Knollwood Golf Club - New
About
There are two courses at the Knollwood Golf Club, the New and the Old. The New Course, which is adjacent to the Old, was built almost 20 years after the original. It is the trickier layout of the two. Although the scenic landscape was already dotted with trees, thousands more were planted to create a more challenging golf course and to enhance the beautiful terrain. The layout features plenty of elevation changes throughout and there are elevated tees where golfers can take in pleasant views. The architect of the New Course, Jack Harris, employed his memories of the most interesting holes he had played around the world to recreate some of them on this course.

June 23rd round
Booked tee-off time was 12:20 pm- were delayed until 1:00 p.m. - waited 15 - 20 - 30 minutes on each hole - badly backlogged - no course marshall -quit after 15th hole and five hours on course. Not impressed.
Knollwood GC - New
Very challenging rolling terrain course and well maintained. I will not recommend walking for seniors.
jake
employees very friendly especially starter course was wet in spots but was very playable had a great day
Very Wet.
With plenty of rain in the past few weeks, the course was soaking wet. literally had to walk through a soggy fairway. Three of the holes had temporary greens as original greens were under water.
I like this course, however, with conditions like these they should close the course.
Early Spring and Wet.
The course was very wet in a lot of areas due to April rain. Four holes were not being used so I had to play 5 holes twice. Yes they through in an extra hole. Played 19 holes and because of the conditions they would let me play all I wanted but because of walking in the wet conditions, I didn't. Course would get better review if conditions were good.
Considering the weather we have had up until now, the course wasn’t as wet as we thought it might be. The greens were definitely still in prep mode, grateful to have opportunity to golf this early and at the great price. We enjoy this course during summer also..
Don’t waste your time
I know it was early in the year but I have never seen worse green. The areated holes were huge. Won’t be ready until July to repair these greens. Really weird green designs. Don’t waste your time at any price. Not to mention no bunkers.
Be aware- temporary greens....
No advisory posted:
There were temporary greens on the course- should have posted online.
Pace of play was slow.....
No marshals on the course-
They need to speed up pace of play.
Disappointing......
Disappointed!
Knollwood New Golf Course was not prepared for business on a beautiful Oct. day when the course was full of golfers.
There was no marshal so our two some had to wait on most holes for a foursome in front of us.
There was no hot food in the restaurant, we had to pay for our snacks and beverage purchases in the pro shop. There were three temporary greens that shortened the course by about 250 yds.
Therefore, a most disappointing outing.
The good, the bad the ugly
Pros:
- outiside of 4-5 holes the course was in great shape and worth the green fee
- I was able to let a few morning groups go by and play the round by myself
- back nine green and fairways were in great shape
- fun course that is great for all skill levels (outside of a few holes)
- staff was great
Cons:
- there were 4 greens, 4 fairways and 5 tee decks that I wouldn’t pay $10 to play
- 3 holes had completely brown muddy greens, might be the worst I’ve ever seen a green look
- A few holes are almost gimmicky with very poor design, hole 3 being the prime culprit
- if they can improve the condition of a few holes on the front nine and fix the glaring design issue on hole 3 I would give this course a 4/5
- the first 4 groups of the day were playing extremely quick, I was basically advised to let them pass through then start playing. For reference I finished the round in 3 hours while walking but that wasn’t even close to the pace of the first 4 groups
Really enjoyed your course.
Not super long but challenging just the same. Conditions were great considering time of year. Pace was off a little off due to club function. I will return even though it is nit close to home.... thank you.
Potential
This course has the potential to be a little gem in Ancaster but it’s not there. First there should have been a discount as the greens has been recently sanded. Some greens had almost no grass at all. It was ridiculous really. Tee blocks hadn’t been cut in what appeared to be days. Some had been overtaken by crab grass. Fairways were also long and had patches without grass. This course could be a challenging track but It needs a lot of TLC. At $60 per person with a cart it’s way overpriced. I would rather pay a little more and head down to any of the Niagara Parks Commission courses. Friendly staff however!
Save your money
Course layout is fantastic. This place could be so much nicer. The staff are friendly and get you out on the course quickly. The reason I give this place a poor rating is the grounds crew must not know what they are doing. The green are cut too short and all the sand is exposed. We played after 5 straight days of dry sunshine and somehow the course was flooded. Puddles and mud everywhere. Turn your sprinklers off. For the same price or less I can play Hidden Lake, Indian Wells, Dragons Fire. This course looks like a municipal course...No thanks
up the middle
had a hard round with the return of my slice.
enjoyed the day despite my plus 100 round and many balls lost in there right side woods and fescue. Many dogleg holes both directions. very few holes where flag was visible from the tee.
We were stacked up most of the day with golfers worse than me a couple of groups ahead of us.
Back to the driving range.
