About
Spread across 218 acres, the Ron Kern-designed Purgatory Golf Club is the longest par-72 course east of the Mississippi River. Nevertheless, the course is set up to be enjoyed by all, with six different sets of tees ranging from more than 7,700 yards all the way down to just under 4,600 yards. Bunkering is one of the club's defining features, with more than 130 coming into play. Nowhere is this more apparent than on the par-3 17th, where eight massive bunkers almost completely surround the putting surface.

Thoughtful layout
Course has plenty to challenge you with traps, forced carries, slopes and wind. Despite abundant rain all areas were in great shape and well maintained. Was fortunate to play with some regulars which helped greatly with strategy and target selection. Only downside was packed sand in most traps due to the rainfall in August. Will return again to play.

It’s Great that they adding more sand in the traps
Great Course
Great course. Tough layout. Fairways and greens are well taken care of. If you’re not in the fairway you’re in trouble. My only complaint is tee times are 10 minutes apart. You get a lot of people out here that take their game serious (some too serious for how they play) so I think they need spaced 12-15 minutes apart. Once we hit the turn we would have two foursomes on the box the rest of the way.
Fair but Very Challenging
Add about 10 to whichever course rating you play. Narrow fairways with 4 inch rough guarding. Must be very accurate off the tee or it will be a long day. Not tricked up at all, fair but very challenging course.
Great layout and golf course
Course was in fabulous shape. Tough course but very fair. GPS was extremely helpful. Pace of play was great. Will definitely play again if in the area. Staff was very accommodating to get us out earlier than our originally scheduled time .
Difficult but fun…
The course is difficult…hence the name…but it was in excellent condition tee to green and if you hit a good shot you got rewarded. The fairways are wide but rough is thick. The greens are large and have lots of slope but the green-speed is not fast so it’s fair. The only downside is pace of play…ITS SLOW!! The 4-somes there just play slow and won’t let you play thru. A roving ranger would help. Regardless….its worth playing.
First Time
i can compare by price with others in Puerto Rico and is really overall superior, Purgatory is a perfect course to visit frequently.
First time
Wow if you live in Indiana and haven’t played here yet I can’t recommend it enough. The greens and fairways are immaculate. The layout is very fun and challenging. Tough greens with slopes and tiers on multiple holes.
Best golf of Indy
Absolutely one of the best courses I ever had. The pleasure of playing conditions were perfect, course was perfect, and everyone on the staff couldn’t have been more friendly and accommodating.
