The Woodlands Golf Club

About
Woodlands Golf Club, which sits only 30 minutes from St. Louis, is known for having some of the area's best greens. The putting surfaces roll true and hold well on the approach. This public course has garnered a local following thanks to not only its green conditions but also the affordable rates. With a diverse landscape and unique hole designs, it's definitely a shot-maker's layout. You'll probably use every club in your bag on this golf course. A long creek winds across the entire layout, coming into play on a few holes. There are also strategically placed bunkers that lurk along the greensides. Although Woodlands Golf Club is relatively short at just over 6,400 yards from the back tees, it feels much longer thanks to a variety of elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic.

Difficult Layout and Slow
Course has a lot of blind shots and 90* doglegs that make club selection and execution a requirement. Some holes are extremely narrow requiring accuracy immediately off the tee box. Greens were spotty with dead areas common. Course had a scramble that was well behind schedule and slowed play to 3 hours for 9 holes. I had a great deal on GolfNow and drove over an hour to try this course or I may have left. Plenty of options closer to home at a similar price that offer a similar experience.
Not what it was
This was a decent little course in the past. Could be again.
When I arrived to pay the kid in the pro shop was in a personal conversation. Barely acknowledged us while continuing his conversation. Firts sign of issue was the carts covered in dirt and dust the first cart we had to return because the parking brake did not work. The second was old and slow. The brake barely worked. The tee markers you could see are not moved. The boxes are rock hard. The entire course has little to no grass. The rough is either hard pan or crab grass. The fairways are hard pan with some small patches of grass. The greens were aerated by looks months ago but the dimples are still there. Huge dirt spots on the greens. No effort to maintain anything. Makes me wonder if they are closing and this is lat year.
Great course but I guess the heat zapped everything
I have played this course over 10 times. I love the layout and the friendliness of the staff. It's a great place to play. However, this is the first time I've played and the course was in really bad shape. Greens were trashed and the fairways were all mostly brown. I'm guessing the heat and lack of rain really got to the course. Overall though everything else was great as always. I just wish we would have known it's condition before we booked a tee time.
Fun Layout, Bad Management
Another round ruined by a seniors league who believe they have purchased the entire course for only themselves. Won't play here again until they get this nonsense under control.
Underwhelming
This was my first time this year playing the Woodlands. This is the worst condition. I’ve seen this course in the last five years. At $50. It is completely overpriced for the condition of the greens. At least a third of the greens are completely dead or fungus ridden! For whatever reason in the middle of the summer, they punched half of the greens. And the driving range is still not completed… Not worth your time.
Fun challenging course
Definitely tough with some tight fairways, plenty of blind shots, and elevation changes. We unfortunately got stuck in a downpour, but considering the weather the conditions were still pretty solid (when we could avoid the standing water). Staff was great and polite, and the course provided a fun challenge and good value for the money ($40 tee time on a Saturday morning is hard to find).
Hot day, good golf
I have always liked The Woodlands, the course has some fairly challenging holes. The cart paths are a bit bumpy but the fairways and greens were in good condition.
Clover Eats Balls
Greens good, fairways lean but the clover is horrible! The only way to find the ball is to walk on it! I've been playing 63 years and never lost 7 balls in my life until today!
CLOVER WILL EAT YOUR BALLS!
The greens were very nice they rolled true, fairways were a little lean a lot of hard pans. But just off the fairway the clover was absolutely ridiculous I lost seven balls I've never lost that many in my life and the only way you could find your ball is if you walked on it!!
The clover is out of control in the rough. Nearly impossible to find your ball with the white clover flower.
Not ready for the season
This course has an interesting layout so it could have the potential to be a nice golf course. There is terrain variations which can be challenging for all golf skill levels but fun for any handicap. We played in late April so rains had been heavy. The roughs were overgrown and the fairways worn in spots .
Now the bad, a threesome playing with 2 sets of clubs was one example of lacking on course management and leads to a painfully slow round of golf.( we actually left after 12 holes) . Manage the course better and this could be a real gem ( and great setting for weddings, etc...)
Not totally their fault
They are definately dealing with some damage on the back 9 due to flooding. We ended up leaving on 15 due to the fairways being mostly dirt/mud. There was no beverage cart and when we asked about brats at the turn we were told they didn't really have anything. One of our guys ended up just asking if he could get a hot dog microwaved so he was able to get that at least. A lot of courses are dealing with flood damage but should make up for it with customer service or other amenities.
