Worth the wait
Grow up here, never had the opportunity to play it. Greens were fast, fairways were in great condition.
Disappointed
Rental clubs were very poor, obviously a members old clubs with worn out grips. A new set of grips would go a long way. I thought a private course would be in much better condition.
Must play.
This course can not be beat for value. The course is in the best shape of any course I've played through golf now in the st.pete Tampa area. Great greens and fairways. Greens are undulating and probably rolling about 10 which isn't to fast but not slow. Course is challenging especially with high winds. Good pace of play. The layout can be a bit bland at times but gives a good challenge to the scratch player. Range is small about 190 yards long.
Needs maintenance
While this course is rated as over 4 stars, I was truly disappointed to find more of a 2-2/12 stars. Greens were chewed up and the rough was a short as most muny's fairways. Old course layout could be very nice if the spent a little more on maintenance/seed etc.
Beautiful course
Nicest course I've played in quite some time. Fairways were like a green carpet. Greens very quick and fun to putt on.
Very Nice
A first class experience from arrival to leaving. Very good dollar value.
Great course layout difficult greens
Enjoyable with generous landing areas from the tees
Curtious staff . One negative the divot mix boxes were full of water.
Shades of the old days........
A nice feeling playing on a course that has retained a good, old country club atmosphere. The course seemed long and the winding in and around neighborhoods was charming but also a bit disenchanting. Hard to explain. The last few holes may have been worth the trip down, but most of the day the holes were kind of ho-hum. The course is tougher that one might think if you can't keep it in the fairway. You will lose balls if you don't size up the carry distances on the water holes. With wind the course plays tough and you'll be hitting hybrids into hard to hold greens.
Taking advantage of Golfnow time for Private course
St. Petersburg CC is a members only club with occasional Golfnow times available. Great old course that made a first timer very welcome. As I spend more time in St. Pete's area will explore the limited membership program. Great variety in tee blocks for both Men and Women
Overall experience
Staff very good and hospitable, front 9 was good but the back 9 with exception of the 17 were a little same ish. Greens were a little marked.
excellent course
tough greens soft fairways great condition good food in clubhouse
Very good value
Picked this course for first round of vacation and wasn't disappointed. Very nice people, relaxed and yet good pace. Generally wide fairways but water and some tricky greens made it interesting. Good sandwiches at the turn. Enjoyed!
Nice track. A lot of risk, reward holes.
Enjoy the St Pete experience. Staff friendly and accomodating. Course well maintained even though over-seeding was taking place. Greens were quick. Almost like bent grass greens.
A great course for all types of players
3 players from Denmark, we loved this course, with lots of challenges for players with any handicap. The club offered free range balls, use of facilities as driving range, putting, chipping etc. and all at a high service. Thanks a lot also to "Joe".
Overall a good golf experience.
Course seemed long. Some of the greens were in rough shape, with bare areas. The staff was not especially friendly it seemed to golf now players. There was a lag in tee offs & we asked about going out-- we were denied & were told that golf now told them they had to strictly hold to the tee time. As it turned out, the 4 some going out right in front of us, told us to go ahead-- their group was not ready + there had been 2 empty tee times in front of them.
Great Old Course
Always a pleasure to play, Ex Lakewood Country Club, this is a very historic course that still plays well. It is a very fair test of golf that can be played by any skill level. Very forgiving for the less skilled, but plenty of challenge for a scratch golfer. Resembles a Donald Ross design with lots of raised greens. Greens rolled great and the fairways were excellent. If you have never played it, you should. Staff is great.
Nice Course
Nice course in good condition. Layout is a little boring until you hit the closing holes, which are really nice. At times feel like you are playing the same hole over and over, but the final 4 are excellent designs. Greens rolled true, Fairways in very good condition. There are better layouts in Pinellas for same or better price (Bardmoor, Belleview Biltmore, Dunedin CC), but this is clearly the best (public access) in S. Pinellas.
Great Condition, friendly staff
Excellent day on the course. Will definitely be back. Also, pro shop had low prices, especially on balls.
