Maui Nui Golf Club
About
The classic design of Maui Nui Golf Club combines different elements including reachable holes that face each cardinal point with strong prevailing winds that reward smart play for a layout that is both fair and challenging. The layout wanders through the foothills of Haleakula, providing subtle elevation changes as well as views of the ocean and the surrounding West Maui Mountains and the volcanic atoll Molokini. The golf course has a variety of holes that will have you hitting downwind, upwind, and with both left and right crosswinds. A few lakes and ponds also come into play. Maui Nui Golf Club's layout features generous fairways and large greens. The difficulty of the course depends heavily on the speed of the prevailing winds that day. Golfers will be greatly rewarded by keeping the ball in play and good putting and chipping skills.

Great Local Course
First time playing Maui Nui. 40+ times golfing in Hawaii. Maui Nui is in the top two courses for value, number one in staff competence and friendliness. Great views, some challenging holes, lots of wildlife, I'm sure some unappreciated, yet the grounds grew did some remarkable swift repair work. Highly recommend a round at Kihei's renowned, "locals Play" course.
Friendly staff, rough course but fun
I am a newer player so top notch courses wasted on me. This course was fun to play. Greens slow. Nice long fairways and not too many obstacles. Really liked the cart with screen telling me how far I was from hole and pace of play. Really great staff. Easy check in. Best Mai Tai on the island (thanks Cortney)
Amazing value, amazing course
First things first, the staff was amazing. Course was in solid shape, they are clearly working on parts of the course ( irrigation, construction, general usage repair, etc). None of that affected the great round I experienced.
Black volcanic sand was amazing, completely different than mainland sands. Course was a great value. Is it the plantation course or Walia gold, no. But dollar for dollar the value was there. Next time in Hawaii I will play this course again
Course Extremely Rough
Course was in extremely poor condition. Greens were half dead or infected with some fungus. Fairways had areas of just dirt and rocks. Tee boxes poor shape, some with incl grass; others no grass. Overall avoid this course.
Two different courses!
Front 9 played relatively easy. Back 9 was very challenging. Course was in immaculate condition. Greens rolled like a thin carpet. Fairways and tee clean and well maintained. Have played this course several times while on Maui. This time the course was near perfect.
Good layout with a challenge from the back tees.
For some one from the Midwest the Bermuda grass is a challenge to chip and put. Nice views up Haleakela and to the ocean. Played in 3:45, great pace.
Good Course Layout but Poor Conditions
First time golfing in Maui and although Maui Nui GC has a decent layout with interesting holes, course conditions not acceptable for paying over $100. Several greens were beat up and played very slow. Many tee boxes not good either and need more mowing. If you want an inexpensive course compared to the top notch courses on Maui, this course is probably okay but I expected better. The Calloway rental clubs were very good.
Meh
Nice staff, ok layout but currently playing as a par 69, due to construction a par 3 was added as the 2nd hole and a par 5 on the back is not playable. Target golf with lots of layups off the tee. Greens were ok but slow. Ok to play if you get a good rate.
Slow pace of Okay
A giant Wedding party of 8+ golfers and then an adult with a 2 year old and treating the course as a child day care who was in and out of the cart and playing chase the kid,all ahead of us made for miserable slow play, need a Marshaller. I quit after hole 9 at 2 hours and 35 minutes for 9 holes.
Best value on Maui for golf
Overall great experience the staff is always very friendly and helpful
Gilligan’s bar and grill has good food and a wonderful staff and great atmosphere.
Good value for Hawaiian golf
I booked a last minute tee time at Maui Nui and played the first six holes on my own before I caught up to a single in front of me and we joined forced for the rest of the round. The golf course had just punched its greens and they were not in peak condition. But otherwise, Maui Nui was fun. The layout is solid with the back nine a little more adventurous than the front as it climbs the hillside and drops back down. The early afternoon trade winds added to the back nine challenge. In a land of high-end resort courses, Maui Nui offers affordable, no frills golf which was appreciated.
