The Woodlands Golf Club
About
Woodlands Golf Club, which sits only 30 minutes from St. Louis, is known for having some of the area's best greens. The putting surfaces roll true and hold well on the approach. This public course has garnered a local following thanks to not only its green conditions but also the affordable rates. With a diverse landscape and unique hole designs, it's definitely a shot-maker's layout. You'll probably use every club in your bag on this golf course. A long creek winds across the entire layout, coming into play on a few holes. There are also strategically placed bunkers that lurk along the greensides. Although Woodlands Golf Club is relatively short at just over 6,400 yards from the back tees, it feels much longer thanks to a variety of elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic.

Just like most places, weekends can get pretty busy, so expect a slower pace of play. The staff is excellent and always makes for a good experience. Definitely bring plenty of balls—for some reason, we lose more at Woodlands than any other course. Overall, for the price, it’s still a fun course to play and worth checking out. Highly recommend.
Worst ever experience at this course
9:00 tee time. They were “backed up” due to morning frost, despite the fact there was no frost in the morning. It never dropped below 40° the night before. Roll up to Hole #1 five minutes before our tee time and it’s TWELVE carts deep waiting to tee off. Why not start sending people out on Hole#10, or shotgun start?
Tee boxes were a muddy mess. It was nearly impossible to tee off between the stakes anywhere on the course.
Greens were decent; where ever there were not weeds. Heavy weed growth having a severe impact on putts.
One hole we were in chipping distance, and had to pause so that a worker could spray the green with chemicals
Won’t be going back. Too many other nicer courses in the area.
Interesting course
I have lived in St. Louis area for almost 20 years but played yhis course for the first time ( I played 50+ rounds every year). The course layout is pretty and unique. Condition is decent as a rural public course. Staff are friendly. Other players have good etiquette. I should have played here more!
Difficult Layout and Slow
Course has a lot of blind shots and 90* doglegs that make club selection and execution a requirement. Some holes are extremely narrow requiring accuracy immediately off the tee box. Greens were spotty with dead areas common. Course had a scramble that was well behind schedule and slowed play to 3 hours for 9 holes. I had a great deal on GolfNow and drove over an hour to try this course or I may have left. Plenty of options closer to home at a similar price that offer a similar experience.
Not what it was
This was a decent little course in the past. Could be again.
When I arrived to pay the kid in the pro shop was in a personal conversation. Barely acknowledged us while continuing his conversation. Firts sign of issue was the carts covered in dirt and dust the first cart we had to return because the parking brake did not work. The second was old and slow. The brake barely worked. The tee markers you could see are not moved. The boxes are rock hard. The entire course has little to no grass. The rough is either hard pan or crab grass. The fairways are hard pan with some small patches of grass. The greens were aerated by looks months ago but the dimples are still there. Huge dirt spots on the greens. No effort to maintain anything. Makes me wonder if they are closing and this is lat year.
Great course but I guess the heat zapped everything
I have played this course over 10 times. I love the layout and the friendliness of the staff. It's a great place to play. However, this is the first time I've played and the course was in really bad shape. Greens were trashed and the fairways were all mostly brown. I'm guessing the heat and lack of rain really got to the course. Overall though everything else was great as always. I just wish we would have known it's condition before we booked a tee time.
Fun Layout, Bad Management
Another round ruined by a seniors league who believe they have purchased the entire course for only themselves. Won't play here again until they get this nonsense under control.
Underwhelming
This was my first time this year playing the Woodlands. This is the worst condition. I’ve seen this course in the last five years. At $50. It is completely overpriced for the condition of the greens. At least a third of the greens are completely dead or fungus ridden! For whatever reason in the middle of the summer, they punched half of the greens. And the driving range is still not completed… Not worth your time.
Fun challenging course
Definitely tough with some tight fairways, plenty of blind shots, and elevation changes. We unfortunately got stuck in a downpour, but considering the weather the conditions were still pretty solid (when we could avoid the standing water). Staff was great and polite, and the course provided a fun challenge and good value for the money ($40 tee time on a Saturday morning is hard to find).
Hot day, good golf
I have always liked The Woodlands, the course has some fairly challenging holes. The cart paths are a bit bumpy but the fairways and greens were in good condition.
