Nursery Golf and Country Club
About
Situated north of Lacombe, Nursery Golf & Country Club is conveniently located just off of Hwy 2 between Edmonton and Calgary. It lies just east of the Canadian Rockies. The course appeals to players of all skill levels, from beginners to pros, thanks to a diverse range of holes. You'll have to contend with tricky doglegs and tree-lined fairways as well as several different water hazards, including a stream that cuts across the entire golf course. The layout crosses over the stream several times, connected by scenic wooden bridges. The tranquil setting of the golf course is ideal for a round of golf. Nursery Golf & Country Club finishes with a tough par 5. There is trouble nearly everywhere you turn on this hole with tall poplars lining the fairways and a sloped green. If you're even slightly right of the fairway you'll be punished with a blind second shot.

Excellent Place
The wife and I enjoyed this course, good layout, friendly staff and for being so early in the season the greens rolled true. Will of course be back again.
The Nursery Golf & Country Club
My mid morning appointment in Edmonton finished up early so I decided to make time for another short golf trip, this time to southern Alberta. With no real destination in mind I drove south on Highway 2. Even though Wolf Creek GC looked pretty good from the highway I drove by. Eight kilometers further down the highway I made a spur of the moment decision and took the exit to The Nursery G&CC. This golf course boasts the longest hole in Canada so it gave me an excuse to stop and have a look.
Check in was effortless and I was paired up with one of the local members.
The Nursery G&CC is an interesting track, it was a little scruffy here and there but overall in fair condition. Four large tee boxes on every hole allow you to pick your poison (choose accordingly). The elevation changes are minor and for those that are overly confident in their abilities there are several good risk/reward holes. Be wary of the numerous water hazards on the course. The surprisingly quick greens rolled well and if you weren't paying attention to the numerous breaks you could find the odd three putt. The routing makes good use of the topography and the bunkers seem to be in all the right places.
Hole 11, the longest hole in Canada reaches out to 782 yards which makes for a rare Par 6. I tried it from the tips twice and had to work to save par both times. It's long and water comes into play on both your drive and second shot. And if the length and water don't trip you up, there's OB and trees up the entire left side of the hole.
There is a small practice putting green and a driving bay for off course amenities. First time playing here and I was pleasantly surprised with the layout and the variety of holes on offer.
PS: You can't visit Lacombe and not stop by and see the worlds largest fishing lure, the legendary "5 of Diamonds" manufactured locally by the Len Thompson Co. since 1929.
