Knollwood Golf Club - New
About
There are two courses at the Knollwood Golf Club, the New and the Old. The New Course, which is adjacent to the Old, was built almost 20 years after the original. It is the trickier layout of the two. Although the scenic landscape was already dotted with trees, thousands more were planted to create a more challenging golf course and to enhance the beautiful terrain. The layout features plenty of elevation changes throughout and there are elevated tees where golfers can take in pleasant views. The architect of the New Course, Jack Harris, employed his memories of the most interesting holes he had played around the world to recreate some of them on this course.

In spite of lots of rain this course is not maintained well.
In spite of lots of rain this course is not maintained well. You lose balls in the fairway due to poor conditions. the greens are so hard that balls bounce off them. I am told their "Old Course" is even worse than the "New".
Narrow, challenging, but lots of fun!
The new course was quite tough, but manageable if the player has played it before. Would love to go back soon. Probably will.
Fabulous wide fairways with lots of mature trees!
We like this course for many reasons......close to home.....wide fairways with lots of elevation changes.....just enough water....price is OK.....staff are friendly.
We don't like this course for only two reasons......not a single sand trap......golf carts have no windshields or bag protectors for windy, cold and rainy weather. They really need to invest in better golf carts to attract more players in the poorer conditions. We won't go back unless the day is sunny and warm.
One and done
I found this to be an odd golf course. I have never seen one quite like it.
The par fours were either between 300 and 340 yards, or over 400 yards, none in between. There were too many blind tee-shots. In some of them you could not tell, from the tee box, which way the holes were going. There were no sketches/maps of the holes on the tee boxes or the score card.
Some holes were too wide open, and some were unfairly tight. Most of the greens were patchy, bumpy, and in dire need of maintenance. It was impossible to read putts. Some of the tee-off areas looked almost abandoned.
On the positive side, it's a nice property with great potential. Some of the fairways were very green and well kept. The rough was equally well kept. There were a couple of very nice holes, the par three 9th comes to mind. It only took us about three hours to play.........there were few people on the course.
In my opinion, the greens and the overall layout are the two most important features of a course. This one failed on both.
Good Value
Got a really good value for 2 people and a cart. The fairways and course was in excellent condition the only issue was the greens. Close to half of the greens were not in very good shape while the others were in very good shpae which makes for a very inconsistent experience on the putting surface.
Super friendly staff
Fairways in great condition Greens in great condition Staff all super friendly The pace of the game remained very fluent Washrooms and dining room clean and well maintained Overall would definitely recommend to a friend and will definitely golf there again
Fun game
I have played the front nine of the new course a dozen times. The front nine is challenging with narrow paths covered with trees towards the green and some big dog legs. The back nine is more forgiving. Can't recall seeing any sand traps at all but the water on the course is always in play. Overall I enjoy this course very much.
Course is becoming tired.
I use to golf here several years ago. Back then the course and greens were in great shape. Today, the greens need a lot of work as they are hard as rock with many dirt and dead grass spots; tee boxes have either no or little grass to hit from and are hard as concrete; fairways are green but very hard. I would not want to play this course in the summer after playing it yesterday and given the rain we hard last week, I would have expected a much better course. I was disappointed in the course condition.
very enjoyable day
knollwood turned out to be a pleasant surprise. my wife and I played in chilly conditions but the enjoyment of the course soon made me forget about the weather.the course makes you think, and rewards risk.overall, a course I will try to get back to
Okay for second choice
Some greens need work to bring up to standard. Staff was friendly and courteoud.
New course
Payed $27 with cart and played from the tips at 6160 yards. Very enjoyable and challenging round completed in less than 4 hours. Course in pretty good shape with only a couple minor issues but for $27 who can complain. We enjoyed it so much we played it again the following day.
Has potential, decent value, but a number of glaring flaws
Teed off early-mid morning. Problems were numerous - the ground was incredibly hard and very difficult to put in a tee into the ground. Fairway was like astroturf.
Course layout was downright dangerous - tee boxes were way too close to the previous green, unprotected, and often, directly in the line of aim, such that any slightly overshot approach shot would end up almost hitting the next party.
There were no hole layouts provided, either on the card or on the tee blocks, such that you had very little idea where to shoot from a half dozen tees. There would be a crest ahead with a dropoff, and you would have no idea where to aim - is it a dog leg? Is there water? You have to guess and pray.
Finally - the piece de resistance - on the final hole, the maintainers of the course decided that they needed to hose down the green while we were playing. As they saw us approach the green, they didn't stop doing what they were doing. They didn't move aside so we could finish the hole. We had to literally shoot around them. Aside from making this a worrisome shot, it put them (and us) at risk, and was completely inappropriate.
Overall, it was a nice day, however, I cannot give this course more than a 3. It could so easily be a 4, that it's frustrating.
Nice course for first time out this year and to try some new clubs. We got lost a few times as there was not course map on the score card directional
Nice course for first time out this year and to try some new clubs. We got lost a few times as there was no course map on the score card or directional signs on the course or Marshall's to ask
Not great.
We played the Old course on May 18,2013 and to say the conditions were poor is accurate. Greens and tees were in terrible shape, old holes were poorly repaired, the overall condition of most greens was bumpy and really horrible to putt on. Tees were a mess for the most part, fairways were ok but the cut grass left in the rough was a mess. This course needs watering badly, and a Buffalo blower used in the rough would help improve the appearance of the course. We play the New course 3-4 times per year, the difference in conditions from Old to New are significant, stay away from the Old course, simply not worth the money to play there.
Fun play. No hole is the same. Will play again.
Only issue is lack of signage for hole layout. Lots of blind shots, hidden dog legs. Signs would help holders know what they're hitting to.
Good course few things would make it great
Nice course with well kept greens. The few things laying were signage little to none made very difficult to determine were the pin was on a few holes resulting in walking up to see were it was. Second was the rough was very long and thick to the point we're you could not find your balls just off the fairway. Other than nice challenging course.
hmmmmm......
first round of the year...so it was okay for loosening up...not a bad layout, but greens were brownish and not very receptive. All this course needs is lots of water
Have watched the decline of this course over the past few years
The club house is nice, the price of a Hotdog not so nice! The course is sadly in need of some TLC even for being early in the season the greens where fuzzy, bumpy and slow! The course can be demanding as it is narrow in spots. Good size portion of #1 fair way is under repair, also found other spots that should be tended too as well. Bare Spots on the Greens! Some on guys no need for that this early in the season! Even the parking lot is in need of repair...I and my golf bud's will never pay full price for this course!
This course has some great features
There isn't a practice range nor a driving net for warm up. Small practice green. There's a 20 foot wide area of ground under repair that goes across the entire first hole directly in the landing area.
Course knowledge is key as there are hidden doglegs and blind landing areas.
Decent course overall.
