It was a beauty back in its day
Played here since there are not many options due to the hurricane. The layout was beautiful but the greens were terrible. Sand and weeds. A bad day on a golf course is better than work. Some money and love will bring this course back but try other options if available.

Greens Fees vs Quality
Overall, the course has improved since I last played here a year ago. They have more Bermuda grass in the fwys/rough and less goose grass in those areas. However, the greens do need some TLC. They should be better this winter once the overseed takes hold. The staff was extremely friendly, especially Bob. I believe he's the asst. GM. I believe that's what he told me his title was. I usually play at much higher priced courses with much better conditions, but this was a spur of the moment deal. Greens fees are usually a mirror of the quality of the course. That leads me to the playing partners that I was paired with. They all said they were residents here, in a trailer park community that surrounds this course and they had nothing but negative things to say about the place. They all acted like they lived in million $ houses and were getting cheated with $30 greens fees. LOL. Not all courses are PGA Tour quality. I have 2 friends that just played Harbor Town in Hilton Head and they paid $625 per person for 18 holes. Wake up. I look forward to coming back here this winter.

Horrible, horrible, horrible
If you're interested in seeing what long-term neglect does to a course, Spruce Creek is the place to be. Fairways are very patchy; several look more like cow pastures than anything else. Tee boxes often are shabby. The real problem, though, is the greens - all 18 of them are a mixture of dirt, sand, ragged potholes, and weeds. If there's grass on any of them I certainly didn't see it. Whoever's managing the course is obviously spending as little as possible on maintenance and improvements. Greens condition is in fact so bad that two of our foursome quit in disgust after 12 holes.
To add insult to injury, we teed off more than 90 minutes after our reserved time. The course had run out of golf carts, so everyone had to stand around and wait for players finishing their rounds to bring their carts in. Absolutely ridiculous.
I feel sorry for the rank and file employees, and for the course itself, which could be a nice one if only properly taken care of. Bottom line: We play a lot of golf in and around this area and will certainly never play at Spruce Creek again - it's in such bad shape that it's really difficult to enjoy your round there.

Bad shape
I played here today for the first time in a few months hoping it would get better. The tee boxes in greens on the front nine are okay, but as you progress to the back nine, the tee boxes and greens are an abomination! Many of the greens on the back nine are half dirt as well as some of the tee boxes. The layout here is not bad, and where the greens have grass on them they run pretty true, but with so much dirt you have to move your ball sometimes 30 or 40 ft to get an all grass line on a longer putt.
Many of the areas around the greens seem to have been only cut once in a long time so there is a lot of dead grassland around making it hard to find your ball even when you are only 10 yd away. It's typical of so many courses that have potential but are just not well cared for.
I paid around $30 but for this time of year there are other courses that are in much better shape for that price. I won't be back for a long time...

Greens in rough shape
Play here each year once or twice. This time many of the greens are gone! Weeds, large dirt patches etc. I'll wait until next year to return.

What Happened
I have played this course numerous times and it’s always been fair to good condition this time. It was terrible. You can’t really call them greens. And the fairways had weeds growing in it and many many places they need to really get this course back on track soon and this is an honest review like the coarse won’t be back anytime soon

Needs improvement
Many greens under repair. Fairways dry and need water, at least half of them. Some tee boxes have no grass on them. The green fees should be lowered due to the conditions of the course.

Needs a Bit Of Work
!st I want to say we love the course and layout. It needs some work on the fairways & T boxes, lots of places where the grass is sparse. There were a couple of greens that had unputtable spots as well. It could just be that it is suffering from a lot of use over high season and needs to recoup.

Wait a few weeks to give them a chance to fix problems
The course conditiions varied from OK to unplayable. I understand that we have not had adequate rainfall lately, so the holes that were just OK I can accept. However, the irrigation system apparent needs repair and the course has not been properly watered. Greens had damaged areas on them. Some fairways had more weeds than grass or had bare spots. There was no doubt that the course really needed water. Several tee boxes were also bare, but at least we could tee it up to get off of the dirt.
I would play this course again if I knew the course conditions were back to a reasonable standard.

Some of the green's, are in need of repair.
Overall, we love this course and will play again in the near future.
