Edmonton Garrison Memorial Golf & Curling Club
About
Edmonton Garrison Memorial Golf & Curling Club is centrally located within 15 minutes of the Edmonton Area, St. Albert, Morinville, and Cardiff. It first opened as a nine-hole course in the 1950s. Since the second nine wasn't added until 1996, there is a distinct difference between the front and back nine that makes it feel like you're getting two golf courses in one. The front, the original nine, is a more traditional parkland layout while the back is a more open links nine. You'll face a different set of challenges on each. The smaller greens on the front are indicative of the time when it was built and the size will also test your shot placement skills. In contrast, Edmonton Garrison Memorial's back nine has large and undulating greens as well as more strategically placed mounding.

NEVER PLAY AGAIN
It was very unpleasant game due to the staffs and poor course management. No one controls the starting tee time but after we completed the second hole, the staff followed behind us and watched out of our playing. There were two tee times for single players behind us. One is quick so that we gave him a pass. Another one was very slow player so that we continued playing. The problem was started in hole #3. A staff was behind us and another one waited and watched in the green area. We are not slower player but we got some pressure and we were so unhappy. The same staff followed up in every single hole and he told us that we need to give a single player to go ahead us. We told him 'No problem. We will". We waited about 8 minutes in #6 tee. We don't know how many balls the single player played, finally he showed up. No more groups were behind us and we played with regular speed. The same staff watched out again us on Tee #8 and this time we cannot tolerate any more so that we asked him "we had any problem" he said "NO", we asked again "Why did you watch out us all time?", he could not give us reasonable answer. He replied us that "he waited for fixing the green if the green is damaged after we played". We told him "in this case you come back later and fix it" do not watch in front of us all time, we want a little bit of relax in playing. He left afterward but our mind was not in the game anymore due to the unpleasant situation. We continued second 9 holes but it was not very enjoyable game. We plays most of the courses in Edmonton area and we have never seen this kind of situation and we decided not to go this course again. We saved a little bit of money playing in this cheap course but it was not worth the saving for unwanted experiences with poorly trained staffs.
Good value on GolfNow.com
The fairways should be cut a bit shorter we had trouble finding our ball if we were just off the shortcut, but not in the rough
Excellent Shape
Weather was hot but the continuous breeze made the temperature playable. Course in great shape, staff were very friendly and accommodating. Will definitely play this course again, especially if we can book online using Golfnow.com
under construction
They are undergoing course changes so there is a lot of mud and rocks. The course is poorly run. The most important things is the greens and by far EGM has the slowest greens in Edmonton. Some days they don't even cut the greens at all. Use this course as a last result
Poor course managaement
The last few rounds at this course have seen 3 and 4 groups on the same holes. I have no issue with golfers who are hitting missed shots and a bit slow but consistently see groups of 4 driving back and forth on the holes , fooling around, wrestling on the course . There is little to no restraint on over booking the course , having tee times pushed back , having 4 groups playing the same hole. Even with the reduced price it is not worth the frustration. The last round of 18 was over 7 hours from tee time and I quit after 9 the next outing.
Great Value
This course was exactly what I expected. Good facilities, decent challenge, and excellent value. They are upgrading the course so that causes some layout issues but once completed it should add a good look to the course. Quite an easy course for walking.
Shot my best round +1
Hard to access - there has been new roadways - and the GPS was not updated (my fault).
Inspite of being late they did entertain my booking
nice change in design
i liked the change from treed to classic trune style thru the 18 holes. not to difficult but enjoyable.
uncrowded today, fast pace of play, lovely day!
We felt like we owned the course. Some problems in the long rough slowed us down to start, but we played along quickly and were called to play through a twosome who were walking. Surprisingly the playing time was about 3 1/2 hours!
Great value for your money.
course is well maintained. greens are in good shape.
Edmonton Garrison Memorial Golf Course
The course was in very good shape. Some of the greens are tricky.
Friendly staff, well maintained, moderate difficulty.
Friendly and helpful staff, well maintained overall, moderate difficulty. Very good to shake out the cob webs and develop novice/intermediate skills.
Greens are very slow.
Pace of play could have been better but a thunderstorm halted play for some time before I teed off. So can't really complain too much because I only paid $13.00 with a cart for 18 holes. Greens are super slow...I don't think they have ever rolled their greens either.
What you see is what you get.
This is a very straight forward course. Not difficult, with some very short par fours. Was sometimes confusing where the next hole was. If you played it a second time it would make it less confusing. There cart paths were bumpy while driving in a cart. The greens need to be cut shorter as the speed was very slow on them. Pace of play was good because there is not much trouble that you can get into. A very good course for beginners but not very challenging for the low handicapper.
Fun Little Course
Mixture of hackers and good players, rough needed cutting ,greens were in good shape. You can loose a few balls on this course. Worth playing.
Two different courses blended into one
Greens were in very good conditon. Course has longer grass off the main fairways, adds extra challenge. The links style holes have difficult rough. Some of the older original nine holes have great character with gorgeous, huge trees lining the fairways.
Work in progress
They are making a lot of changes to the layout so there are a number of spots that are under construction. They have lengthened the rough substantially from previous years so that the difficulty has increased for wayward shots. Greens are in good shape and roll pretty true.
Good for the average golfer
This course is a flat course with no water hazards, except for a small hazard in front of #17 green, There are a number of dog-leg fairways with mature trees that make the course a little challenging. Upgrade construction is ongoing throughout the course, but doesn't adversely affect play. Greens are moderate.
Great value!
Definitely worth a trip to the North side of edmonton!
