Country Club of Silver Springs Shores
About
Opened in 1969, the Country Club at Silver Springs Shores has been host to a variety of mini-tour and U.S. Open Section qualifying events. It is known for having some of the fastest and most severe greens in the area. Desmond Muirhead, a longtime associate of Jack Nicklaus, designed the golf course, giving it a different character on the front and back nines. The first half of the golf course is a traditional parkland layout that mixes native trees and wide-open meadows. The back nine is a true Florida-style golf course with water coming into play on six holes. Country Club at Silver Springs Shores finishes with one of its toughest water holes, a par 5 starts with an intimidating tee shot past a massive lake that wraps around the landing area. Many locals consider Silver Springs Shores to be one of the best public golf courses in the Ocala area.

Eh, first time in a while we have played here and not sure I am coming back.
Starting out the staff was mixed a nice young guy started checking us out but then as I needed a second cart as I had brought my kids along they charged me another 15 dollars (I payed for my wife and I and they told us kids played free) Maybe I am asking too much but if I would have paid separately I would have gotten two carts no problem. A not so friendly older gentleman was extremely unhelpful with telling us where to take our clubs and get our cart. When we got downstairs we waited approximately 15 minutes for carts (apparently a cart had broken down on the course, that should have been another sign) Luckily a frequent patron helped us get carts. Then we saw that they are older carts that didn't seem to be well maintained mechanically.
I hit my first drive from what I could tell I should have been no more than a foot off the fairway but couldn't find my ball as the rough was too thick, this was a consistent theme for the day, if I wasn't on the fairway or green the ball was almost impossible to find. We saw other people on the course struggling with the same issue.
It has quite a few water hazards which are fun and had a great layout. If the rough was kept a little nicer and their staff was friendly and helpful I would go back, but for now the scars are too fresh.
Disappointing
9/11/2016 was the first time I had played this course in a while. I was extremely disappointed in the condition of the course and the friendliness of the staff. With the exception of the woman bartending. She was very friendly. I dont know if I would come back
Just ok
Course in ok shape except for bunkers... Great if you like 30 year old gas carts that may or may not make a round
Course has really gone downhill
We were a two-some, and we're placed right behind some sort of "event," which appeared to be a "who's the worst golfer" championship. We spent more time waiting than playing, waiting on every single shot for the entire round, while watching the group ahead searching the woods and lakes for their golf balls. The round took over 4.5 hours on a course we should have finished in well under four hours. They could have given us the option to start on the back 9, and we'd have had clear sailing all the way. The course was also in bad shape. Barely missing the fairway meant trying to find your ball buried in the deep, shaggy, uncared for rough. Most greens had some disease issues, but still putted fairly well. We've played this course many times, and it seems to have gotten worries every time. This was probably the last time we'll be playing there.
Deep Rough
Wow, hadn't played this course in a few years so I thought why not, it's not raining yet..
Great rate with Golf Now, and the staff at the course were very friendly. I was going to play with 3 others but they weren't there yet so the starter said go play if you want.
The tee boxes and fairways were in pretty decent shape, a little cow grass here and there but not bad. The rough however was just horrible, three to four inches tall in front of the tee boxes and at least that bad just off the fairways. I lost four balls in the rough on the first nine, and I don't mean way into the rough either. Lost another two balls on the back side also for the same reason.
The greens were in great shape, but again just off the greens it was deep rough again.
Until they can mow a little better I think I'll play at any of the numerous courses in this area rather than here.
Real deal from the tips ...
Played 8/3. Greens in very good shape (from the reviews they were plugged and dressed about a month ago), fairways and tee boxes in fair condition. Guy at the desk pleasant to me and I got lucky that the threesome I was paired with were pleasant with good attitudes. Back to my title: I played from the Gold (tips) which is listed as a tad under 7000. What makes this course so challenging is from the Gold tees this layout puts a premium an driving accuracy while requiring decent distance (250-280) to either get past the corners to see the green, or clear the many forced carries required from the tips. The par 3's are all over 200 with the hardest being 217 over a lake. Hole 15 is as tough a par 4 as you will find in central Florida with a blind tee shot to boot. And forget about it if the wind is straight into your face. It's a challenging, enjoyable course and definitely worth it with a hot deal less than $20. The facilities are dated to be sure but the condition of the cart paths are irrelevant, you don't putt on the cart paths.
Nice lay out
The course was very good shape. The greens were in good with a nice roll. Very good day.
Rude staff! Rough conditions!
Course was in ok shape. Parking lot , sidewalks, cart paths are horrendous! The guy at the front desk doesn't need to be in customer service. I arrived 35 minutes early to hit balls. He scolds me for being a single. Tells me I can go out with the group ahead of me who left 20 mins ago. I again said I wanted to hit balls. He throws his hands up and says you will be waiting a long time because of a skins game. You will not be allowed to play through! This was an outstanding golf course. What the heck happened. Plenty of play!
Silver spring shores
The fairways and greens were in excellent shape
We had a good pace of play
Beautiful scenery and wild life was really nice.

Aweful
Arrived at the course to check in pro shop forgot to mention that the greens where unplayable. All 18 holes covered with top dressing and the lumps of grass from aerification where sticking up so because this was impossible to putt on we played any shot on the green automatic par. It was a hot deal for 12$ but the course should have been closed at least until maintenance was done and a heads up would have been nice. No matter the cost honesty is always the best practice. I always check reviews and call golf, course before booking. They never said a word. You may have gained 12$ but you lost a lot more. The consumer
Great lay out
The course was in great shape. This course is a good course to play if you want to be challenged.
Only the front 9 was open
We were informed at the clubhouse before our round that only the front 9 was open, the back 9 was closed for maintenance. We have played this course many times, and this never was the case before. Some spots in the fairways could use mowing, but the tee boxes and greens were in good shape. The sand in the bunkers was like concrete, very hard-packed and difficult to play a proper sand shot out unless you picked the ball clean off the surface. Also, the cart paths are virtually useless, needing repair or replacement. Under current conditions I would not recommend this course to a friend.
Do not play
I took a customer to play for a golf outing. I believed the reviews that said this was a 3-4 start course. I couldn't have been more disappointed and embarrassed for choosing this course.
Everything including the parking lot, clubhouse, landscape, cart paths, driving range (the grass was 2ft tallon this 'driving range'), rough, fairways, and greens need a tremendous amount of work.
It was hard to tell, in many places, if this course was being abandoned or maintained.
The pace of play was great because there were a total of 5 people I saw on the entire course (including myself and my customer).
Do not play this course...country club ha... For any more than $5-$10
Surprising!!
A really nice layout that is challenging. Everybody was really nice and welcoming!
I enjoyed the course a lot!
Fun Course
Good shape. Great greens. Will definitely play again. Staff not very friendly.
good 2 go
sivler springs never lets you down the best greens in the ocala area and the fairways are just fine. It is a good layout and you can play a good round there just stay below the hole! Enjoy its worth the ride
Great place to play
I've played this course about 10-15 times a year for the past twenty years. Great place to play a round with your friends. The course is spread out, so if you're awful, you won't hit any buildings or homes. Greens were okay, fairways needed a some attention. Staff was friendly. They offered us to start early if we wanted (showed up about an hour early to warm up). Driving range needs to be redone. Golf carts were older but still worked fine for us. Overall a course I try and play at least once a month. If you're a higher handicap, this is the place for you.
great layout
friendly starter who explained the course very well.
fairways had not been cut recently and the rough was iffy, probably due to lack of water. The greens overall were good with just a few bare patches.
We will play it again.
