Knollwood Golf Club - New
About
There are two courses at the Knollwood Golf Club, the New and the Old. The New Course, which is adjacent to the Old, was built almost 20 years after the original. It is the trickier layout of the two. Although the scenic landscape was already dotted with trees, thousands more were planted to create a more challenging golf course and to enhance the beautiful terrain. The layout features plenty of elevation changes throughout and there are elevated tees where golfers can take in pleasant views. The architect of the New Course, Jack Harris, employed his memories of the most interesting holes he had played around the world to recreate some of them on this course.

Nice rolling terrain
The counter-clerk was very nice and using the Golf Now reservation was seamless. But, the marshal was a grumpy fellow who was very concerned that we wouldn't be too late finishing our twilight round - he actually turned the sprinklers on while we were still on the 18th and there was still 20 minutes of light left in the day.
Winter damage
The coarse was very disappointing. Lots of bare patches on many greens and fairways. Many fairways are still very wet and mushy. Other coarses in the area are in much better shape.
Probably won't go back
It's not that I feel ripped off or anything, but this course just lacks much in the way of conditioning.
Fairways are lacking grass in many areas, there are several 'dummy' holes (in my opinion),
Example: The short par 4 ,6th hole - I left my t-shot in the MIDDLE of the fairway wih 80 yards to the centre of green, and I have a 60+ foot tree to go over directly between me and the pin.
The 3rd hole is another example of a hole that if you're not exactly in the middle of the fairway, you are laying up due to the need to practically thread a needle to get to the green.
The greens were too slow for my liking, and the overall conditions were just not great.
Having said that.....I paid $40 including cart, so it was definitely a fair value for the $, but there are just too many other courses at a not to different rate that are much more favourable.
** Note: I absolutely LOVE the old barn converted into the proshop/restaurant!
soggy mess
Although I have played this course before with favourable results, it has major problems with water drainage. It was squishy underfoot almost everywhere & even though we were told it was "cart path only" there were no cart paths for the majority of the course. Also it wasn't easy to follow the layout to the next hole because of lack of signs. I'm looking for a reasonably priced course to join next year & have just ruled out this course.
Not worth the money
Bad greens don't take care of coarse yardage is off can go on on way over priced 10 bucks more golf really good coarse
The greens are not very good
The fairways are not bad but the greens are not very good, they are very inconsistent. This could be a very nice coarse if the could get the greens in better shape.
Dress warm & play!
Fall golf can be challenging and finding your ball in leaves is all part of it. Overall, a great day until rain arrived!
lots of water on the course. Too wet. Too many leaves, not blown away.
This time of year, most courses are probably a little rough. L.
Interesting and varied layout with good value
Holes vary from left to right, right to left, narrow to open fairways. Fairways and rough are well defined and the rough is not too penal.
The New Course, in my opinion, is just as good as the Old Course, but longer. It was also in excellent condition, especially for the time of year.
I played and enjoyed the Old Course at Knollwood. While short it was challenging. The New Course, in my opinion, is just as good as the Old Course, but longer. From the back tees you get over 6000 yards which makes the need for 14 clubs in your bags more necessary. It being October I tend to expect the condition of the course to be somewhat lax but it was in excellent condition for any time of the year. Undulated, doglegged, gaurded greens, some significant water and a couple of tight tee shots allowed me to really wish I was playing better on that day!
wet but playable
a challenging course for all skill levels.. well maintained even though very wet conditions..
course is less than good
The course has drainage issues every part of the course is muddy. There are little ball washers around so bring a towel. The scenery is nice. Full with mature trees. Club house is OK. No service at snack bar and little in the way of beverages. The greens are the worst that I have played all year. Littered with leaves and ball marks. Don't plan on any one putts unless your ball is beside the pin. With some serious attention the course would be good and challenging.
Well maintained. Too many blind shots.
This day started with a rude incident, where the
Gentleman in the pro shop, after asking if I needed the copy of the
Confirmation sheet, roughly crumpled it immediately.
We were not treated as customers but as intruders.
Nice course, some maintenance is needed
Lots of potential but overall course condition is a little lacking.
Tee boxes were in very poor condition and very uneven.
Some Trees overhang the Tee boxes and are much to low and are in the way of a tee shot.
some damage to the course fairways is to be expected as we have had recent high rain, but some of the greens were not maintained and had noticeable damage.
Lots of potential, time and money is needed to address some small issues
Good Track for a quick tune up in between the more challenging courses.
Enjoyed playing the course. Great for a tune up round. Easier compared to Twenty Valley or Tyandaga. Has some tricky little holes that brings out some strategy and different clubs selection than used on the bigger more forgiving courses. More attention to tee shots as course is narrow. Some good dog legs to work on the draw and fade. Par 4's from the blues a good challenge to get a Birdie. Greens need a little attention but understandable as they would not get much sun light as fall approaches. Reasonable price to value at $45.00. Look forward to playing the Old course next. Only complaint in my two visits, was that I felt the women in the Pro Shop to be dismissive. The rest of the staff on average cordial.
Mik.
course is in great shape for this time of year
my wife loves to play here still a challange for her and myself
Rolling fairways
the course was beatiful. I just keep thinking of these awesome rolling fairways and I can 't wait to go back. oh and the water features were gorgeous, there was a few times I wish I had my camera.
There are better courses for the same money spent
Fairways are in great shape and the course looks inviting. The greens are in the worse condition of all the courses that I've played this summer. Also, more attention needs to be focused on pin placements. On some holes it felt like I was playing on a miniature golf fun house!
Knollwood new course overpriced
The course is overpriced. Not worth the fees charged. Many better courses in the area for less money.
Enjoyable. Top Class Golf Course
Tried the old course, and it was enjoyable, but the course was a bit short so we had to try the new course when a deal was offered on golfnow.
To our surprise this course is fantastic. Just enough challenging to keep you on your toes and make sure you course manage your shots, but simplistic enough for you to enjoy a few beers and take it casually with a few friends.
Highly recommended for anyone in the area and from afar. You won't be disappointed. Top class course!
