Maui Nui Golf Club
About
The classic design of Maui Nui Golf Club combines different elements including reachable holes that face each cardinal point with strong prevailing winds that reward smart play for a layout that is both fair and challenging. The layout wanders through the foothills of Haleakula, providing subtle elevation changes as well as views of the ocean and the surrounding West Maui Mountains and the volcanic atoll Molokini. The golf course has a variety of holes that will have you hitting downwind, upwind, and with both left and right crosswinds. A few lakes and ponds also come into play. Maui Nui Golf Club's layout features generous fairways and large greens. The difficulty of the course depends heavily on the speed of the prevailing winds that day. Golfers will be greatly rewarded by keeping the ball in play and good putting and chipping skills.

Great course
The back nine needs a little TLC, but i would definitely golf here again
Don't waste your money
The place is a dump. Front 9 greens are shot
Tee boxes are dirt. None of the staff will mention that.
Go play the muni course. Soo much better!
Greens in bad shape
Greens on the front nine were in bad shape but fine on the back nine. Not playing again till greens are good again.
Bad greens and reconstructed cours
From what we were told, the course sold off a portion of the course and reconstructed several holes, which is confusing when using an app.
The greens are also in need of a lot of work.
Although the price is decent for Hawaii golf, at $109, it was not worth it.
Poor condition with confusing layout
First of all the course GPS and score cards in the cart do not match, and when we checked in neither the person at the desk or the starter advised us of this. So when we got to the second hole it was not clear whether we should play the par three to the right of the cart path or the long par 4 to the left. Even though the GPS told us to play the par 4 to the left, we chose the par 3 then the par 4, because there was no apparent path from the par 4 back to the par 3. Because of this the GPS had the wrong hole number through most of the rest of the round. For example, the GPS said hole 9 was hole ten, but when we went past the clubhouse the sign to the next hole pointed accross the street to hole 10. Very confusing!
In addition, one par 3 hole on the back nine is completely torn up and out of play due to nearby construction.
Many of the holes have bare dirt patches or areas where it looks like the fairways have not been watered in days. Many of the greens also have bare or diseased looking areas. Most of the sand traps had very little sand and were often hard packed.
Pace of play was very good, maybe because people are choosing to play other courses. The refreshment cart girl made frequent passes, which was better than most of the courses we have played on Maui. This has been one of our favorite places to golf on Maui in the past, so we hope management is able to put in the time and money needed to bring this course up to past standards.
Cours needs more work
Greens bad on front nine.
Sand in bunkers non existent
Fairways spotty with bare spots near edges
Good spot for the market.
Considering the nature of the golf scene in Maui, this place is a solid option for the price. Staff was friendly and organized. The rental clubs were a good set and plenty of balls were provided. The course layout is average, but offers some views of the ocean. Hole 18 is a downhill par 5, so a fun way to finish. The conditions were very hit or miss. The front 9 greens were really rough with big patches of un puttable dead patches and there was no warning of this. Im assuming its due to disease. The back 9 greens were great and ran faster. Still hate to see that kind of inconsistency. Thats what bumps this down to a 3 star. Tees were in decent condition as well as the fairways and rough. Bunkers were also inconsistent, but not terrible. You can either pay 300-500 for a great condition course in this area, or 100-150 for a round here. Worth playing if youre looking to golf here, but don't want to spend too much to do it. We enjoyed our experience with Maui Nui, and will play again in the future.
Andy - Thunder Bay
It took 4.45 hrs to play - course Marshall (why bother with one) said yes, some people are just slow!! Waited every shot - ridiculous!! Saw him 5x and he did nothing to speed up play - very frustrating!! Nearly all the tee boxes had seen better days and several greens had dead or patched areas on them. The course appears to be overplayed, worn out and is living on hyped past reputation. It has potential but we will not be back anytime soon.way over priced!!
Money and time wasted!
Please trust me on this . Maui Nui doesn’t deserve your hard earned $$$. I read the reviews before I went and thought I would give this place a shot since some of the reviews were older. Huge mistake, most of the greens had bare spots or some fungus. To top it off, the bar would not sell us beverages for our round.
Great Pace of Play
Played an 8am round and finished under 4hrs. If you can get a discounted round then you’re all set for a great time at Maui Nui. Greens are in need a lot of help. Black sand bunkers are in decent shape. Course played we considering the stormy evening and early AM.
What happened?
Played in years past. Was decent. Came out to play with a friend that lives in Kihei. Greens were in terrible shape. Rocks along many cart paths. Bunkers had very little sand. I know it’s expensive to maintain a course. But. What happened?
Very disappointing
Greens in terrible shape with 3 or 4 exceptions. Should not be charging full green fees. On course washroom filthy.
Generally play this course when in Maui. May never do so again.
Needs more TLC
It was an enjoyable day BUT the course, particularly the front 9, is not in good shape. The greens have lots of bare spots and very, very slow. The back 9 is in better shape. We have played this course annually for a number of years and it needs some TLC. It has declined.
Fun track...good value
I enjoy the track....it is a little scrubby with a few greens having some problems but it is a fun golf course and pace of play was 4:15 on a saturday late am...which is great for public course on a weekend that gets a lot of local play.
The range is great with top tracer to get some stats on your practice.
Bottom line is that I won't write home about this course but I did enjoy my round. Not a long course but fun with its own challenges...
Rough shape
I played this course twice last year and it was in pretty good shape. This year it seemed like most of the holes were under construction. My group and I decided to choose a different course after we played on February 4. Overall, we were disappointed.
Fun round
Fair golf course for the money. Seems to always be under construction. Signs directing people to #10 not accurate. All in all, fun time.
