course with a nice layout go to waste. First off the it seems the criteria to work the pro shop is to be unpleasant and unfriendly. The gas carts are old and in poor working condition. The range is horrible. The cart paths are a waste of earth. It is better to stay off the cart paths. Fairways are scarce of grass. Sandtraps are inconsistent, some had water while others were good. The best part are the greens, lush and fast.
To tough for me
This is an excellent golf course but not for someone who shoots over 90. You need to have excellent control over your ball, and be able to hit the ball consistent distances. The in ground distance markers were hard to find. The course is very busy and you felt like you were always under pressure.
To compound the problem on two of the holes the driving range was in between and there were golf balls in the fairways so you had to search for your ball(coloured balls are a good idea to use here). The putting was challenging, only one hole had a flat green, the rest were like putting over a series of waves. My advice is if you are going to play here do it with someone who is really familar with the course.
natural beauty of water and wildlife was great
slow play of foursome in front of us caused for a long day and spoiled a nice golf course
A must play in Florida
This course has so much character that you can't be disappointed even if the carts paths are very subpar. This course has all the challenges for a respectable golfer and the greens are better than a number in the area. Will definitely play again.
Could be an excellent course
I enjoy playing here even though the condition of the course could use improvement. Cart paths will jar your teeth out. It has a very good layout, but seems to have been let go. Greens are huge with lots of undulations but only in fair condition.
This course has old school character
This course was really interesting. I enjoyed the setup.
There were a some good doglegs and some interesting angles of attack. There was some water but not every hole. The front nine was really scenic and had no homes on it. The back nine has some condos but aren't right on top of the course. Fairways were good. tee boxes could be mowed a little closer. The greens were average. if the greens could be improved i definitely raise my rating. Carts are older but work just fine and you can maneuver around some of the rough cart path areas. I enjoyed my round. I'll be back!
Inexpensive round on a nice course
Course was in good shape after the rain the night before. Booked on Golf Now at a great rate!
