Purgatory Golf Club
About
Spread across 218 acres, the Ron Kern-designed Purgatory Golf Club is the longest par-72 course east of the Mississippi River. Nevertheless, the course is set up to be enjoyed by all, with six different sets of tees ranging from more than 7,700 yards all the way down to just under 4,600 yards. Bunkering is one of the club's defining features, with more than 130 coming into play. Nowhere is this more apparent than on the par-3 17th, where eight massive bunkers almost completely surround the putting surface.

Par 3, 17th Hole Photo submitted by TravisCedzidlo19 on 10/09/2014
Great Course
The course is great. Very unique. But, if they want to have a million sand traps, the traps should actually have sand in them (especially the ones around the greens).
Nice, but difficult track
Being my first time it was a little difficult navigating the course. The signage is limited but after a few wrong turns it was manageable. It is a little difficult to figure out where to go on a few holes and I was completely wrong on 18! Would play there again but at an 18 handicap it would have to be early in the season as when the long grass grows in the difficulty would soar. It was windy which didn’t help but I enjoyed the outing.
Good golf day
Staff was very friendly from the pro shop check in to the staff in the bar area.
Course was in good condition even for early in the season and all the rain we had earlier in the week. Some areas had some standing water but by and large most of those ares had no effect on play. Had a fun day of early season golf. Will return sometime soon.
Great course
I always love playing this course. First time in a long time playing without wind. Course was in great shape and the greens were in great shape even after being aerated.
Great Course
Don’t Play
Don’t waste your money. Course was in horrible condition. Bunkers were like hitting up dirt and pace. The play was 5+ hours.
bad ranger
I would recommend the course to somebody but I will not spend by money. It took 2:40 to play the front 9 due to an extremely slow group in front of us. They went in at the turn thank goodness and we played through them. The ranger decides to chew us out and pointing out the group in front of us is on 17 in a less than professional manner. I didn't not take it very well and proceeded to be a little rude about the group in front of us on 12. Then he promptly replied I'm glad you got thru them but the group in front of you is on 27. I responded, where the frok were you on the front 9, your out here on 14 telling us to speed up, if it was our group holding the course, waiting to tell someone on hole 14 is laughable. What good will that do ? Next time, which I am sure there will, have your facts straight before chiding to rip in to people. BTW, played back 9 in 1 1/2 hrs to at least get near a 4 hour round.
Awesomely difficult course
It’s great. If you haven’t played there should be enough positive reviews to convince you to. My only issue was inconsistency in bunker quality. Some bunkers that are commonly hit in are like concrete and have large stones scattered in them. While a very slim few were great. It leads to uncertainty in how to play the shot and damaged clubs. It’s little annoying considering there are 150 of them, and the round is expensive. Rough pretty dry too
Great place to play!!
I love this course, we come up from Indy to play. Always a great time
