Nice Course!
The course is in excellent shape and has a fair, yet challenging layout. It is one of the better public courses in the metro area.
Greens were outstanding!
Ignore all the old reviews online, played this course early August 2013 and the greens were in outstanding condition. It's always been one of the best layouts in the St Louis area. Terrific value for money - highly recommended.
PACE OF PLAY was STELLAR!
There is nothing more aggravating than waiting at each hole for 10 minutes. Not here!!!! The PACE OF PLAY was perfect. We played on a beautiful Sunday and over heard all tee times were filled. The course was busy and we expected to get backed up. We tee'd off right on time...and never ran up on anyone, nor did anyone come up on us. Super relaxing round! How golf is supposed to be! There are a few courses I won't play on the weekends due to poor time management. Not this course! I will play here again and again! Great experience and kudos to the person who does the scheduling!!! Go golf here!
Course has potential
Played the course in just over 5Hrs. fairways were nice but the greens need attention. ball marks not repaired by other golfers, but the speed of the greens are slow maybe 8 on the stimp meter. I can remember when they would run around 10 and the surface of the greens were immaculate. now I know century golf now has a major part in the course, you need to let the greenskeeper do his or her job and give them the funding to bring the greens up to a standard that warrant a $54 Sunday morning greens fee.
Wide open for play but a shotmaker's course
Book a weekday morning and you may have the course to yourself. We finished at 10:30a, but it was still hot out there. Came from playing bentgrass, but zoysia gives you good lies. Hard underneath though. Difficult to take a divot.
Greens were in excellent condition except for ball marks. Greens held real well but were fast to putt.
Challenging is the word
Course is in good shape. Greens putt true. You have to make shots, starting at the tee, to make par or better. I hit every club in my bag. I enjoy a couse like that.
Super value
Probably the best course in the St. Louis area you can play for the price. Timeless Arnold Palmer design is a great layout. Conditions were very good, especially the greens.
Challenging Course
The course was in great condition. The greens were in good shape and putted at a good pace. The refreshment cart made regular rounds on the course.
great course, sloooow greens
The course was in great shape, rough was a real challenge, greens were very slow. I wouldn't have expected the greens to be so slow this time of year.
Great value and very well maintained.
Great value and very well maintained. Would definitely recommend.
Course is very attractive and has a challenging layout
I don't have any issues with how the course plays or how well it is maintained. My issue is how the staff treats Golf Now. I booked a 2:32 tee time on a Wednesday. We arrived at 1:15, as a previous appointment ended early. There was literately nobody on the course. I asked if we could go out early and was assured that would not be a problem. The young lady at the pro shop them looked up our reservation and said that because I made the tee time on Golf Now we would have to wait until 2:32. Her reasoning was because they didn't receive any money from Golf Now, because Golf Now receives tee times for there service and we had one of them we would not be allowed the courtesy of going out early. Then when I offered her $20.00 as a gratuity she allowed us on the course early.
It would seem to me that as I paid for the tee time and they agreed to pay for your service this attitude was totally unwarranted.
Unless I receive an apology from the course, I will never play their course again.
Great value for a great public course
The weather was iffy but the GolfNow price was great. We have played this course before and have always liked it. The staff was great, especially in the snack bar during a rain delay. We look forward to returning soon.
One of the best courses in the area!
We tried to sneak a round in on a day the area was supposed to be drenched in rain. The weather cooperated and just misted on us, which was fortunate given that everywhere else got a half inch of rain! Despite the weather the course was in immaculate shape, and greens perfect. There had been rain the night before and mist all day, but still hard and tight. The putts weren't breaking due to the moisture, but I can't wait to get back out there. Only weird thing was that with the clouds/mist it was fairly dark at 730pm when we finished, and found only a kid putting carts away for us and some other stragglers (clubhouse closed). Out front as we put our clubs in the car some park employees (not golfcourse-its located in the park) complained heavily that we should have left an hour ago since the park closes at dusk. Not our fault that 1) The clouds made it darker than it really was 2) Had it been nice conditions they would ahve still been there for another hour 3) No golf course employee mentioned it at all. Thought it was pretty unprofessional (again for the PARK employees, not golfcourse staff).
Staff was awesome and value was GREAT!!! Great golf course
FANTASTIC course with great greens!!!!!!!! Great Value
A gem...
Play this course in the afternoon and stop by Fast Eddie's for dinner and a cold one. Thank me the rest of the night. Tee boxes in great shape, fairways pristine, greens need to be cut so they are running slow. However, bring bug spray or vanilla scented spray for the back nine. The bugs are a complete interference on the back nine. Cart girl was friendly and a welcomed site. Enjoy your round.
Friends in town
Great value for this time of year given the spring we've had in St Louis.
The course is challenging to players of all levels but also very fun to play.
The course was in great shape except for #4 Green which is being worked diligently by the staff to get it back to normal after being ravaged by fungus. It is now playable but full of aeration marks. The rest of the greens were in great shape and fast compared to several other St. Louis courses I have played.
The staff is exceptional.
The course is a little out of the way for me at a 40 to 50 min. drive but worth the drive.
I highly recommend it, especially during the week when it is not as busy.
Outing causes slow play
I love Spencer T Olin, but this was the slowest I've ever seen it play. I teed off at around 2:00 on a Friday afternoon - and even getting out at that time seemed a bit touch and go (despite having a tee time). Apparently a golf outing was still in progress and they were "working groups in" between the outing groups. Needless to say, this caused extraordinarily slow play and was a complete mistake on the course's part. What should have been a quick 3 hour Friday afternoon round turned into nearly a 5 hour ordeal. At one point an 8-some had to be broken up in front of us by calling a Ranger (the 8-some got back together several holes later, by the way). Again, STO is one of my favorite courses, but this was probably my least enjoyable experience there.
