Fair test of golf but play is slow on weekends
My playing partner and I enjoyed the course and it's layout but that was tempered by 5 hour round and we did not finish 18. The obviously local groups in front of us felt no need ti allow us to play through on any of the first 17 holes. This is why golf is getting a bad rap. Play from the proper tees, play ready golf, and if you are still slow let us play through. We never saw a marshal on the course.
Needs a little attention
I play Carillon alot. I like the course, staff is always great...overall, a good value and fun to play. A couple of friendly observations:
1. This was a Sunday morning round and the areas around holes were very beat-up, like these were the same hole positions since Friday.
2. Bunkers need help, desperately! Mostly dirt on the red course, poorly maintained. On the white, some are re-done, some are over-done (big tufts of grass in middle of bunkers, for what??) Put the money into the basics. Most are not maintained.
3. Cart paths are old with washed-out sections and tree roots pushing through....extremely annoying. No apparent effort to repair them or at least fill in the large holes.
Conclusion? Still a good deal but I'd sure direct my crew to do some basic maintenance of paths and bunkers and move the hole locations every day.
They might want to tear out all of the old asphalt paths and just mulch them.
Thanks for allowing me to voice my opinion.
The Course was in good condition
The course was in good condition given the rain it took on the day before. Greens were very slow and chunky.
Nice Round
Tees/fairways were pristine. Fairways were generously wide. Some greens were a little beat up and were rolling quite slow. I hate slow greens. Sand bunkers were in average condition. Could have been better. Water comes into play occasionally, but its usually a really bad shot that finds the hazards. Its definitely worth a visit with a hot deal.
Nice track
Live in the area but had never played here. It was definately worth it. Not the hardest course but still challenging and in good shape. Greens were a bit slow but still rolled pretty good. Only draw back is that some holes have houses close to the course.
great course
This is the third time that I have played this cousw this year and everytime I enjoy it more and more. Im not a great golfer but I do enjoy the sport.
Course vs. water
Course was in good shape .Greensalso great shape considering the amount of rain we have had. Only a few spots that had some water, but not bad Golfers need to repair their divets on the greens.
Excellent Condition and great value for $
We played Red White tees and the course is in really great condition. For $29 you can't beat the value. Fairways and greens were in very good condition. My only criticism is that some of the bunkers could use some sand and the cart paths are a bit rough.
Great fun
Great course for the price. Good conditions. Staff is great and I had a coffee and breakfast sandwich that was out of this world for $7 which included potatoes which were awesome.
Carillon is great
The course was in good shape, tee boxes, fairways and greens were all in good shape. Staff is very friendly and the brats are always good. Pace of play wasn't too bad, we went out in the AM and finished in about 41/2 hours on the Red/White course.
Good times
I got to play with a friend and two new friends we met on the tee. I usually play the white tees but they play the blues. I think I'll play the blues from now on. I thought the course was well maintained and the rangers were helpful and polite. I liked the course and I can say it needs strategy and not just brute force to play well.
Windy but a Pleasure
Until the last hole, the challenge was enjoyable; but water on the left, right, and in front . . . I chose the wrong club(s). Next time I'll try to be smarter.
just ok
carillon was nothing special,
greens were pretty slow and bumpy.
the gps in the carts is a joke,
most do not work at all.
the gps technology is straight out of 1982!
9th hole on white course is silly; fairway is nearly impossible to hold with a long drive.
hole signs not accurate
enjoyed playing, greens average , not too tough, signs for the holes were misleading, you really need to play with someone familiar with the course...gps frequently not working
Last min round
I've played Carillon enough times to write this. The greens weren't in the best shape. I'm sure the bad rain had a lot to do with it, but you would think they would roll them at least. I would play there again, but I would be very reluctant to pay the impromptu morning over $50 rate.
The course
The groundspeople have done a wonderful jo keping this course in great shape. I will definitely return again. Despite it was a Sunday and bust, we moved along with great delays.
All 27 holes are in nice shape
With all the rain Carillon is in very nice shape. No cart restrictions. After playing 18 (red/white) we got in an additional 9 holes on the blue. Everything was well maintained and our two-some enjoyed the afternoon/early evening. When crowded slow play can be an issue at this track...even the Blue 9 which is in this golfers humble opinion is probably the most difficult of the nines (holes 3 and 5) as this Blue nine will take the normal hacker 3 hours plus to play.. When it's not crowded (like our afternoon) you can easily get all 27 in in well under 6 hours. Always a great value if you get a hot deal. Worth playing if you live in Chicagoland at least once a year.
carilon
Played in 3 hours with my dad. Greens were rolling great. Course was wet from all the rain but enjoyed my round. Definitely plan to go back soon.
perfect day
weather was perfect -pace of play was great-course was in great condition-will definitely go back to play the other 9 holes in combination with one of the 9 we played....
