Spectacularly Unique
What an amazing experience this was.
We have traveled all over the world and seen varying degrees of course design and atmosphere, this was right up there amongst the best.
Nestled high above, this property operated by Troon, is above any beyond just a golf course. Slope rating of 137 from the Blacks, the just over 7000 yards is a challenge with no wind and nearly impossible when the wind blows, it’s perfect:)
Each hole has a breaktaking views and the perfectly manicured landscaping delivers a feel like it’s your home course!
Perhaps what this semi private course offers that others haven’t in the area, is the absence of residential community. Your are in the nature of the mountains playing golf, no auxiliary distractions, eye soars or people starting at you from their patios. This is golf and environment at its finest.
I could go on, but will leave it at...we have played many course on Maui and this is my favorite course thus far. It is an absolute must.
Enjoy!
Gargantuan mountain course
This is a unique golf club, starting with a long driveway up the mountain that ends at a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed clubhouse. Definitely a high-end feel, but everyone is very down-to-earth and helpful. As a single on a weekday afternoon in early December, got around in two and a half hours. The course is built on the side of the mountain, with majestic views, big elevation changes, and no flat lies. Greens, fairways, and rough were all in excellent condition; the bunkers were somewhat uneven in quality. Did better on the back nine after I learned to go up about three clubs into the elevated greens. Great challenge, great fun. Not cheap, but worth the experience.
Mahalo Again
What can I say I didn't say last year. It's become a must play when we're here. The staff, course and views are all awesome. I'll play it 4-5 times while we're hear. No Makena no problem-Play Here!
Fun course
Saw the chance to play at "Maui's only private course", so gave it a try.
It was a fun course, and the clubhouse is beautifully designed. Would play it again on my next visit to Maui
Great layout and excellent value
Was pleasantly surprised upon arrival. The first hole is amazing and the rest of the couse didn't disappoint. Would play again in a heart beat. Make sure to make it one of your golf destinations when on Maui.
Fit for a King
We enjoyed an early afternoon round at KK having been paired with two other golfers in Maui for a conference. Pace of play was exceptional given the hilly terrain and occasional space between holes. The vistas from KK are amazing as you'll see planes on final approach actually at an elevation below you. Course conditions were impressive. The greens couldn't be compared to Kaanapali, but they rolled out nicely, albeit a little slower.
Pristine golf course
This is a private course but you can play it for $150-170 through golfnow.com. This course is a treat for all golfers but especially for advanced players. The course is immaculate and the flowers and shrubbry are magnificent. There is a lot of wind, hence the reference to advanced players. Not to be missed is the 75000 sq ft Frank lloyd Wright clubhouse. Views of the Pacific are fabulous. Definitely worth the money.
One of Maui's Best
We decided to play KK based on the great Golf Advisor reviews. It also came highly recommended by two very respected colleagues.
King Kamehameha is part part of a two course facility in Wailuku (along with Kahili G.C.), not to far from the airport. We stayed at Kapalua, so it takes about 50 min to drive back to the course. This is really the only drawback.
The pro shop and food & beverage staff were very friendly prior to play beginning.
The course is semi-private, so it wasn't overly crowded and was in excellent shape. We hit a bit of a backup on the back nine, so it took us around 4 hrs 15 min to play.
There were a few wet patches, due to some recent rain, but the course was in excellent condition. The course traverses its way up the side of a mountain, so there's a decent amount of wind blowing both ways. With the elevation changes, the views are beautiful. You can see two mountains, the bay and the ocean; can't ask for much more.
This was a very enjoyable round, that ended with chilled coconut scented towels to cool down.
Highly recommended, and for what you get compared to other high-priced locations on the island, a very good value.
Great course on a mountain
This is a private course. Got a tee time on GolfNow. It was pretty expensive, but worth it all the way. Staff was very friendly. Since it's private, the tee times were not too stacked up, and pace of play was decent. The clubhouse is spectacular. My wife snuck into the members-only locker room and said it was crazy awesome. Had a sandwich from the very friendly snack bar attendant. Best greens and fairways I've seen on Maui. The views are pretty great throughout the entire course and there were some interesting rock and water features. Overall, totally recommend if you have the money to spend.
Worth The Drive
One of the few Maui courses that is not close to the main resort areas, but definitely worth the ride. The facilities are very well kept, but the course itself it beautiful, but challenging.
Greens roll true, if a little slow, but the elevation changes and the constant battle with the elements makes it an extremely entertaining course to play. If you're not on the top of your game, just stop to take in the vistas. Views to both sides of the island are common and breathtaking.
Windy/Over priced
The course was in excellent shape and the staff was friendly. However, it is extremely windy. There can easily be a 30 yard difference in normal club selection.Personally, I don't find that enjoyable. At 179.00, there are several better deals on Maui.
Perfect experience
The only accessible 18 hole private club on Maui. Well maintained, great pace of play and challenging without being extreme. Nice elevation changes..great view of Wailea and countryside. I would reccomend this to everyone visiting Maui. If you are going to be there for extended period, please check membership options as they have monthly options. We will definitely play it again on our return.
Great Views on a Fun Course
The course was fun to play. Being on the side of a volcano, there was plenty of wind throughout the round. It seemed to be either in my face or my back but at least consistent. The bermuda rough was very challenging. The greens were somewhat fast but rolled true and would hold a shot to them. The one disappointment was there was one temporary green that neither GolfNow or the course mentioned. Otherwise a fine day. Every hole had great vistas.
Great Views and Course
The course is place on the side of a volcano. The wind is in a constant direction and affects all the holes. The course has some water challenges and you will have to place your shots with some thought. The rough can be punishing and the ball will sink down. The greens have subtle breaks in them that are not always apparent. Don't forget to look at the views, they are spectacular!
The only disappointment was one temporary green which was not mentioned either on GolfNow or at the club house. Otherwise, it was fun to play.
Must play
Great course a little windy at times that's part of the make up of this course. First time playing here staff were great. Conditions were great , don't be surprised if you get a few showers during the day it will help u cool down
Nice course but too windy
Beautiful course, well maintained, moderate bunkering, decent sand, fast greens (recently sanded and punched). Almost no water on front 9, substantial water on the back 9. Downsides: Private country club requires membership or "member for a day" invitation. Very windy the day we were there made it totally unenjoyable. 25% higher score than typical and all wind related.
Great Value
This was the first time we played this course, and I would highly recommend it. Perhaps the breeze caused a few not to play, but we found that once we teed off on #1, we didn't wait again the whole day. The round was completed in just over three hours, without rushing, just a nice pace of play.
The course was in excellent condition, though the greens were a bit slower than Kapalua or Kaanapali.
The wind did play havoc on short approaches into it, but no more than other courses, but assisted on the longer holes.
The course was challenging, but fair, with some longer, but down hill par 3's, and a nice mix of straighter and dog leg holes.
We definitely will play here again on a next trip to Maui.
Stopped for lunch after our round and found the restaurant matched the rest of the course.
This course gives great value, when you consider the course itself and especially the pace of play.
Very fair layout
I rated pace of play high because I was only one of five golfers I saw on the course... earlier rain chased everyone else away. Fairly wide fairways to allow for the wind. Only two blind shots into greens. Various water features are scenic. Despite their appearance, greens are actually fairly flat, only have to judge the grain. Fantastic views of the peninsula and Hali a Kala volcano.
Another Day In Paradise
I have now played every course on Maui and the two on Lanai. It is in the upper tier for beauty and conditioning. A fair test for any skill level and we played with another couple. The women's tees are set up perfectly. Enjoyed the heck out of it and hope to find time to do it again.
Mahalo
It’s an island. Go play pacific dunes. You’ll hate it. Ranked 1 or 2 in US trading spots with pebble depending on year. Club up.....or down. ;)
